This is why I love this channel. An hour long video on socks. Such an under-emphasized part of a wardrobe. Love these long form garment-specific episodes
I just got my order from MCR today. I have never, ever before received a hand written thank you letter addressed to myself when I've ordered anything. While it's a small gesture in the grand scheme of things, I really, really appreciate this level of intent in doing business. Before I've even tried the socks, I'm impressed.
I did buy some weeks ago my first pairs of socks from Mes Chaussettes Rouges. No doubt, the quality is undoubtfully very good, but I was positively surprised by something else. With my first two pairs, I got a little handwritten note, welcoming me as a customer. This is something you won't get nowadays and what makes Mes Chaussettes Rouges so special.
I love their website and the products they sell. The craftsmanship of the artist that create the products they sell are on another level. I buy my socks from them exclusively and their customer service is top notch. They have sent out free pairs of socks after I wore a hole in a pair after first use with no issues and they even recommended socks to me based on my wear habit. Congrats on their success and thank you Hugo and Sonya for this excellent interview!
I became a customer of MCR about 3 months ago and they are so AMAZING with brands and selection of socks. I love the handwritten note I get from an order and the last time, a nice fragrance as well. It's truly an experience. I've started out with Bresciani and Mazarin and think they are amazing! I have over 200 pairs of socks in my Favorites list on their website. It's just crazy how super the socks are. I have several pairs from them and they are my first shop for them. I wish they had more silks as I want to buy some for more formal occasions but see that William Abraham, their more US-based site, has PLENTY of fantastic silk socks. And super-elegant cotton. Mostly 2x the cost of MCR. I like what you said Hugo and thought the same thing a while back.... These socks are a luxury item that are still quite affordable for most people. I love how the appreciation for clothing like these days is making the words elegant, affordable and quality more of a union instead of a choice.
I own Bresciani, Mazarin, Falke, Pantherella, and William Abraham socks. All great. You really can’t go wrong when it comes to material. Sure cashmere, vicuña, cervelt are more premium, rare, expensive etc but even the cotton/ “Fil D’ecosse is exquisite and you’re not paying hundreds of dollars. The only reason I’d decide on one brand over the other has to do with size and design.
I have been looking at there website for a month, looking for some new socks. The timing is amazing. The show fantastic as normal, I always look forward to every episode. I really need a glass of Chablis now too.
Mr. Jacomet, I posted on a previous video that I have always asked where the beginning is. I have found it. For someone that has slowly been climbing in quality clothing that I purchase(I started with cufflinks), this is a great place to begin. Inexpensive compared to other clothing items and such a great statement piece. This is the beginning. Thank you so much to all involved for this video. Now, to begin. Cheers!!
Fascinating, Hugo. This kind of video makes people appreciate the quality and care that go into a garment which is often overlooked in the sartorial repertoire. And best of all, you have helped us to choose better in future.
Dear Hugo, thank you for sharing the interesting story behind Mes Chaussettes Rouges and this very informative episode of Sartorial Talks. You have certainly piqued my interest. From a practical perspective, I am willing to spend more on socks for better quality. From an asthetic perspective, one can add flair to their attire with socks, and clearly, Mes Chaussettes Rouges makes that possible like no one else. When you mentioned that they spray Guerlain Habit Rouge on their red socks, you sealed the deal. Guerlain is my favorite designer house, and Habit Rouge is one of my favorite fragrances. I will consider investing in a pair of red socks, my favorite color and one of my favorite color socks to wear all year long, as well as the houndstooth and reversible socks with vertical stripes. Can you reply with the name of the reversible socks again? Last, thank you for teaching your viewers about over the calf socks. I absolutely want socks that stay in place. Your work is superb! Bravo! God bless you and your family.
Dear Hugo, thank you for this lovely video. I was glad to hear these two gentlemen speak. Their socks are terrific - lovely colors and patterns that enhance every outfit, and comfortable. Would you believe that your friend Justin FitzPatrick advised me to seek out Mes Chausettes Rouge when I bought my first pairs of shoes from him - doubling my elegance! Wonderful entry to a world of quality footwear. Best wishes - Blaine
Dear Blaine, I'm not surprised that my friend Justin (whom I know since 15 years) advised you to seek out for MCR (the sartorial world is a little club, and we all know each other quite well). Best regards, Hugo
This is a fantastic video - as all of yours are, Hugo and Sonya. I love the relaxed, laid-back style of your presentations, and your passion for clothing and elegance is clear to see! I shall definitely be upgrading my socks very, very soon too!
I’m french but what a pleasure to (re) watch this interview in English, this is such a great way to improve this language ! In addition, I’d lke to thanks Mr Jacomet for his wonderful work :)
Wonderful! When I first saw the video I was wondering how on earth can one talk for an hour about socks? Yet it was very interesting and the hour flew by! Thank you for your work Hugo and Sonia.
These guys really do make the best socks in the world. All of the socks I own are now from mes chaussettes rouge. Thank you for such a fascinating video! I like to know all of the details behind the clothes I wear.
Wow so great to learn about Gammarelli thanks. Traditional clergy look great in their clothing .Each single garment is prayed upon before it is worn, traditionally.
For all the years I’ve lived, a few decades I with interest I learned more about dress socks during this interesting interview than from anything else ever. I also visited the two of their websites that’s listed under the video description link and they are both fantastic websites with quite a wide variety of socks sizes, colorful patterns and various fabric socks. Far more than I’ve ever seen anywhere else. Dress Sock store for Men are really hard to find in the U.S. I do particularly like the French store and they ship to the U.S. which is great. Will be ordering from them certainly.
Hello Hugo, Another eye opening video for men style, clearly the passion you bring to this topic is contagious. Quite certain your fans are breaking new ground in terms of expanding and refining personal style and taste in men's apparel. You are truly the contemporary Jacques Cousteau of men style.

Another fantastic dialogue, Hugo. I have learned a lot from these dialogues you have hosted regarding the craftsmanship of burgundy wine, shoes, spectacles, and now socks. I would like to suggest you host a dialogue between yourself and Mr. and Mrs. Touhami, who are the creative forces behind the iconic French perfume house l'Officine Universelle Buly 1803. Many thanks for your kind words my friend. I don't know this couple of l'Officine Universelle Busy, but if the opportunity arises, we'll be happy to receive them at our table. Cheers, Hugo
"Spirituality in materialistic talk" I heard something like this first time. But Yes, I agreed if you go deep down in something fully with your senses, mind and soul you experiences is the same as the meditation. Like a musician, a scientist, a perfumer, a craftman or a devotee of god.
This is a great story. I have to track down a pair of these in all colors. Very cool for certain outfits and of course will have to wear a pair to Mass here in NYC.
This is one area where I think I can definitely do better. Thank you for the very useful video. I think I will try to find more wool socks, I find that cotton socks do not tend to last very long for me, so I want to try different kinds of fabric.
I love the stripe socks with a base colour of brown or black, and thin stripes the colour of the pants. My big toe eats socks, I an trying no-show sock foot covers inside socks as they are cheaper to replace than the socks. These socks are out of my range at $37 CND but I did enjoy the talk and will wash my socks inside out from now on. I tried female over the calf socks to see if I liked the height, Like Hugo, I loved the security of the socks not falling down.
Fascinating, thank you; it was a pleasure to listen to this discussion. Since I’m writing this the day before Christmas Eve, I have to ask if MCR is the exclusive supplier of warm, hard-wearing red socks to Santa Claus?! I expect so 😊. I don’t think I’ll be given any of these superb socks for Christmas, so shall be visiting the MCR website soon.
Dear Hugo and Sonya! I see that you read pretty much all the comments so I have a great chance to get an answer. I am struggling to remember Hugo's words regarding the quality of the products, it went like "If a person buys something just because it is expensive and does not understand all the effort and craftsmanship that goes into producing the thing in question, then it is called ...*something*...". I do not know why, but I want to recall the word so bad that I even digged into the transcripts of pretty much all the sartorial talks, but unfortunately have not found anything. Could you or maybe someone in the comment section help me recall the word? Thanks!
Love Love Love the content of your videos. Keep it up!! You mentioned the perfume that is sprayed in the box but you said it in french and I couldnt make out the name. Can you please Tell us the name of that perfume?
Hey SartorialTalks! I recently stumbled upon your channel and I love your videos, so calming. I didn't watch everything yet but I already know where I will get my first pair of boujee shoes :) . By the way you look like Antoine Griezmann haha

Dear mr Jacomet , I’m a fan of your content . I find it useful and spot on . Based on your videos I decided to commission my first bespoke with cifoneli but I’m not sure what’s the difference between Lorenzo & massimo ? I have got an appointment to see massimo in London & reluctant to go as I’m not sure who makes the suit and if there’s a difference between the two ? Apologies for posting here as I couldn’t find your email 😀
I learned a lot! I'm a hand-knitter and I've been looking for silk yarn to knit a pair of victorian socks...but in "normal" yarn shops I can't find a yarn that seems fine enough for knitting socks... is the yarn you show available for the general public? Thank you so much 😊
I'm not sure about sourcing the yarn, but if you have contact with Mes Chausettes Rouges, perhaps they can help you. How incredible to experience hand-knitted socks ! Hugo
Great socks from this company! I myself prefer black and pastel color socks. Red socks are not in my wardrobe and white socks are fine but just for sports…
I have one question: i Need help. I search for Good Quality cotton Knitted Sweater, exspecially cable knit Sweater. Can somebody recommand me some Good Brands?
Very surprised to see that Vicuna socks are made. Even more surprised that even they are only 20% vicuna fabric. William Abraham have a pair of cervelt red deer fabric from new zealand, which is much rarer and more durable than vicuna. Considering they are 100% cevelt they are somehow more afforable per gram of fabric.
You're right, the 100% cevelt socks are undeniably the most luxurious socks out there. I personally never tried them, but I will certainly do. All my best, Hugo
You never cross your legs when closing a business deal. It sends the signal that you are closed when you actually want to keep everything open and welcoming in new clientele ,customers or partners. You Or they are about to make a life-changing decision and the last thing you wanna do is sit back and cross your legs it’s not proper
@@SARTORIALTALKS I think I should’ve used a less “finger wagging” type of tonality now that I’ve re read 😫 Please forgive. I hope that Mr. Hugo finds the comment where I compliment his voice next 😬
The Vatican has haute couture shops for the clergy, huh? I wonder how the Nazarene would feel about that. Irony. In any case, I will definitely be getting a pair of these chaussettes!

@@SARTORIALTALKS ,and to you,sir
Just did my first order yesterday. ❤️
Fabulous to read ! Hugo
I agree they are the best socks in the world.
That's very kind of you. Cheers, Hugo
Thank you. We are very honoured by your comment !
Jacques
35:03 I think they might be called shadow stripe socks in english.
Ah yes, thank you Jim ! Cheers, Hugo
This is the word Falke uses for their range of these socks. But I am not sure it is a word that belong to the jargon of the knitting industry.
Jacques
I learned a lot! I'm a hand-knitter and I've been looking for silk yarn to knit a pair of victorian socks...but in "normal" yarn shops I can't find a yarn that seems fine enough for knitting socks... is the yarn you show available for the general public? Thank you so much 😊
I'm not sure about sourcing the yarn, but if you have contact with Mes Chausettes Rouges, perhaps they can help you. How incredible to experience hand-knitted socks ! Hugo
So very interesting.
I would love to see a 3-way phone conference with Kirby Allison and the folks at Gentleman's Gazette.
I would be game ! Hugo
Great socks from this company! I myself prefer black and pastel color socks. Red socks are not in my wardrobe and white socks are fine but just for sports…
Many would agree with you on the last point, Dan. Hugo
wich one should i chose mid calf or knee high? i have a problem with sliding socks?
I personnel prefer knee high. More stable and comfortable. Cheers, Hugo
I have one question: i Need help. I search for Good Quality cotton Knitted Sweater, exspecially cable knit Sweater. Can somebody recommand me some Good Brands?
I just ordered three pair out of curiosity.
@@SARTORIALTALKS Best regards Hugo, I love learning about the history of craftsmanship and your presentation makes it very enjoyable.
You never cross your legs when closing a business deal. It sends the signal that you are closed when you actually want to keep everything open and welcoming in new clientele ,customers or partners. You Or they are about to make a life-changing decision and the last thing you wanna do is sit back and cross your legs it’s not proper
Excellent feedback and well noted ! Hugo and Sonya
@@SARTORIALTALKS I think I should’ve used a less “finger wagging” type of tonality now that I’ve re read 😫
Please forgive.
I hope that Mr. Hugo finds the comment where I compliment his voice next 😬
@@hemigod2 No worries James. Warm regards, Hugo
Saw it at 666 views. Felt uneasy.
Nice to see Hugo go total "kid in a candy shop" though
Well, look at it this way dear Pete: your view made us move to 667! Cheers, Hugo
Well, silk is actually very durable
The Vatican has haute couture shops for the clergy, huh? I wonder how the Nazarene would feel about that. Irony. In any case, I will definitely be getting a pair of these chaussettes!
That's a great idea! All my best, Hugo
absurdly expensive
But also absurdly stylish.
