      Exactly and why I am possibly over planning this trip. Australia is a different animal to the US. They seriously have wild emus and camels I have to watch out for. 😳

    When crossing the nullarbor, specially solo, make sure you're carrying plenty of water and top it up every chance you get for sure and don't ignore the "last fuel for xxxx Km" signs :)

    • @MotoByChance
      @MotoByChance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have learned that lesson already. Riding north, you stop for fuel, water, and facilities every chance you get because it may be further than you think to the next stop.
      I’m looking forward to what this trip will offer.

    Wish I could do similar but in reverse, but sadly the authorities found is necessary to ban me from being a road user for 6 months after one bad day at the “office”!

      Ouch! That just makes my heart hurt. No riding for 6 months? I just about go a little crazy at about 4 weeks! Hope you are back on the rood soon.

      @@MotoByChance good thing is I got a big backyard. Still not the same as the open road.
      But such is life, can’t fight the authorities, just utter my despise to anyone willing to listen and perhaps remove these authorities of injustices. But sadly the great majority are just peaceful slaves.
      There are apparently far more slaves today than there were a 100 years ago, and worse off all they are voluntarily so. Boils my blood. But enough of my whining. Might just get one of those electric push bikes to entertain me.

    I've done that ride (there and back) solo, so I can attest it is an epic trip. Unforgettable and life-changing. You'll do great. I have a million suggestions, but most you'll work out for yourself I'm sure. In terms of preparing for your general route, a couple of things that you might not think of:
    1. Remember that Sydney has several toll roads, which use tags. But for temporary visitors, you need to set up an account online before you go. There are big fines and other BS if you go though the toll gates without paying (and there are no cash booths any more, I think, in most places).
    2. On your southern loop down through southern NSW and Victoria (great trip BTW) along the coast, you will need to either go through Melbourne city, or avoid it by crossing the mouth of massive Port Philip bay on a car ferry between Sorento and Queenscliff. I recommend the latter (unless you have a particular need to go into Melbourne), as going east-west around the bay through Melbourne is time-consuming and (imo) painful :) In contrast, riding out to the end of the gorgeous Mornington peninsula, crossing the bay on the ferry at Sorrento, and landing at Queenscliff/Geelong is a lovely trip. Great places to stay/camp etc out there too...

      Thank you for the insight! I was unaware of both and this was very helpful. Need to make some notes now. 🤔

    You will have a wonderful time. My husband and I spent 5 weeks in Australia in 2011. The people are wonderful. We were in a rental van instead on bikes. we traveled the east coast from Ballarat to Port Douglas. I highly recommend, if you have the time and are going through there, visiting Sovereign Hill in the Ballarat area. It is a wonderful place. Sovereign Hill, the great barrier reef and the Daintree, were the highlights of our trip for me. I am sure the local people will give you all the help you need. Have a wonderful time, we sure did. Side note. If you haven't tried a Magnum ice cream bar there do so. they are so much better than what they sell in the states. I won't eat the ones here.

    • @MotoByChance
      @MotoByChance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like a fantastic trip! As for Sovereign Hill. Not sure if I am going that way or along the coast, still refining my route in that area, but it looks incredible! May have to make that happen.
      For me, it’s the quality of the Asian food here. Sooo much better than in the US

    I did the trip in the seventies and I'd guess the roads have changed, god I hope they've changed. There's a roadhouse halfway across the Nullabor which was fun when I was there. South Australia was nice but I didn't really stop to check anything out, the idea was to get to the Black Duck rally and back in the shortest possible time. If you are going to use back roads to cut out the city traffic especially in Western NSW then remember don't travel at night on country roads as wildlife is active dawn to dusk and roos can be active during the day. Walcha in August will be cold so be prepared. Also the bit of road from Bendemeer to Wacha is quite twisty, mind you it's been 40 yrs since I was along that road. It's only about 5 hours to my place from Walcha heading north.

      Have heard that the ‘highways’ in the Nullarbor region are still ‘rough’ in places. I’ll find out soon and share.
      Not planning to completely avoid the larger cities. I want to see the opera house in Sydney. That is like a MUST if you are there. It’s low seeing the Statue of Liberty or the Hollywood sigh. Ya know?
      It will be interesting to hear from you how much has changed.

    Awesome your going across Australia on your bike 🏍️. Yep Perth to Sydney is a seriously long way especially the stretch from Perth to SA but should be fun. Tip - Watch out for locusts going across the Nullarbor which sometimes happens. Eg: If you see big clouds of dust coming towards you, pull down your visor as it can be a serious locust storm. Youll luv Sydney if you haven't been there before. Its my favourite city. If you get time there, go on a ferry from Circular key to Manly around the Opera house. Great Harbour views.
    The Great Ocearn road ride down the bottom of Victoria is an excellent ride. Youll luv it. Have fun on your roadtrip. Look forward to your adventure. Btw Cool new Shoei helmet 🪖👍

    I have done coast to coast 5 times on a bike and it is great, especially the Nullarbor. Don’t drive at dawn / dusk due to the animals and watch out for wind gusts from oncoming road trains. Roadhouse every 200km wilts ok accommodation. Dont forget Indian / Pacific Ocean photos. Looking forward to ride vlogs

    • @MotoByChance
      @MotoByChance  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t care to ride at dawn or dusk anywhere, but across the Nullarbor even more so. Cannot wait for the experience. I don’t thing I will ever forget this trip.

    I’ve ridden from Perth to Philip island and back but we were a large group of 30+. I would carry some extra gas and being solo maybe a sat phone. We did about 675km a day and our Road captains have everything from gas stops to caravan parks all laid out. You might want to talk to a HOG group to help you out. Check for road construction. Sometimes you get a long stretch of dirt on the “highway”. But when we got back I was ready to turn around and do it again! Oh forgot bring octane booster gas is pretty poor going across you may not find 98!

    • @MotoByChance
      @MotoByChance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Octane booster is definitely on my list. I usually carry that in the US and we don’t have the vastness challenges that Australia does. I’m planning to keep my distance to +/- 500km/day, so I have a bit more time to stop along the way and enjoy. And I am probably over planning, but that is not necessarily a bad thing for the Nullarbor. 🙃

    • @MotoByChance
      @MotoByChance  ปีที่แล้ว

      Roo whistle… added to list. The road trains up north in WA are a trip. Are the ones east like that?
      And I am looking forward to the run. It will be an unforgettable trip!
