    Recipe:
    8 cups water
    1 lb dry navy beams, rinsed and picked through
    1 tbsp olive oil
    6 oz bacon, cut into small pieces
    1 medium onion (I used 3/4 of a large red onion)
    1 1/2 cups water, divided. (Use left over bean cooking water)
    1/2 cup ketchup
    1/4 cup molasses
    1 tbsp brown sugar
    1 tsp yellow prepared mustard
    2 tbsp maple syrup ( I added 4 more tbsp)
    2 tsp apple cider vinegar
    1/4 tsp black pepper
    1 1/2 tsp salt
    (Optional: I started adding a large green pepper, love it more)
    Directions:
    step 1:
    Combine water and beans in an instant pot. Close lid and select pressure cook setting. Set timer for 15 minutes.
    Step 2:
    Release pressure using the natural-release method for 20 minutes; then quick release the remaining pressure according to manufacturer's directions. Remove lid. Drain and reserve the bean cooking liquid. Rinse and wipe out the instant pot.
    Step 3:
    Turn on instant pot and select saute setting. Add olive oil When instant pot is hot, add onions and fry for 2 minutes. Add bacon and cook another couple of minutes. Pour in 1/2 cup of bean liquid and scrape any brown bits off the bottom. Turn instant pot off.
    Step 4:
    Whisk together ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, black pepper & salt. Return beans to instant pot and add 1 cup of bean liquid and the ketchup mixture. Gently stir. Close lid and set instant pot to pressure cooking setting. Set timer for 35 minutes.
    Step 5:
    Release pressure using the natural release method for 20 minutes. Then quick release remaining pressure. Remove lid. Beans will thicken upon cooling. Serve immediately or freeze portions for later.

    Want to enhance this recipe even more? Saute Green Pepper with the onions, which I always added to my canned bean recipe with bacon. Made it first the recipe way and was very good but adding green pepper took it over the top. Hubby agreed it was yummy having 3 bowls.

    Just tried this recipe in 8Qt IP. Taste is wonderful. However, I wasn't able to cook the second half of the pressure time, the beans burned to the pot and the IP stopped. I pulled them out into a bake dish and they really would have been complete mush had they pressure cooked another 35 minutes PLUS 20 min natural release. Again, happy with taste and can pull this together much quicker without the other 55 minutes of cook time. Thanks.

    Terrific looking recipe. I have mixed everything up in a Dutch oven and baked until done (watching the water) and have been really pleased.
    About the only change I'll make to this recipe is to convert all those measuring units to grams and just weight the ingredients. I'm lazy and really don't want to have to wash all those measuring items.
    Thanks for the recipe.

    I I tried to make the bean but when I put the beans and liquid and molasses mixture the pot said burn I cleaned it once there was nothing sticking on the pot and it said burn again.what did I do wrong. I just cooked the bean in my oven.

    • @2roosterfarm577
      @2roosterfarm577  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The burn message usually comes up when there are burned bits on the bottom so I’m not sure the reason. Maybe a faulty instant pot. I had to return one because of that as well.

    • @gracielou4075
      @gracielou4075 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was having burn message after burn message. I thought I was doing everything right. Turns out for me my I.P. was leaking steam from the valve that wasn’t seated correctly. Once I fixed that it worked fine. Before that I was getting Burn message on everything. After fixing it I tried cooking rice and it was fine. Also any dishes after that.

    • @richardgoeltz3769
      @richardgoeltz3769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made the recipe again but I violated the “scientific method” by changing 2 variables. First, I soaked the beans overnight and second, I doubled the recipe. The IP’s “burn” warning appeared. I’m finishing the cooking in a slow cooker. Now I know, I need to make 2 separate batches. Lesson learned.
