great videos! I was a 10 year old kid in 1990, drooling over these combines at farm shows. Love the JD FWD's running in their prime too. Love 8650's!

One of the advantages to a row crop bean head was speed! Could go as fast as you could stay on the row.

The 8820 and the 7720 JD combines to me where the most efficient, farmer friendly and built to last combines that JD ever made and then they went and broke the mold! Today's combines and other equipment is not farmer friendly nor is it built to last!

Yah we still have the 6620s on our farm

Well I think the sts series was a technology friendly machine then JD lost the American way of doing machines

We run a John Deere 9770 STS a John Deere 9600 and a John Deere 7720 Titan 2, all row crop dually tires, and those are all great combines

We run a 6620 and 7720 very good combines we do work on them a good amount but that’s because they’re older than dirt

Ran a 6 row, row crop bean head back in the 80's with a JD 7700. Could run faster than a platform header. Thought it was cool, because they were uncommon.

  • @donfrisch6437

those were good combines back in the day but now we will run more grain through S780in one year than a 9600 in five years so anyone saying the new combines ain’t built last don’t know what they’re talking about I think the new ones are awesome

    • @williamcorleu5839

They looked like corn heads but were actually different. Had rotary cutoff knives at the front of each row unit to shear the beansoff. Also used for harvesting sunflowers

9600 s were as reliable a header as you could buy, lacked capacity but they just ran day in day out.
