How did he get 20 units..shouldn't it be 24?? I'm confused now was trying to go over with my kid but it doesn't make sense..

He got 20 units by adding the length of the width twice. He added 4 + 4 + 6 + 6 to equal 20. He would get 24 by multiplying the length and width, 6 times 4, this would be the area not the perimeter

Area is L x W which is L= length W= width the length is the sides and the width is the tops to make it easier so multiple the length and width and you have the area
