Good review of the Sea Harrier. I enjoyed the Falklands War recap and remember it as it was yesterday. As one of the comments put forward, I always thought the Argentine AF was hampered by the great distance they had to fly and were at the very limit of their range. This may have been their greatest handicap. The Argentine AF had very very brave men. Thanks for the posting.
Thanks Joe, Yes, as I said it was a bit like the Battle of Britain in many ways, the Argentines limited range & dwell-time over the target area being one of those similarities. 👍🏻
There was a series of magazines broughr out in the 80s?called The Falklands war ,and you received binders also and was followed by a hardcover called The Falklands war ( The Aftermath) Great read also Great content mate, keep it coming.
Very interesting video Peter 👍In case you haven't seen it already you must see "An Ungentlemanly Act" - a 1992 BBC television film (10 year anniversary?) about the first days of the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands. It portrays the action from both sides and is one of my all time favourite films.
Thank you for giving credit to the Argentine pilots. Another aspect often ignored was that the Skyhawks and SuEs were often operating at the the limits of their range and therefore unable to engage. That aside, I am also firmly in the camp that without the SHars, Operation Corporate may not have been feasible.
Thanks Peter, really enjoyed the video and historical context/discussion. I do wish that kit manufacturers would take a few more chances though and push the model concept further especially with the advent of 3d printing. Maybe even provide designs that can be printed out if price is an issue to provide parts in the kit. Or as is quite common, provide extra details as a separate purchase that is optional but specific to that kit. There doesn't seem to be anything new or innovative or interesting that this kit is bringing to the market. For example it could have had a roll-up piece of material that could have been used to represent a carrier deck and a couple of figures - say a pilot on ready station and a crewman standing alongside. Or it could have done something special with the more detailed parts like cockpit and landing gear. You did highlight the instructions which could be vastly improved.
Peter I was part of Sharkey’s 801 Sqdn on HMS Invincible, the book harrier 809, is not accurate, because the SHAR aircraft that came down on Atlantic Conveyor were replacements / additional aircraft for 800 / 801, hence 809 did not exist when the aircraft transferred to Hermes / Invincible. The aircraft became part of 800 & 801. Sharkey did write to the publisher and the author with our comments in the book. A better book from Sharkey is Her Majesty Top Gun.
Thanks Phillip, but fear not, I am reading Sharkey's book RIGHT NOW! 👍🏻 Thank you all for your incredible service, I am sure all my viewers would like to salute you. 🤝🇬🇧(I intend to do a review of this plus Dave Morgan's book in May).
Can you do comparison of the 1/48 Airfix Hawker naval harrier and Tamiya 1/48 Harrier. Most of the kit companies made 1/48 RAF version (RAF had numbers of Harriers compared to RN).
No, I do not have these kits, (though I did own the Tamiya and sold it onEbay because I could see it was bad...) I can tell you that the Tamiya is a very rare fail from Tamiya and so is to be avoided. Go for the Airfix instead...but this Kinetic kit is way better still.👍🏻
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Thank you ,its morning in Australia ,NSW it must be close to midnight in England when I was replying to your online channel.
I to find myself going down this rabbit hole now in my 50 s..This aircraft saved the day in many peoples minds..formidable aircraft which is why the Yanks snapped them all up..
Very enjoyable Peter thank you 👍👏👏🏴🏴

The controversy surrounding the british sub was when it sank the Belgrano and made its way home it hoisted the jolly roger.
