Sorry you're feeling that way. I lived in DC for over a decade and I was able to thrive quite well. However, I moved to a warmer climate after experiencing my 2nd blizzard in the city. It was a good time, but the weather definitely impacted my spirit.

The weather can suck, but if you decide you like to embrace 4 seasons, then it's one of the few parts of the world with a true 4 seasons. This is admittedly not for everybody.
I was born and raised and am still living in Silver Spring, MD(very close to DC) and it’s just fine here. It’s not gloomy all the time, well maybe in the winter! We literally had not that much rain and summer is almost over mostly sunny weather. I will always love the DMV and encourage people to come here
Your also from Houston, so anything north to you is going to seem cold, your making DC out to be like it's Seattle or somewhere rainy like out West, until the next day it's 70 and sunny, weather is great along the mid Atlantic plus if your used to hot muggy Houston no seasons and your not built to enjoy the 4 seasons, of course DC is going to seem cold, until it's 104 degrees in August 😅😅😅
I can handle 4 seasons if they stayed in their lanes, but this place feels more like Winter for 8 months, Spring for 1 month, Summer for 2 months, Fall 1 month
In Houston, you cannot do anything because it is extremely hot! No one is outside in 100+ degree weather during the day. If you happen to be outside in Houston, it is most likely in your car (super boring). At least DC has a metro and better walkability. Walking is proven to improve mood but Houston lacks this feature in a city. I think if you make a comparison, try to show both sides. I still enjoyed your video tho - current Texas resident
DC is 100% more walkable than Houston but when it's hot outside people just wait for the sun to go down and then pop out. When it's cold your whole day is ruined.
I moved here because I accept an awesome job and I plan on making this my new home. It's just taking some time to get used to a completely different culture.
A fellow Brit in DC (dual citizenship). You’re right, their gloomy weather is nothing in comparison to the UK’s however from my experience, London ingeneral is more vibrant than DC as a city
Was thinking about moving to or around DC. Originally from CT and now living in FL. This video was perfect and answered most of my questions. I'm spoiled with 24/7 sunshine and blue skies in FL and don't want to go back to the shitty, grey, gloomy depressing days I've experienced in CT. The seasonal depression is real, and want to avoid it at all costs.

Oh my word! I completely relate to how you're feeling. Im from NC born n raised. And have been in the DM(V) for 1.5 years. It took my mind and body to adjust to the weather! Aside from the snowfall this year, the winter wind CHILL in the District are BRUTAL! Let alone wondering when Spring is EVER going to come. Although I landed a great job opp here. My quality of life to stay here long term is still in the balance. And don't get me started on the cost of livinf, sheesha I'm strongly thinking of moving back south to Charlotte. But best of luck to you!
I went through some of the same things and im from NYC but if you’re worried about cost of living its best to move to the outskirts in MD it’s more affordable
I really do think it's all about perspective and each person's personality. I moved to Dallas 1.5years ago and I'm not enjoying myself. The summers are brutal, terrible traffic (like any other major city/metroplex), very limited outdoor activities, public transit isn't that great. Lots of great restaurants though!
I guess I understand how you feel. I currently live in Atlanta. I hate it! Most people love it here. It's overpriced, congested, and has too many bugs. It kind of reminds me of Houston. I hated living there, too. However, I love visiting DC. It has an environment that I prefer, with the right amount of entertainment and better restaurants.
@Canoncorey the food and restaurant experiences I've encountered in DC are definitely better than Atlanta. I like to be treated well in addition to tasty food. I guess it's a matter of preference.
I’m from DC, born & raised & relocated to Houston 4 months ago, everything about the DMV is depressing. Oh & the trees weren’t dead😂😂😂😂 they hadn’t bloomed yet, the weather is bipolar!!
Yo, what brings you to DC? I was living in Houston last year and I came across you videos. I am back in DC now so small world. Dc is not that bad. It's gloomy looking during the winter time. It will be different in the spring/summer time.
I came to DC for a new job. I keep hearing about the spring/summer time but it honestly feels like there's not a spring here at all. There's been like 3 days I felt like I can go outside without a sweater on this year so far.
As native Houstonian It’s a reason us southerners stray frm up north And just move frm city to city in the south Cuz me personally I couldn’t imagine feeling depressed or shoveling snow all the time!!!
I’ve done a number of major cities between CA, the Midwest, and East Coast. I’ve done 2/3 on the top 3 largest and about 1/3 on top 15. DC is my next and I found this clip while searching for more information about it. All that to say this: what I’ve learned from all of this uprooting and settling is that all the major cities are great and all the major cities suck. There’s no perfect major city so find the one that works the best for you. I’ve gone through a ton of high expectations and major disappointments with some of them - which is what I’m kind of getting from this video. It’s all good to call it an experience and move on to the next. In retrospect you’ll eventually be okay with having simply tried something new. Hope you find the city that’s right for you. One last thing: I hit a major slump just like you did for one of those cities but I decided to take everything it threw at me, in terms of disappointment, and basically forced what the city did offer to be my own lived experience. Requires a lot of work but I will say that in the end, that city did in fact become my home and every time I visit it I remember all the good things I was able to squeeze out of it. I actually would move back to try it again but this time on my own terms with my own reset on expectations. Good luck and make sure you take vitamins this winter because of the weather and lack of sunlight.
Your first mistake was looking for Texas weather in the northeast. Second, work on finding a group of authentic friends that are familiar with the area. They’ll show you everything that makes our city great.
As an international single man I am really disappointed about Washington DC (dmv)and how bad is social life and general vibe of the city. Shitty night life, dating, weather, and social interactions comparing to other places I have seen and also ridiculous expenses. This place is absolutely depressing and if you like your mental health move to a different location.
@@Canoncorey Exactly! I have a nice job here but I will move in 8 months and never be back again. Having nice job and money does not worth depression and mental health problems. You are not alone bro, many of my friends who lived here have same opinion and most of them left.
I’m glad you said it!! I’m from Nyc and I lived in the Dmv for 3 years and I did Like it but it is very depressing. Couldn’t put my finger on what it was but thats just the vibe out there.
First of all, how can you evaluate the weather if you have only been in the city for 100 days? Once you said that I stopped watching. **EDIT** Come to find out I stopped watching and that’s really all you had. The weather?? Bruh 🙄🤦🏿 This is one of the worst videos I watched on TH-cam. Just being candid. You had no substance other than the weather. U said nothing about the people, the nightlife, the restaurants, the traffic, public transportation, cost of living, man can I go on?! U said NUFFIN other than the weather sucks and you only been here for 100 days! Make it make sense! 🤦🏿
The point I was making is that the cold is the core reason things haven't started up yet. People have been inside too long from what I'm used to and that's something I have to adjust to. Yes the traffic and other things suck as well but the cold is all I focused because I didn't want to just bash DC. But we all know there is plenty more to talk about.
@@Canoncorey bro u have to experience the summer before u make a video like this. You’re not getting the whole meal. The thing about DC is that it the weather is a mixed bag. Winter u can get a lot of snow although it hasn’t been snowing much the last few years. Global warming 🤔? But yea bro summers are pretty lit there’s a lot to do. But u can’t judge the whole city off the cooler seasons bro yea the weather is trash in the winter particularly lately it seems Mother Nature has been bipolar. I’m from Atlanta, I’ve been to D.C once and I liked it a lot. I chose to go there during late February - Early March though so it was colder. But I saw the Washington Monument, Smithsonian etc… price wise though I’d say it’s probably more expensive to live there. So that’s something.

@Canoncorey liking a place and knowing a place is 2 different things. You could visit a bigger city in the wrong neighborhood and judge the whole city based on what you see in a weekend. It takes a while to really know a place and appreciate it. But to each his own
It's not really that kind of city. What you looking for is where you came from. Honestly with your expectations and leaving DC you should move to NYC then once that's done move to Atlanta.
I came to DC for work. In that aspect this place is great. When it comes to spending money on entertainment this place lacks that greatly. I did go to a few concerts though. That was fun.

@@young-king301 Fair enough. I wouldn’t really say there’s nothing to do, but I feel there should be more things to do for a big American city. I’ve been trying to give it a chance, but I guess it’s that corporate white-collar vibe that I really don’t like. I also find it extremely hard to meet people here, people seem to be too busy to want to socialize outside of networking. I no stranger to moving to a new city without knowing anyone, but something about the D.C. area has made the move extremely difficult for me socially. With that said, the job market here is outstanding, and it been really good for me professionally. If I had more of a social network here I’d probably be a lot happier.

Another thing is people in the DC area just work government jobs or 9 to 5's retire and die you won't find many creative artsy or entrepreneurial people like NYC, ATL etc... I personally have already saved my $$ for years here with a plan and I will put it down on a condo or house in HTX or another cheaper city and get a high paying remote job / combine with investments and yeah so I found your videos because I'm learning everything about HTX. It will take years to pay off a house or condo that you could probably pay of with a few years of a DC area salary while renting a cheap room or something in Maryland suburbs. I wish you the best of luck in the DC area brother make sure to leverage that salary and use it to take your investments and content to the next level. I've learned to focus on the positive though as DC / DMV make that bread and invest it!
I’m glad someone else said it! Been in the DMV my whole life and I’m bored as hell and I’m the process of leaving by 2025. Plus the cost of living is ridiculous in the surrounding suburban areas. love the diversity of people culture wise. But as someone who’s artistic and spiritual I feel like people here are so out of touch with life outside of gov. Based jobs and basic 9-5s. People sometimes tend to think they’re more important than what they actually are. Plus I like people who are open minded and like to try new things. People I grew up with here are so closed off and boring at times. Everything seems so repetitive too food places, stores, entertainment, etc.
You cant save money in DMV it's too expensive. That's not a place to go to save money unless you're living with family. You're not going to pay 2k a month rent and save money.
@@LibraYall Yes you can. I'm doing it right now. Get a high salary, Cut all debt, live cheap, make the sacrifice to rent a room or a cheap basement. The issue is apartments and houses are expensive so thats when you take your money saved and put down on a house in Texas, North Carolina etc and switch jobs. By the way ppl have hyped up Spring out here I was expecting ppl to be outside, but it all seems like an extended winter.
The weather can suck, but if you decide you like to embrace 4 seasons, then it's one of the few parts of the world with a true 4 seasons. This is admittedly not for everybody.

Mate I moved from England 😂😂 DC ain’t bloody gloomy, why you move up here if you don’t like the weather
I moved here because I accept an awesome job and I plan on making this my new home. It's just taking some time to get used to a completely different culture.

I was with you until you said better restaurants. The food in the DMV is trash. 🚮
@Canoncorey the food and restaurant experiences I've encountered in DC are definitely better than Atlanta. I like to be treated well in addition to tasty food. I guess it's a matter of preference.

Glad you found it helpful!
I was told by a DC native that DC stands for Don't Come 😅
They may be right, but if you're like me and you have to live here for work you have to try and make it a home.

Second, work on finding a group of authentic friends that are familiar with the area. They’ll show you everything that makes our city great.

As a dmv native i understand why you feel that way, I always got love for home but sometimes i just don’t feel like i belong

Shitty night life, dating, weather, and social interactions comparing to other places I have seen and also ridiculous expenses. This is what I keep trying to explain. Most people who think opposite are people who have never lived anywhere else.
@@Canoncorey Exactly! I have a nice job here but I will move in 8 months and never be back again. Having nice job and money does not worth depression and mental health problems. You are not alone bro, many of my friends who lived here have same opinion and most of them left.

First of all, how can you evaluate the weather if you have only been in the city for 100 days? Once you said that I stopped watching.
**EDIT**
Come to find out I stopped watching and that’s really all you had. The weather?? Bruh 🙄🤦🏿
This is one of the worst videos I watched on TH-cam.

The thing about DC is that it the weather is a mixed bag. Winter u can get a lot of snow although it hasn’t been snowing much the last few years. Global warming 🤔?
But yea bro summers are pretty lit there’s a lot to do. But u can’t judge the whole city off the cooler seasons bro yea the weather is trash in the winter particularly lately it seems Mother Nature has been bipolar. its only 3 months dude. It takes at least 2 years to figure out the fabric of a city
Shouldn't take 2 years to know if you like a place or not.
Your vibe is like, you came from the South and you wanted a life changing experience. Then NYC is for you.😂 And it will be a good wakeup from DC.

@@Canoncorey 🤨 whatever you say. This year it was cooler for a longer duration but it had loads of 80’s n even 90’s early 🙌🏿. I got no words and it’s a disco inferno right now
Corey I didn’t know u moved and left houston I found ya videos when I first moved there from nyc and my dude welcome to east coast weather. U better then me bro all that Htown sunshine helped my soul. The whole north east is gloomy but dc changed around 2009 very corporate and high rises with no soul. It’s no longer chocolate city like it use to be. Trust me I left the north east for Texas way more soul and character down there
I think texas is boring
@@FranciscoTirado-v5v the only lit place in 2024 in America is Miami. I’m mean real lit 🔥 where people go to actually have fun and turn up, most other cities like nyc and LA are for pics but those places have lots of issues post Covid with lounges paying high rent and taxes trying to stay open, people go to those places for the gram
DC / DMV area is good to make your money save save save and leave. The vibe is very weird it is NOT like a NYC for example.....The people also are hit or miss but very type A, terrible fashion sense, work is their life, very proper, pretentious and extremely rude. Like you said the weather is literally gloomy cold and rainy its horrible. The traffic is the worst in the country making driving anywhere terrible. You will have the stable job the high pay etc but as countless people say it stops there.
You will save a ton of money and even more if you just live with family. The DMV area has cheap basements all over the place as well as rooms. The issue is apartments and houses are expensive so thats when you take your money saved and put down on a house in Texas, North Carolina etc and switch jobs. Take a pay cut if needed because you already have a chunk of house payed off or from money saved in DMV. Damn I should charge for this advice. LOL
you need a hug dude, let's hang out
I lived there 2 years.. felt the same and left.. best thing was leaving.. however it is one of the most beautiful cities in America.. but I would rather visit z
Thats EXACTLY how I feel at this point. I’m just going to take trips out of this place as often as possible.
Nah is depressing to those who wanted it to be. If you dont like the weather look for another place. Besides Houston is horrible for jobs.
I'm just dealing with the weather long enough to take another trip.
I grew up in suburban Maryland. Yeah the weather can suck. There is so much to do.
I'm going to make it my mission to find those things to do.
Are you sure you are in the right Washington?
HI Handsome, unfortunately, you're on the wrong coast. The East Coast (North) experiences all four seasons. Hopefully Summer will help you from not being so home sick.
Yours Truly,
JERSEY GIRL
WAIT- you didn’t research east coast weather before you moved there?????? Of course ur not getting Houston weather.
I knew what to expect but it's different when you're actually here day after day
Do you still feel this way about DC?
It’s better but the weather is still gloomy quite often
@ as someone visiting the district, where would you recommend they stay? Hotel/area wise?
Maybe it's just you maybe if you had a positive attitude about life maybe things will look different if you were six feet under you would love to state that you live in and you will love the weather you wouldn't complain because you wouldn't be able to. I like your situation then change it
You should definitely watch more of my videos. This was shot MONTHS ago.
Why Are you there if you don't like it
I was offered a very good job. It changed my life.
Do.
You know anyone that is from here?Trust me , it will be way better
I'm slowly starting to meet a few people.
Not one lie told, moving to FL next year!
I lived there for 2 years and I loved every bit of it.

Brah, the people in the comments were pre triggered before the video.
