I just got endoscopy and colonoscopy a few hours ago. The night before I was overthinking about being put to sleep and not waking up. From someone who suffers from anxiety, the experience wasn’t scary! I was really nervous at the hospital and told them about it. But the nurses and doctors provide you with reassurance. I would recommend taking anaesthesia as it calms you down or prevents you from having memories of the process. Don’t overthink about the anaesthesia!! Didn’t get it done with this facility but I just got an endoscopy done this afternoon and I’d like to share my experience Incase some of you are freaking out like I was the last week. Everything up until the anesthesia is you’re basic check in and questions so the part that you’ve been dreading doesn’t start right away 😂 once they had me ready they took me back and started the sedation and honestly I didn’t even remember going out. I remember being fully conscious and coherent thinking “I don’t feel a thing “ and then all the sudden I woke up in another room. It’s kinda a surreal experience it was almost like teleportation because that literally how fast that felt . One second i was talking to the doc about the cruise he’s taking next week and all then sudden boom in in another room. Completely painless and all my fears were for nothing . If you’re worried about it or going under anesthesia for the first time like I was , it was a breeze . 0 anxiety once they injected me it was almost instantly that it disappeared. Hope this helped !

I've had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done 10 years ago but I avoided doing it for 6 years, any other treatment but these. Eventually I had no other option but to do it. What the heck was I so worried about! As I went in for treatment to get them both done at the same time I lay on the bed they ask me to count back from 10, and within 3 seconds I'm sound asleep, after the procedure I wake up feeling so good, so happy, peaceful. They give me some food and drink and I go home. 🙂

I literally had one today at another facility. It was so intense and invasive. The sedative was not even through the IV tube before they started. I have been suffering from digestive / gut issue for as long as i remember. Years back my doctor referred me to take endoscopy to find out what really is the issue because it keeps coming back. I was scheduled already and waiting for my turn, when suddenly my doctor had to undergo emergency to other patient and I was asked to wait for few hours until he finishes... Because i was having anxiety and super nervous, i took it as a chance to run away. Until now did not get it done because of my anxiety. but my gut issue just got worse and I'm scared it could be something serious. And im here checking how others may explain or share the experience. I am having anxiety not just because of the procedure but in general I always get so scared of having to experience something I know will hurt or give pain.
Guys I'm going to have a endoscopy soon for bariatric surgery, plz someone give me advice I'm not terrified of the procedures themselves but the anesthesia and not waking back up
Anesthesia has come a very long way and can be very easily catered to the needs of each individual patient. Sure, it can still happen but is it likely? Very unlikely. I say take the time to learn as much about it as possible so you get comfortable with the idea of going under. Knowledge is power. Best of luck to you!
The chances on you not waking up here and waking up in another realm is extremely low. I chose no sedation because I wanted to see what the doctor was seeing. Same for my colonoscopy. I recommend sedation for the endo, not because of any pain, but due to the crazy feeling and gagging. If I have to do it again, I will go to sleep.

Yes you definatly dhould I think edpecially if its not been done in a hospital setting where there's intensive care there apt to err on side of caution in case it goes wrong becausevof issues moving domrone by ambulance when domething gone wrong plus I think staff in hospitals are more caring and used to dealing eith as ive learnt in last few tears severely mentally ill like me they knewcid anxity issues but my mouth wasent sprayed if they had I would have remembered that and granted it was in bits but I remember them putting tube down and then I blacked out so I don't know what pain I felt I just frlt trapped and wanted out this time if I had one I eould say before hand I want to hold your wrist and if I want y9u to stop i will squeeze your wrist and will want you yo syop and if they say of course there names and what thed said would be written down as evidence
My uncle had a part of his stomach cut during the procedure … he knew something wasn’t right after pooping blood for a few days they had to go back in and stitch him up 😢
Are needles involved??
I,m having my endoscopy tmrw cnt slp at Somerset hispt..Cape Town
I have to have one because of my maternal grandfather Papa Carlyle passing away from stage 4 stomach and esophageal cancer back in 2010 at just 70. .
Sorry for your loss
Honestly, the day after was the worst part of the experience for me. My throat, upper back and chest hurt like hell it was awful. The actual procedure though is pretty ok though👍
Mines hurting now as well and it’s the next day!
I literally had one today at another facility. It was so intense and invasive. The sedative was not even through the IV tube before they started. I encouraged not to fight the doctor and to just let him force the tube down my throat. I came here to see if this experience was what should have happened. I’m so saddened this happened to me in this manner, as it certainly doesn’t appear to be the experience that should have occurred
I know when I had mine in 2016 it 2asent as it should have been I know gor sure they used no throat spray they gave me midazapan but I'd had it for voloniscopy and that was great I must have been partly sedated they put something in my mouth but didn't tell me what the mouth piece was for it was jydt a case if open your mouth plus I realised eith ut in you vouldnt close your mouth they didn't tell ne how to ket them no I wanted them to stop I can't say it hurt it just felt odd scary but it must have made a impact on me because I've tummy ussues but go's are trying yo sort it eithout resirting to endoscopy but this time I would say I want better sedation than that id ssy can I have fenetonol or larazapan I know that sedated me I hated ward meeting when I was in mental health unit and they gave me yoo laraxapans which was too much I was under weight butvi remember nothing at all of ward round they gave up in end took me back yo my room had to physically help me get undressed I fifnt know relative who came yo be eith ne for ward round I'd gone home I slept while teatime had my tea fell back asleep in loungexwhile sipper had bed meds and went back yo sleep so that would be okay I'd prefer general but if they eont do sny of that well no endoscopy fill stop
Having mine next Friday I’m still terrified lol
Surgery next Thursday morning
mine is tomorrow too
How'd it go?
@@mariahgriffin2146 How did it went?
I go on the 17 th of May not looking forward to it 😰🙏💖🇬🇧
I live in NJ and we don't have a video like this for patients.
How long is it
About 20 minutes my dr said
I have been suffering from digestive / gut issue for as long as i remember.
Did you go back to get your endoscopy done? If so, how did it go. I asking because I'm nervous about getting one done
Guys I'm going to have a endoscopy soon for bariatric surgery, plz someone give me advice I'm not terrified of the procedures themselves but the anesthesia and not waking back up
me to omg mines next week
@@lifeasreese how was it
Anesthesia has come a very long way and can be very easily catered to the needs of each individual patient. Sure, it can still happen but is it likely? Very unlikely. I say take the time to learn as much about it as possible so you get comfortable with the idea of going under. Knowledge is power. Best of luck to you!
I had mine last week or 2 weeks ago and it was perfect
The chances on you not waking up here and waking up in another realm is extremely low. I chose no sedation because I wanted to see what the doctor was seeing. Same for my colonoscopy. I recommend sedation for the endo, not because of any pain, but due to the crazy feeling and gagging. If I have to do it again, I will go to sleep.
i got one because i got a food bolus impaction that was really stuck
I've have it today and I pull the endoscopy camera from my mouth..I was vomiting and I didant have enough oxygen..I've been traumatised
I’m absolutely horrified of my endoscopy I have tomorrow I have an extreme fear of needles it’s not the procedure I’m scared of it’s the stupid needle ahhh
literally me bruh i hage mine tmr 😭
@@cayci3509 How did it go for yall? I am also extremely anxious of needles and have mine in august.
Hey they can go down any day but no going up !
The first endoscopy I had was when I was 16….that was literally the worst experience in my life cause it was done without anesthesia
Well that's not good to hear cause I'm getting one soon
Why ?
I just had it done today and it was simple.
@@mommaofboys8180 Did it hurt? Did you feel it in your stomach? Were you gagging or trying hard to not to?
@@lisasmith8272 I felt nothing. I was asleep. Even that even I had no discomfort at all. The worst part was the prep. I had a colonoscopy at the same time. I wouldn’t have noticed that they did biopsy’s if the dr hadn’t told us.
3 years ago I had a tubal litigation. When I was extubated my throat closed up and they think I had a layrngospasm.. a few months after that I found out I have lingual tonsil hypertrophy, that also could have caused it... now i have narrowing of my esophagus and have to have an endoscopy and I fear I'm going to die because of my expierence any tips or anything? I'm so anxious I can't get off Google.. I think I have to say extra i love yous to my children because I don't think I'll make it out😭😭
Anxiety can really freak us out and have us OVER think and over analyze. I have to get an endoscopy done too (my 2nd one) I am nervous too, but those are JUST thoughts. Talk to your Dr, don’t be afraid to ask questions and get comfortable. the first one went extremely well for me. I got both endo and colonoscopy at the same time. It was relaxing and I was FINE. You will be too. ❤️❤️ BREATHE AND RELAX. They do this everyday
Charlee’s Channel it's just so scary because of my expierence. Thankyou
@@charleeschannel4841 wish I had known i could have both at the same time. Now I know. Thanks
@@melissabrill8367 mate, how did it go?
@jdm6613 supposted to be Friday but had to reschedule I'm pretty sick 😞
Im scared... I already suffer from Anxiety..... : (
DO NOT BE ,I heard doing it with out IV sedation ,will only cause minimal discomfort ,not pain ,as for doing it under IV sedation like I did for first time in my life ,it's like having picnic in the park ,and I bet my anxiety is much higher than yrs , still ,experience was EASY ,QUICK AND ENJOYABLE ACTUALLY.
Same I’m literally in tears just watching this right after I got otp with the clinic doing this endoscopy on me telling me ima be asleep and I’m super anxious already. I’m scared of the sedation and being put to sleep bc I’ve never had that done before. Can you pls tell me how it went for you?😢
@@chelseabvbyI am too right now :(. I have one tomorrow. Did it go well????
They knocked my tooth lose 😬
Oh my gosh. I have a endoscopy Sept 15th. Hope they don't mess my teeth up.
Oh my goodness 😰🙏💖🇬🇧
I think I would rather be having a gastroenterologist.
No biggie. They will put you “out” via sedation (I had Propofol & Versed) and you’ll have zero memory of the actual procedure. I remember just prior to the anesthetic and next thing I knew I was conscious & taking to my wife.
I beg anyone who needs to have it to get sedated, it was the worst experience of my life
why? i have my first one in 10 days
@@JohnQPublic345 how was it, Lumburgh? I go on Monday. Scared to death.
@@kimwarner1681 easy. You go in. Remove shirt and get into gown.
They roll you into op room. They sedate you so fast, you fall asleep in seconds. Wake up in recovery area. That simple

I won’t have to have a colonoscopy til I’m 45 that’s 3 years from now
I'm 32 and am getting one this year
If you are not removing polyp then why do you put us under and not twilight?
To cover their backs. If they mess up or say anything inappropriate while we’re under, we won’t know.
No its because if you are not under deep enough and awake during the procedure, it can cause injury while the doctor is performing the procedure
@@mmb1572 it’s that and what I said lol
Me too
😃
Whats wrong with all this ladys so scare and have so much anxiety 😂😂😂
Yep, never getting any of these “procedures done “
Way too risky and way to many doctors doing a ton of these a day all at your risk. These soothing videos are so you don’t say no and make the doctors and hospitals rich. Screw them. That consent form screws yoy when the puncture you.
