I just returned from 60 days shooting in the Yukon, the Arctic and Alaska. I shoot with the Fuji MF 100s and the 50r. I shot 9000 full, uncompressed raw files plus video and iPhone images and only used my iPad Pro and several 1tb SSD drives. I took four of them. I had no issues- even on a single six hour shoot where I went they 2,119 images! I also had about thirty SD CARDS ranging in size from64g to 256g. I also had a couple of larger LaCie Rugged to backup the SSD drives. At the end of each day I would copy the memory cards onto one of the Samsung SSD’s, then review and cull a bit in LR if I wasn’t too exhausted, then back up one HD to another. One that was done since the SSD ‘s are so small they were always on my person where the backup LaCie’s were in a room safe or hidden in my truck.

That's quite the process. SSDs are definitely getting cheap enough now that they are becoming quite useful as backup while traveling. Might end up getting one to store and backup video work on my next trip. Thanks for sharing! :)

Honestly, this is also what I have done. I'm getting ready to go on a 1 month photography road trip, and expecting to take 20K+ photos.... I can fit that many on four 128gb SD cards, so figuring 8 would give me a double copy of those. "IF" I could see I was coming up on 20K shots, and not going to have enough storage, I could always buy a few more cards "during" my trip. SD memory cards are pretty easy to get, and I'll be hitting a Wal Mart for groceries every few days anyway. Guess I need to get a few more cards.... and that little carrying case :) Thank you :)

which card brands and types do you use? nice video
I am going on a trip to India for a month. SD cards get expensive...if they arent fake that is...which is a whole nother video...While in Mumbai I will use a gaming PC and an external 4TB hard drive but in remote areas I will be using 2 Insta 360 cams and 2 Olympus Micro Four Thirds cams for photos ...mostly. I want to be redundant with the backups on the road but dont wanna take my laptop....sooo... I am using a cell phone card reader and the 4TB external HDD

My Z9 takes CFExpress Type B cards which are very expensive … so no chance I’m going to buy backup versions … LOL. Maybe I could copy the photos to cheap SD cards in those cases? Likely will be getting portable SSD drives …

I make multiple copies every night .. try a 250 gig flash drive around your neck as well… if luggage stolen you still have 1 of 3 copies .
And upload to the cloud every night if possible .

It can be tough to get things backed up on spotty travel wifi, but definitely a good idea.

    good idea.
    BUT
sometimes you like to quickly review your shots, to spot any problems or sound etc.
Just a quick check for the day.
So a notebook is STILL NEEDED or some other device that works in more of less the same way....

How did you get your photos into the external hard drives. Did they have a card reader built in?
