Oh I wish I could go adopt a little boy who needed me. But I am disabled now and can't drive and have a small limited income so I know they won't let me. I can barely watch my grandkids for a little bit, grandkids but I am only 47. I am going to have to find another way to help out these young kids who need it. One of my daughters just applied for a job where she may be working with kids in need. Maybe that can be a start. Blabbing I know but I just can't quit crying. He just broke my heart and filled it up all in the same 3 minute video. Such an amazing little man. To finally cry over his dog. Oh my heart. I am going to hug my senior dog an extra time tonight. This is Robbie’s mom. Thank you for understanding why we honored him with that gift. We have since had to let go of more of our old people (that’s what we call the senior dogs we adopt) and Robbie insists on holding them. It is their death that he continues to heal and healthfully grieve so many parts of his childhood.
This is such a beautiful story... it highlights how to best treat children who have histories of complex developmental trauma. It's not talk therapy, it's experiential therapy... due to his trauma this little boy's ability to connect, trust, and feel safe in human-to-human relationships was likely limited. Thankfully, his adoptive parents gave him the opportunity to practice loving, caring, and feeling safe in a different kind of mammal to mammal relationship. And, lo and behold, through experiencing the sense of loss of his beloved dog, he was able to feel love, sorrow, and compassion likely for the first time. This is therapy in a most practical and very effective way. Props to these adoptive parents...

There are special rescues that particularly rescue older dogs especially those whose owners had to go into care. Maybe Robbie can start his rescue now. Setting it up as a non profit might help with funding so his dream won't have to be delayed.

this was hands down one of the best ever feel good stories. loved it. and that little boy. what a sweet heart. he really opens your eyes up to the issue of older age adoptions.. whether human or canine. hugs to him. and hats off to his adoptive parents. abused children are tough, they made it through his shell, they are super people.
He is so wise and blessed. Good that he doesn't take the abuse that he endured with him in life by being abusive to others. Not only was he blessed to get those parents, they were blessed to get him. God really got that right.

Senior dogs (and cats too!) are some of the most loyal and loving pets anyone can ask for. They often need very little or no training (except in the case of extreme abuse earlier) We won't have them as long as a kitten or a puppy but it is worth the time and little effort. This kid's a giver and not a taker, a virtue that is often missing in the world today.
He saw himself in those vulnerable, not being able to defend themselves, so at this point in his life and with his parents love and support, he is finally able to open up and put his love into action.
