    Great points on talks about cancel culture when it comes to retroactive history shaming. It should be a point of contention about the time, place, and people. Because, we have no clue what our great grandkids will say about us in 80 years, either. Will they look at us and see us as savages for not fighting for the migrant children that are still locked up in cages? Will they shame us for still supporting companies like Apple or Samsung because the metal components they use are dug up by child miners in Africa? Or that we still wear Nike, Adidas, Gucci, and other name brands, that are still made in sweatshops made by workers that are getting paid in pennies?
    It's good that we have hindsight and can assess the failings and ugliness of our society in a way that betters us as a people; It shows that we're evolving. But to not see the line between an honest indignation (of a situation),and blind hatred (mob mentality) really sets the paradigm shift to what future generations will say about us, today.

      Are you Asian? I noticed people get mega sensitive when Asians accuse someone of racism

    • @Vincisomething
      @Vincisomething 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@tibetan.music.universe I'm half black half Asian, but the funny thing is I didn't accuse him of being a racist. I was just trying to explain the difference between two terms, but then he (he's white... of course....) turned into a little bitch because he took it as me criticizing him and went into this whole diatribe of how I'm labeling him and that "he fights against bigotry" (he doesn't LOL). The funny thing is I've caught him saying the n-word afterwards when he thought I wouldn't find out.
      He's also homophobic and transphobic, but as soon as you call him out on something, he immediately pulls the victim card and tries to convince you that he's not homophobic, transphobic, racist, or misogynistic.

    Around 34:03 I agree that it can be confusing so to break it down
    Stereotypes - an oversimplified generalization about a person or group of people based on their membership to a certain group
    ex) women are emotional
    Prejudice- beliefs, thoughts and attitude towards an individual (usually negative) based on their membership to a group. It is a prejudgment.
    Ex) you don’t like an Asian because he is doing better than you and because you assume he’s only smarter than you because he is Asian
    Discrimination - ACTIONS against a group of people.
    Ex) cultural discrimination: the example you gave with the Asian actors only doing stereotypical roles. Why is that? Because white is the norm and the accepted view of a main role. Minorities were only accepted in roles if it fit that narrative at the time.
    Racism - discrimination based on race
    You can be racially prejudiced to a white person (which I don’t condone) for example not like a white person because they’re white, reverse racism or racism against a white person is not real because that is assuming that everyone is on an even playing field which is not true. At the end of the day, the system is predominantly white and favors white people.
    Yes, for example, Jimmy is a white boy in a black school and is hated on for being white, but once he leaves that school does that affect his status as a white man? When he leaves those school grounds does he have to automatically worry about it being his last day if a cop were to stop him? Does he have a lack of representation of him in the media? Will he not be able to get a job because his name is ethnic? Will he be blamed for what Putin does because he is white like ALL Asian Americans are currently due to COVID beginning in Wuhan, China? No. Yes he can discriminated for other things due to his socioeconomic status, if he has a disability, etc. but NOT because he is White.
    These concepts are hard even when I studied them so I don’t blame people for not understanding, but I think it is important to do the research and not just throw terms around.

    I think I would like gardening as well. It gives a sense of accomplishment and freedom, there's definitely an element of skill and things you learn only from experience. It teaches virtues like patience and resolve, perseverance, resiliency.
    Then there's the talk about how mainstream produce in supermarkets is more about yield and resistance to pests and the environment, not about quality and taste. Big agri also over uses fertilizers and pesticides which erodes soil and kills the bee population.
    It would definitely be interesting to grow. Plant some staples like potatoes, carrots, corn, marijuana.. I would LOVE to have fruit trees like oranges, plums, watermelon plants, strawberries.. That would be great. haha. So many varieties and combinations possible. And then you rotate crops to keep the soil fertile.

    I hate cancel culture, it's very damaging and extremely temporary. The only time I get frustrated/angry is when the person/people are repeat offender and apologise but still continue to do the exact same thing again and again. (E.g Jeffrey Star, Kim K, Shane Dawson, Donald Trump (Eventhough, he doesn't apologise either way but justifies it instead). You can learn your mistakes, apologise/take responsibility/acknowledge it and never do it again. I'm fine with it and I think the majority are too. However, it's always the loudest ones who speak/act that mess it up for everyone, them being the majority or minority doesn't matter.

    • @CozieGhosty
      @CozieGhosty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You hit the nail on the head. I think we should give people the grace to learn from their mistakes. If they keep being assholes, then we don't have to give them our time. But if they genuinely don't understand we should educate before canceling.

    The thing about people saying "It was a different time" is that even back then it wasn't right. People won't take that excuse, because it's not much of an excuse to begin with.
    "It's from where I was raised/how I was raised" is much better.

    Most of the time black people never simply hate or dislike another race because of their skin color. It comes from a history of being done wrong by said race that causes them to have a dismay for them. If you ask a black person why they are prejudice toward a certain race, most of the time they can give you pretty solid reasons why and those reasons will all lead back to that black person being hurt or suppressed by said group. If you ask a racist white person why they hate black people, the reasons will mostly be stereotypes to green light their racism because they want justification for why they hate someone because of their skin color. Black people don’t have the economic power to be racist. Most people today use the word racism in the wrong context too. Me hating a person because of their skin color will not stop said person from being successful in America but you better believe that White people can stop black people from getting good jobs, having good healthcare, getting good housing, good education, etc. hence why Black peoples say we can be prejudice but not racist. We don’t have the economic power to take these things away from white people. Systemic racism and regular racism do go hand and hand. Both are used to suppress. Calling someone a racist slur is used to suppress. Just the venom in the word itself demeans. I hope you get what I’m saying.

    Well Joe some young people actually do have a great capacity for empathy but that's because they were taught to be empathetic. But in order to learn empathy you also have to receive empathy. Being empathetic also requires a person to be able to meet people where the are but more often than not pride gets in the way. People young and old always believe that if they were in the situation it would be different because of their own pride. they can't let go of pride. Pride is one of the major killers of empathy. So if you want people to be more empathetic you should teach people to be less prideful.
    Also a lot of good movements that have been happening have been being spoken on for years. For generations people have been speaking out against sexism xinaphobism discrimination stereotyping and racism. As a matter of fact a lot of the different major protest groups are ran by people who are in their thirties, forties, and even fifties. These protestors were raised by people who wanted to invoke equality. They let the younger voices become louder to change the future along with changing the now

    Racism is most definitely a Spectrum.
    But racism is a top down affair, but the idea "Black people can't be racist" stems as far back as civil rights when most of the world was overtly controlled by the white majority which is more covert these days. And not just in economic or societal ways but in language. From things like always using the colour "black" in the negative to calling Cannabis "marijuana".
    When a white person is racist to a black person it perpetuates systemic racism at the top.
    That's partly why some people say black people can't be racist but prejudice. Because it's lower on the spectrum. Sadly in Jamiaca arguably many black nations perpetuate racism among each other through "colourism".
