  • As many know, I specialize in medical cannabis and happen to be one of the few board certified pediatricians in the country who specialize in pediatric medical cannabis. In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, I want to respond to a question I am often asked - "Can medical cannabis help people on the autism spectrum?" Join me in today's episode to find out!

    As a person who lives, and worked 40 years as a medical professional, with autism, being able to dial down that relentless firehose of stimuli has the ability to offer a freedom of choice of thought, not easily achieved otherwise. This freedom, in turn offers alternative to many distracting, self destructive, short term foci. It i s not being a 'couch' potato, rather don't want to feel like I'm playing mental 'Hot Potato'!

    It has been helping me with my social difficulties, for 30 years now!!!
    I was once on Klonopin. Since the vape pens have been around, I've been able to switch, as it allows me to take a small dose, without commiting a joint's worth to the flame, I've been able to leave the Klonopin behind. I was put on the Klonopin BECAUSE the doctors saw pot as dangerous, but had no problem shoving PHYSICALLY ADDICTIVE anxiolytics, down my throat.

    Our son who used to have seizures daily, high anxiety and autistic who can't read or write. He was taking upwards of 15 different medications a day. We've had him on a full spectrum cbd for 3 years and I can't remember the last time he had a seizure. His anxiety levels dropped tremendously. He's now a volunteer firefighter, bagger and stocker at a local grocer. Works with the local sheriff's office on occasion and helps deliver food to people of need throughout the community. I'm telling everyone that this has totally changed his life...oh and he's down to 3 medications also. CBD works!!

    I noticed this when I was 14, unfortunately that has turned into a life of crime and living a double life lying to everyone I care about to avoid being tortured by society. If there wasn't so much stigma around this plant, this research would have gone so much further allowing us all to live normal lives.

    I read a study a couple of days ago testing the effects of CBDV in autistic people. It was a small study, but it showed some interesting results. I love my autistic brain, and I would not take a “cure” if one existed. That said, I welcome anything in within reason that helps to alleviate the negative effects autism has. I was a medical card holder in Florida until I moved up north a couple of years ago. I’m now back in Florida and considering getting back in the registry. I personally do not like the feeling I get from thc most of the time, but I have also read some promising results from studies looking at the effects of micro dosing thc along with “normal” macro doses of CBD during waking hours, and CBD with cbg before bed. I also suffer with horrific nightmares from PTSD and cannabis is the only thing that has helped with those at all. I think I’m going to give it another go and try the micro dosing regimen. If you get the chance, I would love to see a video about that as well as CBDV. If nothing else, it’s an interesting read.

      @charlesxavier7146 - thanks for reaching out. We source our cannabis products from Myriams Hemp - who does quality testing on each batch. You are welcome to use our affiliate promo code to get a discount on their products. The promo code is: wholistic
      Since you are back in Florida, we would be happy to work with you at our cannabis clinic in Tampa, if you are interested. We have successfully treated many patients who have autism or other neurodiverse conditions. You can learn more about our clinic at
      WholisticReLeaf.com.
      I am also curious if you have ever done other functional medicine testing and treatments that could help the negative effects of autism?

    I have always had a problem with insomnia. Since self discovery I found out why. Rather than putting up with sleep walking and suicide ideology. I take a hundred milligrams of THC oil two hours before bed and I sleep like a baby. The effect when you eat is that it is a totally different drug all together than when smoked or vaped. I used to smoke but I had to give up the high because they say that I have COPD, after smoking a pack a day for forty three years. You seem to be of the opinion that eating and smoking/vaping gives the same effect. You are dead wrong, I assure you!!!!

      @davestambaugh7282 - Hi Dave, Thanks for your comments, and I am happy to hear that you found a solution for you.
      I've never believed that inhalation and oral consumption work the same way. I teach the opposite every day in my clinic, and have stated so on this TH-cam channel many times. If I said anything that made you think to the contrary that was a mistake. If I did misspeak, please share where in the video that occurred so I can put a correction in the video description. Thanks!

    • @DrDavidMD
      @DrDavidMD  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @benbruce7105 - HI! We are located in Tampa, FL.
      By law, we are only able to certify cannabis patients who reside in Florida. We do that through our family medical cannabis clinic, Wholistic ReLeaf - wholisticreleaf.com. I also see patients there in my primary care practice Wholistic Pediatrics & Family Care - wholisticfamilycare.com.
      I am, however, able to consult with cannabis patients anywhere in the world through my education and consultation offering (I just can't be the ordering physician) - drdavidmd.com
      If you contact my office (contact info is on the practice website), they can direct you to the right person.
      Hope that helps! 🙂

    Whats the name of this cannabis oil? Is Epidolox (sezuires) the same as this or does it help autism too?

    • @DrDavidMD
      @DrDavidMD  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @khadijaissa7866 - Hi! There are many different cannabis products that can help people with autism. I don't make generalized recommendations because each person is so different, and it's important that I learn about the patient in order to give them options and point them in a good directions. If you wish, you can schedule a consultation either through my Tampa-based family medical cannabis clinic (if you are a Florida resident) -- WholisticReLeaf.com -- or nationwide/globally through my education company -- DrDavidMD.com. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful here!

    THC can actually negatively impact other drugs an autistic person has likely been prescribed! It can make some drugs totally ineffective. We've seen an increase in anxiety, lack of impulse control, discouragement and OCD increase because the prescribed drugs to help with those things were being compromised by THC. Be very, very careful with ANY amounts of THC used when trying to reduce symptoms that often accompany Autism. You could makes things much worse.

    • @MichaelAngst

      Sounds like they need to be off of those other drugs and possibly on cannabis only?

      Actually since eliminating the THC and allowing CBD along with low doses of the prescribed meds he is now enjoying a very stable and joyful disposition, self-regulating very well, growing in character and no longer becoming violent or destructive for almost a year now. He's also been reintegrating socially and taking better care of himself. There are other factors as well that stabilised around him that helped a lot.
      But the THC is out. Never going there again.
      What's your experience with raising an autistic male with a speech disorder and a high baseline anxiety?

      I'm curious now, what's your experience been with THC? How much do you smoke? (If you still do) Do you medicate in other ways, pharma or otherwise?
      My son, 20 years old now, was having auditory hallucinations, experiencing paranoia, became agoraphobic, except when he wanted to go beat up "the neighbours" he was hearing, had to be restrained and sedated during violent meltdowns, broke walls, railings, windows, personal items, etc. and, as mentioned before, has been able to self regulate and enjoy himself, going out in public and making friends.
      His baseline anxiety is still uncomfortable for him and he would be grateful for even more help.
      We're cautiously looking into psilocybin but have some legit concerns.
      What has helped you? Your insights are welcome.
