FEBT does trackwork on paint shop lead in Rock Hill

We get to look at a place that most people can never go - a Rail Yard that is getting worked on.
The Friends of the East Broad Top are repairing track that has been ignored for more than 50 years. Every tie (sleeper) in the ground was at least 50 years old. Most were probably 60 or 70 years or older.

The crew replaced 29 ties on track that has not been able to handle a steam engine for a long time. We had to dig out the remains of the old ties, put in new ties, Spike them, and get the dirt back where it belonged.
Tamping was left for the next day.
One thing to keep in mind.. back in "the day".. there were no hydraulic tie pullers or inserters.. No air power to pound the stakes.. just muscles..
And muscles.. and muscles.. Same with tamping..
