  • After quite a lot of back-and-forth thinking of putting a new tent in the trailer or on top of the 4Runner, I decided to pull the trigger on putting a roof top tent on top of my 4Runner. After a couple phone calls and one day of running around, I had my new rack installed and new tent above it, it’s time for some new content and a new way of camping.
Thanks to ‪@westcottdesigns‬ and ‪@rackattack‬ in Phoenix!

I've had my Skycamp Mini 3.0 since August 2022. With the exception of the mattress, I absolutely LOVE it. Quality materials and great construction.
I've been through two very bad storms and didn't have a single problem.

Sold my Airstream Basecamp 16x and believe I will pull the trigger on the 3.0 for my army green tundra pro. Beautiful setup you have and would love to have the 4Runner to match.

Great video. Thanks. I was a Tepui/Thule RTT owner for two years and loved it but I recently switched to the Ikamper mini 3.0 and it's a whole different level of RTT camping. I move everyday and mere minutes for set up and tear down has saved me time and ease - especially in the cold. I know people will say it only takes a little longer for a Tepui tent to set up and tear down - I was one of them but the truth is - it doesn't compare. At All. Full Stop. Another reason I love the iKamper is being able to leave my pillows, sleeping bag and some gear inside the tent while closed. My only gripe is the mattress. As a side sleeper it is not good however nor was the Tepui so I use an Exped air mattress on top of the mattress. I may switch over to the iKamper air mattress if I ever get an opportunity to try one first as they're are expensive.

I’m a side sleeper and I thought my Tepui had a slightly more comfortable mattress. All and all I’m really happy with the Ikamper.

@@ScrambleNorth That is true with most Tepui tents with the exception of the Low-Pro model which I owned. Due to their compactness and lightweight, their mattresses were only 1.5" thick.

Do either of you get condensation under your mattress of choice? Also would it be worth it to open the rainfly and get the condensation off before packing it up?

Hello, I was wondering how many inches of usable space is there if you were to put your rooftop tent all the way forward or all the way back on your roof rack.

I had ikamper mini 2.0 and used to keep that rainfly rolled up all the time
and used it only when it rained.
Makes going in and out little easier, no need to deal with pole to set up rainfly - it was overall much simpler.
I just wish that front door rolls down/ not up.

What a game changer, it’s great rolled up!

What holds the fold out platform up? Just the ladder? I'm a pretty heavy guy at 278 and that makes me wonder how it would handle me and my wife up there? Thoughts?

Yes, the ladder. But all the weight is typically on the vehicle,

I think I like this tent. First thing is to get a roof rack like that. Maybe a Sherpa.

It’s not a bad tent at all aside from the things I mentioned. Their customer service however, is terrible

Hi, did they need to use risers to mount on the low pro Westcott rack? I have the same rack and considering the Ikamper.

    • @ScrambleNorth
      @ScrambleNorth  ปีที่แล้ว

It’s hard, you have to mount the rails to the tent and then bolt the rails back to the rack.

It’s just so damned expensive for what you get. It’s slick and sleek, deploys fast but the mattress is a joke. I can’t see paying $3600 to then have to pay to upgrade the mattress, upgrade this and that. I’m a side sleeper so I went with the Roam vagabond, it’s 4.5” wider, has a 4” mattress, condensation mat etc. I got the vestibule, low temp liner, and mattress sheet for I dunno, camp pad for $2650. Not as sexy, but we’ll see. Nice setup man…
