  • We decided to install a TV lift in our RV. We looked at a lot of RV layouts and there was one thing they all had in abundance.... TVs. We decided we didn't want TVs everywhere. So when we started our remodel, we took all the TVs out. We wanted windows and views of wherever we were. So our solution to keep that feel was to install a TV in a cabinet on a lift. It can sink away and out of view. Our main living space feels so open and bright and installing the TV cabinet hasn't ruined that.

It’s been so great to be able to drop the tv down out of the way of the window.

I plan to do the same idea. My bright idea is to ad a plexi screen on the front of the cabinet so I can see the tv in the down position. Then run a fireplace video in the window. also attach a fake plant or something to the lid.

Take a look at the unity mb model of the leisure travel vans. They have that same design. You can use the tv while it’s down.

Wow I have a 36 foot 1998 diesel pusher that is very similar to yours, that I’m doing some minor projects on like solar, back up cameras, roof repair and and other minor fixes, but I am wildly impressed with all you two have done.
Thanks so much for the inspiration. Was just watching your shower recirculation video. WOW!!!

I'm looking to build a workstation that folds down when not in use, and can also serve as an eating area in the rv. I'll remove a couch to do this. How would you go about securing the brackets to the rv wall? What size screws should I use so that I won't put a whole through the exterior of the rv? I was thinking of using a strip of 1x2 and mount it to the wall and attach the brackets to the 1x2. Any suggestions?

I framed our bed using 1x2s secured to the wall and mounted the rest of the frame off of that. But I also used vertical 1x2s to help support the down ward force of the weight.
Our walls are made using 1/4in plywood on the inside. So I secured the 1x2s to the wall with 1 5/8in screws to be sure that the screws went into the wall about an inch or less after going through the 1x2. I estimate our walls are about 1.25-1.5in thick.
I tried to be sure that our screws did not go into the wall more that 1 inch. So I had to buy a bunch of sizes to be sure that I could accommodate different thicknesses of material attaching to the wall.
My suggestion would be to have the structure mostly self supporting and just use the wall to stabilize it. I would guess that your walls are not substantial enough to support the full thing.
      Hopefully that helps. :)
