Use the "adhesion spray" Aaron mentioned in the beginning of the video. It's not spray glue to make the wrap sticky, it acts as a lubricant that temporarily makes the underside slippery until squeegeed. Try it and I guarantee you'll be surprised at the ease and outcome.

The correct term is called application fluid. and can be made with water and some dawn in a spray bottle.

I have done a lot of vehicle lettering during my years at the sign shop. I have done partial wraps and dealt with difficult body lines. I have never done a full wrap before. Watching somebody who is good at what they do always make something look easy. The only way to truely be good at it is practice.

I have wrapped an RC model aircraft before with vinyl and found the best way to apply it was by using soapy water in a squeezy spray bottle and spraying it over the surface I laid the vinyl on. The soapy water allows you to move the vinyl around and when you use the scraper it squeezes all the water out and then when it dries the glue sticks to the surface. It makes it so much easier to work with plus using heat and stretching it around corners and curves is much better than trying to squeeze it around because it helps stop the creasing.

The talk you had midway in the video with us and each other was great! I body worked them first to got rid of all the little dents, dings, and chips. Anything you would see in a final paint, you will see in wrap.
Make sure you wash the car really good, air dry, I also blew out all the crevasses that would hold water, and parked it inside for a couple of days. Also, I used a lot of tack cloth, tacked each panel to get rid of all the fine dust, may not hurt to get a static gun and use it on the whole car. Since you have long hair, I would put it in a ponytail where its not so apt to lose hair while you work. This was an issue for my first attempt, got a couple of beard hairs under the wrap.
Dont touch the wrap adhesive anywhere its going to touch a panel, I think thats a lot of the problems you had with the hood.
Not a pro, only wrapped a couple of cars, but thats what I did for prep and they turned out pretty good.

Story time! My neighbor (who we no longer are cordial with, unrelated to this) and I used to hang out wrenching nights and weekends on all our vehicles as he had an enormous garage, had been a mechanic and shop foreman for 25+ years and had at least $200k worth of tools. He had a ridiculous amount of knowledge, but at the same time was a total hack and bullcrap artist, because in his mind him having previously actually done something before or worked on a particular vehicle/motor/etc was directly comparable to him having watched a TH-cam video, seen someone else do it or spoke to someone about the process in passing, so he had a habit of always saying he could or knew exactly how to do or fix something, and that extended to everything, home improvement, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, I feel like most of us know someone who is sort of like this, although this guy was the most extreme version about everything.
Anyway, my niece was given a 90's car 8 or 9 years, ran and drove well but the paint was horrible, she came to me and asked if I'd help spray paint it because she was so embarrassed to drive around in it. My neighbor had professional auto painting sprayers and a large air compressor so I figured I'd ask if he minded letting me quickly wetsand the car and throw a coat of cheap paint and clearcoat on it, but he said "we can just wrap it for less money, no sanding required and it'll look better than any spray we could put on it here". He said he knew how to do it and we could do it together in a few hours. Nearly $1000 in vinyl, wasting a ton learning that you still need to prep the surface, especially if the existing paint is a wreck everything shows through, and we let her choose white wrap making it worse. Took hours to pull all the trim and mirrors of, tried a clay bar first, then ended up having to sand and then wet sand the whole car, about 20 hours of work, and then another 20 hours and 3 times the vinyl wasted trying to figure out how to get it on there smoothly without bubbles. What was supposed to be "a few hours and a couple hundred bucks in vinyl wrap" turned into three weeks worth of nights and weekends (with me having to loan one of my cars to her) , closer to $1400 in materials and it looked "decent" in the end, good enough from a distance where she would no longer be embarrassed, but up close was not great.
I'll never wrap another vehicle myself, and, I'll make it a point to argue with anyone who thinks wrapping a car correctly is that much less work and money than a budget paint job. Wraps are cool because they aren't permanent, give you access to cool colors and designs, and help protect the underlying finish, but they are not a shortcut for fixing surface issues and should be left to professionals unless you have the time and patience to learn how to do it right.

It let the vinyl float and slide until you squeegee it. Sounds like there are other products for that, and maybe not all vinyl can be done that way, but I think it would make a huge difference.

Once you heat and stretch and apply force, the solvent dries and it’s left with a beautiful finish. We had three people, 2 to spread and one to finish. A little at a time! Good luck!

Never seen anyone do a DIY whole car wrap before. From this side of the lens it does look pretty good. Just a wondering thought but if you have to sand it to perfection like you would for a paint job why didn't you just do the sanding and body work then paint it. But I understand learning something new is always a good thing. Love the color. I bought a blow up paint booth from amazon, will see how that works this summer.

You have one of the most watchable and relatable channels on TH-cam IMHO, you're not afraid to put your mistakes & screwups out there for public consumption which is such a refreshing change. I've been toying with the idea of wrapping my MGB for a while & the channels I've watched so far tend to gloss over the reality of how difficult it is. So, keep doing what you do, it's entertaining & informative & sometimes hilarious. The look on Emily's face at 4:48, followed by the deadpanned line, "my measurements were poor" had me laughing out loud, you guys are the best, keep doing what you do.

That is what I struggle with getting my project car finished. I worry about making it perfect when like they say on Roadkill "It doesn't have to be perfect it just has to drive".

Very informative video thanks. The shade of green I see looks great, I was debating this colour as a wrap for my yellow Lotus seven replica kitcar nose cone, but the shape seemed to complicated so I sprayed it. I think I made the right decision.

I can really appreciate you guys taking on challenging projects! Having the nerve to do it camera really adds a special touch. Like someone else said, my first thought after watching you guys start on the hood was to use some Dawn and water in a good spray bottle. That's how I always do large vinyl decals and have always had good results. Can't wait to see the next video. That Corvett is going to look awesome! Remember this, it's like painting a room in your house. You'll see all the imperfections, but if someone else tries to find them you usually have to point them out for the person to see them. Your Corvett will probably be the same way!

Nothing but respect for you both. My wife and I did some wrapping on my previous race car. We did it but never again! One thing I would say is the quality of the vinyl makes a big difference. We switched to a premium air-release wrap after failing with the cheaper stuff we started with. It was night and day easier to get smooth but we still struggled with stretching around compound curves. I can't say I've ever seem vinyl with film on both sides like you have there.

I love you guys and your transparency. We have a few projects we have thought about vynyl.. wife's 54 kaiser bumpers are way too much for us to afford rechrome and thinking of trying vynyl. We are gonna watch this a few more times and maybe buy some Christmas chrome vynyl
