I also still fly FS2002 (Pro) combined with magnificent FS Global and Traffic 2004. Awesome airplanes, detailed airports and scenery, are still available on dvd`s and the net.
Water droplets effects on windshields, and corresponding sounds of rain on fuselage, are still remarkable to this day, in my humble opinion.
No problems with FPS rates at full settings, that's for sure!
And certainly no CDT's and annoying OOM`s either.
My OS still runs on Windows XP just for FS2002, FS2004, and "temperamental" FSX...
I suggest to you strongly to buy on E__y, the irresistible Emma Fields scenery dvd, made by defunct Lago.
Check out Cushman Lake and field just next door, with the rustic log cabin and beautiful horse.

I purchased MS Flight Simulator 2020 recently. Was a continuous user of FS 98, FS 2000, FS 2002, FS 2004 and FS X. Made many scenery files for FS 98 and FS 2000. Took a break for about 7 years. I recently reinstalled FS 2004. It was a tad tricky to get it installed on Windows 10. I found the 2020 version scenery to be incredible. Frame rates are a tad low but the game is not choppy if I don't run the display settings too high. Too bad the FS 2004 version was much more fun with the joystick. Even the small Cessna planes are all over the place in the 2020 version. I still remember the keyboard controls and still struggling with the 2020 version.

  • @theevilmeister
    @theevilmeister 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I moved to FSX and then P3D because they improved the error handling which meant fewer crashes due to scenery. If that weren't the case I would still be using it. FS9 was my favorite. Great video by the way. I am like you, the experience must be smooth to be acceptable. I can't understand how some people deal with extremely low frame rates just to use the newest, hottest thing. LM does indeed release too many versions of P3D. I wish they would wait longer to allow the community to catch up. One of the biggest changes in FS has been the move to 64 bit in P3D. Major change that really helps stability.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To be honest, for me Prepar3D V4 (64-bit) is and feels like the new FS2004. It just works and it is smooth, no crashes etc. and I just love flying in it. Prepar3D V3 was good too, but limited to 4GB virtual memory and sometimes a crash. I totally skipped FSX and in hindsight I'm very glad I did :P. And indeed, FS2004 is still a great sim, I just loved its stability and smoothness :).

Yeah!! Thank you for this video! I have been feeling 'old fashioned' for several years, not getting the newer FSX and still staying.... err: flying, the beautiful FS9.
I had so many good hours and days with it. Usuall I love flying the little Piper Cub (landing is almost impossible though!), it gives me the feeling of flying. Last project was from Seattle to the Florida Keys, took me all in all almost three years.
Later I learned how to fly helicopters. But only a few years ago I began to fly airliners, B737, a320, a330 and now first flight with B747. And I still have a lot of fun and the system is running well.
Have been using Flightsim a lot, even uploaded some minor things there.

    i got a 1500 euro system. with a i7
    16 gigs of ram a ssd and a gtx860m
And FSX is still giving me tons of performance issues.
In the longer I run the game the worse my frame rate gets. expecially during landing.
Usually it is better for me to save and reload before I start my final approach.
And that is without alot of addons. So I have also decided to go back to fs2004.
Yes I am going back to fs2004 in 2016. Because the performance in that is so great and with a few addons the graphics can be quite good for its time comparable to default fsx atleast.

the problem with FSX is, that FSX is an old program that did not have a technology of "separating tasks to different cores." FSX were introduced just before the dual-core CPU were introduced. so if you are using 4-core or 8-core CPU, your computer most likely ONLY using one of those cores, which makes it REAL slow.
so..... newer simulators? P3D has this problem pretty much fixed, but it is expensive..

Tons of good and expensive addon, ORBX, A2A aircraft, Accusim on one hand, running well enough with very high settings between 60 and 200 fps on a high end system and a still very buggy and faulty new sim with tons of eye candy on the other hand. Not prepared to spend thousands of dollars again for MS FS for all that beautiful addon. At least not with my crappy slow internet. Even with patience, tweaking, various adjustments, and experimenting, FSX (in my own experience and others too...) I will sooner or later, be rewarded with a "CDT" or "OOM" event.
It is on very rare occasions that this happens on FS9, usually at certain add-on airports, with add-on aircraft, with rain and detailed clouds, combined with lightning.
Again, these on very rare occurrence.
I have almost "thrown the towel" with FSX, having to use it in clear weather and with low scenery settings, to suppress those exasperating issues.
Must admit though that those wet runways on FSX, sure are stunning.
With my drawers full of add ons for FS9, it is quite beautiful to be honest with you.
The old girl doesn't really show her age with them.
Thank you for keeping the flame alive, as well as all the other faithful virtual pilots still dedicated to good old FS2004.

I have switched to Prepar3D in the mean time. I must say, it's kind of like FS9, but than in a new coat without the OOMs and CTDs that FSX users often experience. I have made quite a couple of flights with it so far, never had any issues. So, if you ever decide to upgrade, leave FSX as it is, and go for Prepar3D ;)

Thank you for taking time to reply and excellent suggestion.
My old PC (Dinosaure) is certainly not able to cope with the system requirements of fantastic Prepar3D.
I have been revisiting some of my old fighter plane/combat helicopter "games" lately.
Wings over Vietnam and Europe, LOMAC Gold, Strike Fighters 1, Comanche 4, Apache Havoc, and Gunship to name just a few, were really ahead of their times in graphics and executions.
I know that this is entirely another subject than MSFS, but my antiquated Windows XP is awesome with them.
Thanks again for your reply, and all your beautifully made instructive video presentations.
      So long fellow virtual(real?) pilot.

Did you have both FSX boxed and SE on the same OS?
If you did, you must of created a partition just so that all hell would not break loose on your PC I imagine?
I will soon get an old/new PC with windows 7-64 with FSX SE and get PreparD version 2 (because of my specs).
I agree with you entirely with the complicated licenses agreements of L.M.
I will just fork out the $200.00 bucks, it will be my own X-Mas present.
I still have XP just for MSFS-2002-FS9-and FSX Deluxe.
Tons and tons of add-ons for all three.
I also love Wings over Vietnam, Israel, and Europe, Strike Fighters and Gold, and Eagle Gold.
All of them by famed designer Tsuyoshi Kawahito.
Sublime on XP via Third Wire productions.
      So long fellow virtual pilot.

Haha Eliezer, I'm 68 and I'm an FS9 user. Started out with (FS98, then FS2000, FS2002, FS9 and FSX. After a week or so, I switched back to FS9. I still take the odd FSX flight, but FS9 is the one I use. Also the spot view is more to my liking. That was probably half of the reason I switched back, and also I spent a lot of hours manipulating a few scenery areas and adding my own airports. My scenery designs weren't compatible with FSX, so that was also a big part of staying with FS9. All in all, I just prefer it to the others. I'm running Windows 7, but loved XP.
The new FS2020 seems kind of interesting though, but now we are talking about a minimum of a new computer (again!), another OS, and who knows what else. Addons, and lots of extra time spent tweaking are also factors.
Good video. I gave a thumbs up and subscribed.

Great info, I used to use FSX and enjoyed it, put a lot of money into it however I made the move to X-Plane because the flight dynamics are amazing. On a cloudy day in the 757 at Leeds I can achieve 30-35fps. I don't experience many crashes, around 1 every 150 flights which means that 9 out of 10 times I am fine. Thank you for your video and I have learned a lot from it.

I still use FS9. Cause I have been flying for a virtual airlne for 21 years. I love the stability that FS9 offers on long hauls... I don't get CTD's on final.... And the 2nd reason I still fly FS9. I have spent thousands of dollars on payware addons.... (Every PMDG aircraft, other PW aircraft, Live Traffic, Live Wx, Orbx Scenery, Flight1 Scenery, Many of my custom liveries skinned by me, Etc...)

Yaaaayyyy great video 2020 and STILL ROCKING WITH FS2004!
I also recreate WW2 airfields in the UK and some other countries. I go out and research every base and then if i need to i recreate buildings in Sketch up to put onto the airfields for maximum authenticity and respect to those who never returned or flew from those bases. The best design programs were only made for FS2004! I was photographing and surveying at the derelict RAF/ USAF Grafton Underwood one time and was honoured to be there when a Willys Jeep rolled up driven by a young Brit guy and his 2 passengers were there for the anniversary of the base closing. Real Veteran B17 pilots! RESPECT! I told them about my project and they helped me create buildings from their base! Even the camp cinema! I do what i do to honour all Vets United States and all other allies who made the ultimate sacrifice. Flight Simulator 7 allows mw to do this, later ones DONT.
Like Windows 7 I ONLY use windows 7 as i had to give up my XP😢 Microsoft need to recognise their BEST PROGRAMS and OS systems and just update them! Everyone knows everything after Win7 are just pants.......MORE bugs than a truck windshield in mid summer and soooo unreliable. I dont want an OS or a sim program that gives me the ‘blue screen of death’ or dumps a design i have been working months or YEARS on🤷🏼‍♂️
I am an ex Royal Air Force aircraft engineer and flew choppers towards the end of my career. Now i am doing my private pilot licence and our flying school have a simulator aircraft set up for bad weather days to practice navigation and IFR. What sim programme do they use? FS2004 of course.
Microsoft......Bill Gates.....PLEASE LISTEN to your devoted fans who KNOW what they are talking about, i also build and program PC’s and computer systems and most of our industrial systems still use WINDOWS XP! Because it was THE BEST the same that FS9 IS.
How about a make over of FS2004\ Win 7 keeping the, fundamentally unaltered just a little improved? 😃 if you need suggestions just ASK us Mr Gates
    Thank You!
The new FS 2020 needs to be totally AWSOME and maybe have built in design editors.......to equal FS2004!
Oooh yes and my add on aircraft and aircraft textures and repaints only work in FS2004 I served on the Vickers VC10 in the RAF and the add on aircraft only works in FS2004 so ........I use it and am keeping it!

I still use FS2004 because my childhood and flight training was built around this game. Also, I like to keep the separation of realism to simulation so that way I do not get discouraged in getting my actual private pilot license. Real life is the best flight experience than any simulator.

    You nailed it bud.
    Im an FS9 junky myself.
I have at last count,1212 aircraft...
not to mention a hell of a lot of add ons.Modifying my files to fit my system, and getting things looking and performing as I'd like is too much to give up.
And you are so right about affording a system that can run the newer sims. I have FSX,and its in the box, collecting dust.
Bottom line...I enjoy FS9.I have years invested in building it to the level that I am happy with.
And...something that I noticed about a LOT of FSX simmers...
They are snooty, snotty twigs. Not all of them. But a LOT of them.
They run us FS9ers down and for what? As long as we're happy and they arent paying for our time, screw them.And...this joke that FS9 is a thing of the past is BS.
There are THOUSANDS OF US,and there are still many sites out there that carry add ons for us.
I think those FSXers that run us down would spend their time better by sticking their nose in their own game and let US do our thing. It'll be a cold day in hell before I go to FSX and do story trading with FSXers when its gamers are,for the most part, a bunch of rich, spoiled, mouthy brat twigs that enjoy attempting to put us down, when the truth be known,WE ARE QUITE HAPPY WITH OUR SIM. Enjoyed your video.

Groot gelijk, wanneer 2004 goed bevalt lekker mee blijven vliegen.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

I see your point with staying with FS2004. I ran FS2004 for many years after FSX was released, until the NGX from PMDG. Then seeing the difference between the NGX in FSX and the iFly 737 in FS2004 was enough to make me switch. It was a love hate relationship with FSX and took me a while to get things working well, however there is a lot of help on the net and a lot of help in the community. I held off moving to P3D originally as I say it as a rebranding on FSX, except with many addons not working or not being licenced. I did get FSX:Steam when it was on offer and that was a lot easier to deal with and a lot smoother. Then LM released P3Dv3, developers got on board with their addons and I would never look back. It is easy to install, has next to no tweaking and runs so much better with no stutters.

I've had it since ~2006. The box is worn and dusty by now, but the Level-D 767 has become a bit of a sound design baby for me lately, and I've been putting in way more hours in FS9 than I ever thought I would the past two years lol
If I knew my way around that new sound engine MSFS uses then I'd love to work with it too. I prefer that game for my low-and-slow VFR flights using sectionals.

I will be getting a new/old PC on windows 7-64 bit, and I am ready for serious computer gymnastics to get it to fly in W 7 combined with my tons of add-ons.

Just beware of automatic updates that might complicate things all of a sudden.

FS9 is a winner. I have near-identical reasons for still flightsimming with it today: there's a lot to download for it and if properly tuned, it WILL get you good performance on a mediocre system (as I have). I know two people who switched to the latest FS and they are generally disappointed with its behavior: flightsimming is okay, visually attractive, but who wants to wait for a 80 Gb update (!!) before being able to "kick the tires and light the fires" ??
