Thank you, Steve Hartman! Im smiling through tears. You are such a gifted journalist and story teller. I lost my 91 year old mother in 2017 and felt orphaned even though I was 60. Aren’t we lucky to have had such wonderful parents who reminded us of what is really important! My deepest sympathy to you and your family. God bless.

Thanks Steve Hartman! You did it again, I’m crying on Sunday Morning. Absolutely ♥️ your stories, it’s my favorite thing on TV. This story about your dad brings back fond memories of my Grandpa, who never let me forget the “depression “😳. His voice came screaming back w/ the words “close the refrigerator door, your letting all the cold air out”, to... “A fool & his money soon part” & SO many other statements. At the time I remember being aggravated, but now I realize he was RIGHT! Again, THANK YOU STEVE HARTMAN!

I had an incredible Mother. She was born in 1910 and lived to be 91. All 4 of her children adored her. Your piece today reminded me of her & her wisdom. They don't call them the great generation, for no reason.

    Dear Steve,
I lost my Mom at 93 3/4 over the summer. It is a great loss. I too feel like an "orphan" but am learning day by day that she is a part of me no matter where she is now. That and lots of voicemail messages are getting me through. ❤

I'm an orphan, too, Steve. Both parents died just a few years back (Mom - 3 years/Father 8). Not a day goes by that I don't miss them, and as you so eloquently stated, you have no one in your life who loves you unconditionally. There are many of us out here. So sorry about your dad.

Thank you, Steve! I had a similar Dad to yours. As the 1st child of 3 stair steps plus another daughter 10 years later. I remember him coming home from his 'day job' to eat supper with us then going to his 2nd or 3rd job for most of my childhood. As a cabinet maker he paid for all of our Medical, Dental, & school bills on the barter system. Our Dentist new office all done by Dad. Our General MD/Surgeon's Winnebago, kitchen, son's home all done by Dad, too. We were fortunate to have him in our lives til 6 days short of his 90th birthday. I still pick the phone up to call him when I have exciting or very sad info to share. Thanks for doing this 5-Father video call. It was enlightening.

My Dad passed away 31 years ago & my Mom 16 years ago. Think of them every day. I hope for the best for you & be comforted to know he was all about sacrifical love & so was your Mom. Dear Mr. Hartman....this is late but please know, it is no less heart-felt....My condolences to you on the “earthly loss” of Your Dad. At 82, My Dad left me - left us - on 9/11/19. As a friend so eloquently stated, “Well of course, Kelly...only HEROES die on 9-11.” My Mother’s husband of 62 years - My Dad - was SO very much like yours, Sir!! We celebrate AND miss him, GEEEEZE, so very much. Thank you for sharing. I believe you WILL be reunited with Your Mom & Your Dad....AND THAT will be for eternity-together again...Orphan no more!! May God bless you and your family 💕

What a sweet, sweet story. I laughed and I cried (happy tears, remembering my own amazing father...born in 1907) I thought my dad was the strongest, tallest, most protective man I'd ever known. When in actuality, he was average height, thin wiry build, and loved, loved, loved baseball. (Had he been born at a different time, I'm certain he would have played short-stop for the L.A. Dodgers (his beloved and favorite team). He always worked two jobs, and if (you) were a man, and worked only 1 job, he'd immediately ask you, why you didn't have a 2nd job? LOL. There were 11 of us kids, and dad thought the sun rose and set in us all. By most standards, we were poor...but I never realized we were poor, until I was an adult. We always had plenty of food, a safe clean home, and lots of love. My mom always said daddy spoiled us kids b/c he became a father so late in his life, (almost 50 y/o). He never had kids with his 1st wife, so when she died, and he met our mother...well let's just say, they're was never an issue in their bedroom, LOL. At any rate, my dad lived to be 93 y/o. He got to see us all grown up with lots of grandkids. But boy oh boy, do I miss that amazing hardworking, loving, giant of a man. #WeLoveYouDaddy ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ (= 11 hearts beat for you daddy)

Steve Hartman.... you may be an orphan, but the love you make us feel for you is immeasurable. I cry (yet always enjoy it) with every story you give. You give us humanity.... and with charm. Thank you. Your parents are proud!

I’m so sorry for your loss. I dread the day this happens to my parents. I know now that my Mother and Father will love me more than anyone else and when they are gone that’s not gone, or lost but not of this world. I hope we are all reunited in the afterlife. That is really my only hope. ❤️
