I know this video is super old, but thank you so a ton for this video. This truck had been kicking my ass for this very reason.

@@cam32112 we highly appreciate it. I have been a technician for over 15 years. All my skill is useless without information. Ford dealership, old wrecking yards and every facility I have went to know nothing about this transmission. No parts breakdown or anything. I refined my search to "t19 shifter" and boom I got this. Life saver. My customer almost had me scrap the truck

I have a T18 in a 1971 Ford F-350 and I had the exact same issue as you. Thanks to your video I was able to fix this problem as if it were new. Thanks for taking the time to post the video. I was actually fortunate not to have to drill mine out as the pin took most of the wear. The hole was oversized with a .250" drill shank but I had a drill that measured .262" and it slide in like a charm. It actually fit the shifter groove also. Nice tight shifts now!

Just a note...I fixed my T-150 which had the same issue. However instead of ordering a part, I went to the "Fastenal Store" and bought what I needed for about 50 cents. It's a dowel pin, they come in multiple sizes just like nuts and bolts.

Because mine was so worn I had to make a new pin from the end of a drill bit that just fit the hole perfectly. You can get new pins & other T-19 parts at Cobra Transmission Part Number: CT-366485A. Take the shift knob off by putting an open end wrench that just fits over the shifter & tap the knob up with a mallet or plastic hammer. I got the dust cap off with a pipe wrench. I wrapped a shop rag around it to keep it from getting gouged. Hope this helps.

I have the same issue. I'm considering taking an angle grinder and cutting a groove down to the hole the pin goes through. welding the pin to the shifter shaft so you can just drop the shaft into the top end and the pin can just run down that slot I cut and into place with 0 play.

That may work fine. I no longer have this truck.

Same problem I had, I drilled a bigger hole and added a bushing, also welded the slut edges on the shifter and grinded it straight lasted 4 year

I have the same problem with my t18. So A fix I have heard is to cut another groove in the shift ball and drill another hole in the top cover for a second pin.

    Question, how did it shift?
Also , what oil do you run in the t5? Thinking about running the lucas 50wt transmission oil. (Sorry I know this is a old video)

Shifted much better with significantly less movement in all directions. I use Royal Purple Synchromax fluid. Thanks

Thanks for the repair details, excellent description.
I have the same problem with my T-19 (my is on a 1977 International Scout II).
I wanted to ask about the removal of the top tranny cover and what happens to the shift forks when they are lifted out with the cover. Do the forks move or change position when the cover is lifted out?
Also, when reinstalling the cover, is there some special alignment of the shift forks when setting them back down into the gear cluster?
    Thanks

My 87 ford 4x4 has the t19 but when driving like up hill it dos good but down hill or trying to slow down using the gears to slow me it sounds like it grinds and reverse it grinds how hard is it gonna be to fix

No way to know for sure, but I think your going to have to open it up & at least take a look at the synchros.

I'm not sure. I would have to do some research on that. Google it?

How the hell did you get that out without pulling the stick?? Or maybe you did...? Mine is doing the opposite. The forks get froze up and won't move

Atleast 2 people below said it worked if you haven't gotten to trying it yourself. I'm gonna do mine soon.

DAMN! Have you tried to find a top cover for it? Do you have the piece that broke off? I have seen some cast iron brazed so well it was stronger than when new & broke in a new spot! I wonder if a T-18 top cover will fit a T-19. Might Google it & see because there's a lot more T-18s out there. Best of luck with that.

How can I change and add oil to transmission

    • @cam32112
      @cam32112  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It should have a drain plug on the bottom & a fill plug on the side. Fill until oil overflows out fill plug hole & replace fill plug with some Teflon tape on the threads.

Thank you for uploading the video, but damn man, your camera work needs some desperate improvement. Half the time your point of interest isn't in view, and I'm sure you've made some people motion sick with all that bouncing around.
Again, thank you for the vid. I'll definitely be improving my shifter slop after this (it seems like such an easy fix too).
