Thanks for the videos, I am enjoying the series on the mini ex cat. I would love to see more on the overheating issue and on on properly setting the mechanical fuel injection timing.
I will be sure to do more on the overheating issue when we work on it harder, I strongly suspect neglect is the cause of the overheating and a radiator flush with cleaner and fresh fluid will do a world of good. I have a friend with a similar perkins(it might say cat but it is a perkins) engine who is dealing with some injector timing issues so I will try to film that for an episode in the future. Thanks for the reply and I'm always looking for feedback of what my viewers want to see.
I am curious to know what temp your machine operates at in the summer time? I also have the same machine. It seems to run warmer than I would like it to during 90 degree weather.
This one runs hot as well, my buddy ended up taking off the fiberglass louvre panels on the sides and that helped a lot. There's some sort of fan upgrade cat sells and I think a regular coolant flush and regularly cleaning the radiator would go a long ways as well.
@@wirestiresandfires214 I have cut the left panels with slots and installed an electric fan forcing hot air out of the engine bay. This did help some. Radiator has been cleaned at radiator shop. Water pump and fan replaced. I worked for Cat several years but didn't know if most owners had cooling system trouble or not. IMHO....with a capacity of only one point two gallons .....it just doesn't seem to be enough.
@@MechanicMax From my experience(which is somewhat limited) It does seem like the mini excavators have barely enough cooling system, regardless of who makes them. I know they need good protection, but at least in the 302.5 I just can't see how there's supposed to be any appreciable air flow as they come from the factory.
@@wirestiresandfires214 I agree. I have wrapped entire exhaust system with heat wrap in an attempt to lower engine bay temperature and noticed no difference at all. I wanted to install a larger radiator but based on a quoted price from radiator shop of about $1000.00 I have held off. However, I do feel that lowering engine bay temps, and installing a larger capacity radiator would resolve situation.

How can I get a pdf of timing I’m trying to help a friend he changed the injector pump and now the machine won’t turn on
