Richie was the number 1 hurler in the world when on song from 2011 to 2016. Never waited for anyone to win ball for him. At 5'7" his ability to emerge out of a cluster of 6 footers with sliothar ina lámh was mesmerising and usually finished with a score taken by the deftest flick of his wrists that made it all look so simple. When Kilkenny were on the backfoot you saw him come to the fore when others went missing and this ability to drag both team and individuals back into it marked him out as one of the greatest of all time to play the game of hurling. His artistry will be sadly missed.

Richie Hogan was the most influential hurler in Ireland in that 2014-16 period. Callanan was best inside forward and TJ was unbelievable too but Richie was the top all round hurler in the country in that period, was scary good.

It's simple, Kilkenny had Richie Hogan and Padraig Walsh on the sideline in this years all Ireland while their halfforward line was absent??
    What's going on??

Whilst I think Richie deserved a red card for his head high challenge on Cathal Barrett there is a part of me that feels very sorry for him because he took a desperate head charge in the qtr final v Cork but got up after about 10secs. Meanwhile the Cork perpetrator stayed on the ground for an age getting 'medical treatment'. As is usually the case the hue of the aggressor's sanction transitioned from 'red' to 'yellow' because Richie became upright far quicker than the Cork player. Richie then got a clip from Cathal Barrett but got up much quicker than when the roles were reversed some minutes later.

Kilkenny should not have been in the 2016, 2019 and 2023 All Ireland finals. I would have preferred to see KK play Limerick in the 2020 semi final as Leinster finalists to Galway and again meet Limerick in the 2021 semi final, whether or not they would have won doesn't matter I think KK would have beaten them with Brian Cody in 2022 in his last year, ifs buts and maybes however 😒
