This is the first of your videos that I’ve seen and I’m subscribing to your channel. I love the way you patiently developed the tree and how you edited a year’s worth of progression so we can watch it develop in one video. I like that much better than someone working in one session then they never give an update so we are left to wonder what happened, how it turned out, what worked and didn’t work. Excellent job styling your tree!
I really enjoyed this video. I liked how you took us through the several phases. I feel like I’m on a similar journey with my trees. Being very new to this hobby, I appreciate those who are putting themselves out there on video so that I can benefit from their examples and their trees so thanks again.
Thank you! I am thoroughly enjoying your channel. You are so relatable; the trials, errors and joys of bonsai. Lol, didn't notice the "bed head hair" until you said Nigel. I can't watch his stuff, he's too distracting. Ben, you have been added to my subscriptions! Thanks again
I love the natural vibe of your videos! Seems real and relatable and obtainable. Telling us you're cheap and have fears and pumping yourself up. "Be bold". Love it. Only small thing is to maybe stick to one song or have some transitions between songs. It feels like another video has started or like an ad has started when I looked away. Nice vids!
I just recently bought my first Juniper Shimpaku, after looking into Shimpaku I found out that’s it’s somewhat of an umbrella name for junipers, so I’m not sure exactly what kind of juniper I have. But it looks almost exact as yours but the color on the trunk on mine is a bit redder. It’s also my first pricier tree, and I haven’t began styling it either lol. Thanks for this upload and I look forward to your progress videos!
Hopefully someone can answer this. In your area you have these small needles pines. I only have seen them around Bremerton, not further South. I asked my stepson and he seemed shocked to find out he lived in Washington. No one I asked had a clue. I believe they are this big guys behind your yard. Thank you
First video i seen from you and i rally got exited from the material you got but ended up desepointed. There are so much examples on TH-cam what you could do with it and specially how and in my eyes it ended up kinda like a garden bonsai. I seem harsh but I would really love to see you try harder and get that wire on there to really develop the branches and the pads. Again I'm sorry if I seem harsh
I'm ok with it for now, its finally in refinement from development, so there will be time to improve it with the yrs to come. I'm not Bjorn, or Mauro. They've been doing bonsai for decades so I would never compare myself to them. I'm happy with the direction its going and its a process for me rather than a one day demo
As Peter Chen would say, don’t worry about what others say, Bonsai is supposed to be for your enjoyment. Some of the classical aspects is what turns people away from Bonsai. It should be more open and fun. Not stressful or some unattainable art that only the masters can influence on other. Bonsai is about experimenting and your own learning experience, and what works in Japan doesn’t always work depending on the climate you’re in around the world.
@@JAMES-dv5ns i live in a colder climate so i can say climate has nothing to do with styling a tree, just saying :) Climate only hase influence on how fast it grows and health depends on how much you can do with. And its allways about fun with everything you do if its bonsai or other hobby's.
@@BenBSeattle great respons, you do what you do to where you are comfortable with i absolutely have no problem with that. I don't known why but i just felt you have the experience to go further. I have seen more of your videos and I like your channel, the speed your going ,addeting and speech. I should have added that the last time, sorry for that.
Cairo It greatly influences the use of soil, depending on climate. Yes climate can inflict the styling of the tree especially if you live in a area where there is /isn’t a large window for dormancy. Also root regeneration plays a big role in climate and the soil type you use
Glad you showed the failed air layers. Makes it all the more relatable
Bravo Ben
Love your birthday tree! Your patience and professionalism paid off! Lovely tree. Thank you from your new fan from Florida 🐊🌴🦩😎
That's a really solid styling. Made the most of the tree in my opinion - it's a quality piece now

That's a beautiful tree Ben. I can only imagine the adrenaline that raced through you when you first got it.

Good job Ben. I like the movement on your tree and your design looks beautiful
Good looking tree. I’m new to bonsai and I appreciate how you detail the decision making when styling your tree.
