If a blind person says every color looks the same would you agree w them or understand that they don’t know what they’re talking bout and keep it moving 🌚🌝David we know you’re old as fuck and this music ain’t for you but don’t say they all sound the same when you just clearly don’t like the sound or dont do enough research to realize juice uzi and lil pump DO NOT SOUND THE SAME
Every artist imitates their idols till they find their own sound. and theres nothing wrong with that. Imitation is the biggest flattery. For example the rapper Logic early on in his career sounded alot like J.Cole, Kendrick and Drake. but he eventually ended up finding his own sound. Even juice was inspired by eminem, lil wayne, etc but he found his own sound eventually. Counter argument could also be that yes Biggie and Snoop were at the beggining stages of rap so they didnt really have anybody to imitate. But im sure they had people in their local neighborhoods who they wanted to rap like (brothers, friends, classmates,etc.). Every piece of music is influenced from another piece of music. its a never ending cycle. and aint nothing wrong with it. also lil uzi vert sounds nothing like lil pump lol.
I get the feeling you guys don’t know much about Beyoncé’s writing process now that she has creative control. She is almost always involved in everything thing even if she didn’t write some lyrics. Harmonizing, key changes and especially percussion have her all over it. She’s a perfectionist which pisses off a lot of people that work with her. It’s also why her fans give her so much shit when she fucks up or something isn’t as good as it could be.
I don't get how you can say something will be timeless or not in the moment. No way people were listening to Nelly like " in 20 years this is still gonna slap."
@crazedstargazer i dont think that's the problem, i think these "lil" rappers take the public spotlight more often than others because of drama they create or how ridiculous they are. Plenty of Hip Hop and R&B artists still exist like Anderson .Paak, Gallant, Mac Ayres, Khalid, Logic, etc.
the reason the chinese prom dress was a problem has to do with the treatment of asian-AMERICANS in the united states. saying 'well chinese people in china thought it was cool' is TOTALLY BESIDE THE POINT. it is cultural appropriation because the same people that would wear that would be the people that make fun of asian-americans in school. and every asian-american has experienced the racist jokes and stereotypes at the hands of those kids. that's why the prom dress touched on a sore spot. asians in asian countries don't experience that racism and therefore have zero clue about what is appropriation. they dont get a say in this. i'm really disappointed at this episode david. you are excusing racism and racist jokes cause you don't fucking get it. it's a bad message to send to your audience and you are part of the racism problem if you keep talking like this.
sydandtaytum but she wasn’t. Your problem is that you’re taking your personal hurt and generalizing other people with that same lens. Nobody is dismissive of what you go through but you shouldn’t go about your whole life being up In Arms about an individual who wore a dress with no disrespect, and honestly with a majority of people who didn’t have a problem with it. Some did but a lot of Asians defended her right to wear it. You can feel the way you feel but look at yourself. Look how angry you are. Look how racially charged your comments are. You speak of ignorance but clearly you haven’t been outside of where you lived or cared to see how other humans are outside your racist bubble so all YOU see is the trash you live around. Your PERSONAL feelings are not law. Your PERSONAL pain shouldn’t dictate how you THINK not KNOW how other people perceive cultures. Same for me. you said it yourself people are different outside of where I live but that SAME THOUGHT goes for you. But you immediately paint non Asians with this racist brush if they say or do anything about asian culture. I don’t see it like that. You just said other asian Americans have faced jokes at the hands of those kids. You mean that girl specifically? Did she tape her eyes back? Did she do Ching Chong jokes? your accusing someone of stuff that you FEEL not know That they did because of how you personally feel people who look like them MIGHT behave. You have a lot of hate in your heart and no room for empathy or inclusiveness. You’ve commented so many ones on this channel about your personal pain and that sucks but at a certain point if you hate where you live, how you’ve been treated, what goes on your area, your only basing life in that small world. When you say I have zero clue about culture awareness to a guy that has DEFINITELY been in the front lines of racial issues, travelled The world, and have been around more people/ human experiences than you, I think your accusations are baseless and motivated by hate. Wipe your tears. Stop painting every white person or non asian with a racist brush. Stop looking for reasons to be divisive and angry. Take your OWN advice and look outside your bubble for perspective. Get out of your shit town if you can OR be the change you want to see.
@@DavidSoComedy you got me pegged all wrong david. i've traveled all over the world. i have been an activist for years now, not for asian issues, but for immigrants rights (specifically DACA) and for blm. i spent this democratic primary trying to get the only candidate who actually supported MLK in his time elected. i knocked on thousands of doors talking to people. if anything, all i have is empathy for those different than me or i wouldn't be spending all my time fighting for equality and justice for the disenfranchised. half my conversations with my therapist is about not getting jaded so i can keep up with activism and not stop and just look the other way. i actually loved your podcast you did on BLM (episode 154). i even shared that with people and praised you in the comments. what i cannot understand is how you can have so much empathy and understanding for the black community but turn around and do the opposite for the asian-american community. telling me to move out of a red state and that will somehow change things and i won't be angry about racism anymore is really silly. that's like telling black people in the south to move out as if you can geographically run away from racism. as if portland, one of the most left cities in the u.s., isn't also breeding ground for the kkk. perhaps racism against asians is more subtle and less physical so you don't see the harm. it is a scary time for asian-americans due to being blamed for covid and trump escalating trade wars with china. what happened with trump shutting down the chinese consulate is very notable and unprecedented. moves like this is the way racism took hold in the mainstream, not just in nazi germany, but here in the states, when japanese internment camps started. this isn't the time to say 'racist jokes dont bother me if the context is ok.' even if you feel that way, realize your platform is big and your sway is enormous. you can keep that to yourself and it would be a lot less harmful. as for the prom girl, i feel sorry for her in that she was a teenager and teenagers do dumb shit all the time. (she was bowing doing prayer hands, which is part of what set off the online backlash). the conversation should've not attacked her personally but been more around racism against asian-americans, and the harm it does in dehumanizing and 'othering' asians-americans. the reaason i am passionate on this specific thing is because as an asian-american, i cannot walk into a room of strangers and not get asked 'where are you from?' it may be innocent on its face, but it is a constant reminder to me that i am an 'other'. if i say 'texas', then the next question is, 'where are you REALLY from?' i have spent my life in the united states but i dont get seen as american. this is a deep trauma for lots of asian-americans and the wound is reopened over and over again for a lifetime. stuff like the chinese prom dress adds to the pile of 'othering' us and making us into foreigners when we are not. ...so again, on its face, not such a big deal, but then when a president decides to turn asians into scapegoats, it is now in the american collective unconscious that asians are foreigners and not to be trusted. the reason jews were treated as subhuman started with 'othering' them. it didn't happen overnight. it was a long running racist joke and undertone of society that got them to concentration camps. ...i hope that explains it better for you. i have been following you for a long time, david. i hope you take what i say into consideration. you are right that i am angry. i hope to use that anger in the right ways to fight injustice. i did not mean to tear you down. i just really got increasingly mad listening to you defend racist jokes.
sydandtaytum then you got me pegged wrong too and we can agree to disagree. You be active in the way you are and I’ll do it the way I’ve been doing it. Right on.
I feel like you both make valid points and perhaps the wording on both ends were just a bit strong. If this episode has made you realise that David So’s views on these specific matters do not align with you, then I think it might be a sign that you should also try looking for an Asian American influencer to look up to in someone else. I think it’s quite hard to find any one role model whose views will perfectly match and agree to yours, and this applies to everyone not just Asian American viewers. In saying this, I don’t think we can invalidate sydanstaytum’s personal experiences on this matter. I’m going to preface this by saying I actually don’t really know much about this story of the white girl wearing a Chinese prom dress, and I’m just going to say my thoughts on appropriation of Asian culture in countries like America and Australia. As an Asian Australian woman I can definitely relate to sydandtaytum’s sentiment that when I was growing up, my Asian food, music, clothes/style and mannerisms were belittled and made to feel different, disgusting and/or ugly. Yes, the ones who did the bullying tended to be white girls and I’ve had the joy of seeing these same girls go into uni and start donning a chopstick in their hair or wearing a qipao knowing very well they did shit all (no) research into the culture and were most likely starting to use Asian clothing because it was trendy but with no real intention of studying the culture or country of origin. The number of clothing stores online where I’ve seen them making a slutty Chinese dress or a slutty kimono dress and name them ‘flowy Asian-style dress’ or calling a goddam Chinese dress a ‘kimono’, yea it might be silly to get personally upset by it, but it still leaves a distaste in my mouth at the lack of respect and commercialisation of only one very narrow aspect of Asian culture, while reducing the rest of the culture as ‘too foreign’ to be authentically American/Australian. I think a lot of the hurt lies in the fact that society seems to pick and choose very specific things about our Asian culture that they deem acceptable and cool, but the other stuff that isn’t trendy is somehow too foreign that some people go so far as to see it as an insult to American/Australian culture directly. Now this is a generalisation and I know there are just as many white people who are incredibly open minded and many who would commit time into researching cultures - there are at the same time shiiitheads who have made generations of first/second/third/etc wave Asian immigrants feel ashamed of their heritage and this is a real lived experience. I don’t really have any point to make, there’s good and bad eggs in every corner of this world, of every race and religion, and If a group of people take offence to something then they should be able to raise it and let’s try to have a discussion and understand each other a bit better. That white girl isn’t going to understand the trauma an Asian American has gone through and therefore their negative reaction to the dress, but at the same time, we don’t understand what that white girl’s sentiments in wearing the dress was, for all we know she might have liked how it looks and had no malice in her actions.
If you guys can’t tell the difference between Juice WRLD and other rappers then y’all need to listen to Mike Sherm and MemoTheMafioso. Now those two and a bunch of other less known rappers have the same flow and sound the same.
Lol how the hell do they not... production the same... song songy rap cadence the same. They both hyper enunciate their words the same. Lyrics very similar. I don’t understand how anyone can make an argument that they are distinctly different. They are very similar lol. That’s not old head shit that’s an observation. I’m not saying their music is terrible I’m saying it,s HYPER similar.
@@DavidSoComedy I don't care for either, but they both have very different cadences and Juice sings like he's in a 2003 pop punk band. Juice is way closer to post malone than lil uzi

david you better keep them damn shoes on lol
Miss them long socks with the slippers look lol
In his old podcast setup he once kicked up his feet on the table and it took up 1/3 of the camera! 🤣🤣

David can't tell the difference between lil uzi and lil pump.... yes David, you're old...
You an old head David. How do Lil Uzi Vert and Juice Wrld sound the same :I
Lol how the hell do they not... production the same... song songy rap cadence the same.
David I love you, but uzi, juice world, and Lil pump don’t sound the same 😂
But I get what your saying
Second😄
