My worst book of 2020: The Cursed Child. I reread it thinking it couldn’t be as bad as I remembered. I was right. It was SO much worse. Why does that book exist? 😭😭😭
@@jessethereader My absolute favourite was The Madness of Crowds by Douglas Murray, because it was eery how the whole BLM thing happened EXACTLY at the same time as I was reading the chapter on race and how Murray had warned us about such an eruption happening.

I completely understand where you’re coming from with Bridge of Clay. It was a very confusing read, but I found myself intrigued by the characters so I think that’s what kept me going through slow points in the plot. Luckily, near the end I had an epiphany about the story and it suddenly just clicked with me. I totally understand how it’s confusing though because I was confused for a good half of it 😂😂

Every time this year that you’ve talked about not liking Sisters Grimm I’ve freaked out for a second because that was the name of a series I was obsessed with in middle school- and then I realize it’s a totally different book lol. Also I felt the exact same way as Bridge of Clay! I was so excited for it 😩

I loved Bridge of Clay honestly but I 100% understand all your points and agree with a lot actually lol. I also sobbed, but for me I loved the strangeness of it all and the character exploration, I think it was beautiful but definitely a challenge to understand. Loved the video 💕

bruh its a Markus Zusak's BOOK!! its ofc gonna be hella hard to grab xD, it was same for me for the book thief i had to read it like 2 times to grab onto the plot mostly BUTT the emotions were right in the FEELS~! and yeah his plots are soo hard to explain~!!
I am the Messenger is my favorite book by him (and of all time)! It's about a cab driver who accidentally stops a bank robbery and then starts getting playing cards in the mail with addresses on them. He has to figure out 1. what to do with the addresses 2. who is sending them and 3. why are they being sent to him. The narrator is a really funny character and his best friend is a big stinky dog named The Doorman who only drinks coffee. I highly recommend it!
I liked this video a lot! Simple, but entertaining! Btw, I'm rereading Throne of Glass series and I hope that you'll do Kingdom of Ash review once you read it, it would be amazing to hear your thoughts on it:)

What if you took a book with a fantasy genre and using the story and characters flipped it into a contemporary! I think that would be so funny and you would do it well. You could swap horror with love story, fairytale retelling with mystery, or even adult book with children’s book!

Bridge of Clay is in my top 5 favorite books of all time, but I respect that you didn't enjoy it. I recommend I Am the Messenger by Zusak if you like his writing. It's my favorite from him, and it's something that stuck with me. It's short, too!

2020 was a horrible reading year for me, I only read like 5 books I think, because I read hunger games and blood of Olympus in a day ( different days ) and was in a reading slump the rest of the year

How Jesse felt about "Every you, every me" was excactly how I felt about this book "Varjonyrkkeilijä" (Shadowboxer). The only charecter trate the main charecter had was "victim" (The only charecter given any personality was a boxing coach, who on their freetime sexually assaulted girls he was paid to train. So that should out some things into a perspective). I also could not put the friken book down, despite is being the worst book I've read last year, but that was because The writing style of the author Inga Magga, was SO beautiful. Everyone Ive talked to about this book, has loved it, and I have no-idea why.

I had a lot of books I rated 3 stara last year but the one that dissapointed me the most was Blood Promise by Richelle Mead, the 4th book in the Vampire Academy series. The 3rd book ended on a cliffhanger and I was expecting the next book to pick up with action but it didn't and all the events were too drawn out. However, the 5th book redeemed itself and I still need to read the last book.
bridge of clay was my first markus zusak book and while the plot also did not work for me, i immediately fell in love with his writing style. even though i didn’t really care about what was happening, his writing style somehow still managed to keep me invested and on the edge of me seat. it was a very weird experience lol. but, because i really vibed with his writing, i tried the book thief and ended up LOVING it. so i guess the issue with it for me was the plot as well, and i’m definitely going to try some of his other books!
I still look forward reading Every You, Every Me. I have been wanting to read it since I was in college. If you read Will Grayson, Will Grayson the chapters that he wrote were in small letters (as in all are in small letters). If the narrative doesn't resonate a reader (example: feels lost), then it can contribute to a painful reading experience.
Worst book I read this year: A Darkling Plain by Philip Reeve. That's all I'm gonna say, because if I say anymore, my rant will be longer than that Markus Zusak book Jesse didn't like.
I understand and completely agree with all your thoughts on Bridge of Clay. I almost dnfed it because 100 pages in I was telling myself and everyone around me about how it made no sense. I kept going though, and while I didn't love his writing in it, I ended up liking the book for the most part. It's downsides are certainly the things you mentioned but in the end, the weirdness and the characters backstories made it an enjoyable read for me. Definitely could have been shorter though!
Your video’s always bring me so much happiness. Yes even when you are hating on books 😂 One book that I absolutely hated last year was ‘once upon a dream’ from the Disney twisted tale collection. The pacing was way to slow, I was kinda bored.🙄

I REALLY wanted to love Bridge of Clay as much as I loved The Book Thief, but I need to reread Bridge of Clay because I barely remember anything from it! I guess the themes didn’t land perfectly for me. I do remember liking the parents’ backstory the most though.
OH GOD FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T LIKE BRIDGE OF CLAY. I did a whole rant video a few years ago and UGH IT WAS SO.. WHAT EVEN HAPPENED??? Typically I like the weird, nonsensical types but this read like a bunch of random words thrown together. I genuinely felt like I was reading a language I only briefly knew??
I had a similar BLAH reading year! Comfort rereads all the way!! But the ones i borderline hated/was irritated by were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Song of Achilles had SUPER depressing endings, and i didn't like The Wicked Fox because again it seemed like nothing but tragedy for no reason? What I Like About You was trying so hard to be super current that it felt forced and yes, it is a YA book but yes i am an adult in my 20s reading it and the main girl kept making such a big deal about how YA books are ONLY for teenagers and that adults needed to stay away from their books like um NO??? That's not how books work! So many classic "children's books" are also in the adult section. It really hit a nerve with me! So many other books for me were also just MEH but these are the only ones that made me angry lol.

Your video’s always bring me so much happiness. Yes even when you are hating on books 😂 One book that I absolutely hated last year was ‘once upon a dream’ from the Disney twisted tale collection. The pacing was way to slow, I was kinda bored.🙄
Worst book: Wonder Woman war bringer... does anyone else agree? I feel like everyone loved it but all the characters were the same and there was very little action and a ton of fluff
My sister read that. I was reading Six of Crows at the same time and I was so excited to see that we were reading the same author. I really liked SOC but I'm probs gonna give Warbringer a pass
@@luthientinuviel3883 yeah I just finished Six of Crows and loved it- honestly I think Leigh Bardugo just wasn’t as passionate about Wonder Woman because she was probably asked to write it by DC and it wasn’t her own idea

I REALLY wanted to love Bridge of Clay as much as I loved The Book Thief, but I need to reread Bridge of Clay because I barely remember anything from it! I guess the themes didn’t land perfectly for me. I do remember liking the parents’ backstory the most though.
I wanted to read Bridge of Clay because you know...The book thief. I would say Zusak’s books are very charcter focused

OH GOD FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE DIDN'T LIKE BRIDGE OF CLAY. I did a whole rant video a few years ago and UGH IT WAS SO.. WHAT EVEN HAPPENED??? Typically I like the weird, nonsensical types but this read like a bunch of random words thrown together. I genuinely felt like I was reading a language I only briefly knew??
I had a similar BLAH reading year! Comfort rereads all the way!! But the ones i borderline hated/was irritated by were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and The Song of Achilles had SUPER depressing endings, and i didn't like The Wicked Fox because again it seemed like nothing but tragedy for no reason? What I Like About You was trying so hard to be super current that it felt forced and yes, it is a YA book but yes i am an adult in my 20s reading it and the main girl kept making such a big deal about how YA books are ONLY for teenagers and that adults needed to stay away from their books like um NO??? That's not how books work! So many classic "children's books" are also in the adult section. It really hit a nerve with me! So many other books for me were also just MEH but these are the only ones that made me angry lol.
