    He sold his soul to be the king of late night and he did in fact become a legend, after having appeared to have murdered the entire panel of guests on live television.

    • @simplyeric12
      @simplyeric12 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He didn’t murder everyone. If you look at the bodies, they were killed the same way other than Lily, which most likely was the Devil’s goal to set himself free from her body.

    • @Scottdick6
      @Scottdick6 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This isn’t true. He didn’t “appear to murder” anyone except Lilly. When it shows the reality, Gus was burned to a crisp which the possessed Lilly obviously did. Jack had no way of doing that to his body lol. He only appeared to murder Lilly with the knife.

      That’s what I’m confused about. All the bodies were left the same way they were killed by the Devil. So it made me think if all of that was captured on tv and Jack technically stabbed the girl to make it appear he was the hero. Doesn’t seem possible for him to burn someone, twist their neck around, etc all in the same area.

      I don’t think it’s to frame him.
      The broadcast is meant to be seen by the viewers at home, at least those within the movie.
      Yes, he was part of some ritual, but he is isn’t doing the show for Satan.
      He was using the topic, because he’d met the girl and her doctor.
      The other mentalist guy, is killed horribly, after he leaves.
      What Jack sees, at the end, is all illusion.
      What I mean, is that it’s not the tv viewers seeing him kill people. The entity takes over everything in the studio, and it’s Al it’s suggesting it reaches through, into the at home audience, but it’s ambiguous.
      The scene, of the terrible James Randhi, stand in, with the guy thinking he had things under his skin, into full tearing his stomach open, while most of the people there say they saw it, with a few saying they didn’t.
      That’s not really how hypnosis works. Especially, not with crowds at a show, and group hypnosis, in general.

    He sold his soul at the grove. After that he had to make a sacrifice but he did not know it was his wife. in the end the Devil won as it says in the credits at the end of the movie not the end of the actual movie. the little girl was supposed to be killed at the age of 13 and as soon as she turned 13, as it says on the show, "it has been done". Very clever movie.

    I thought the recreation of a low budget show from the 70s was spot on. There were some creepy moments for sure and a bit of gore. Overall it kept what was really happening pretty open to interpretation. We can assume Jack went nuts and killed the audience (or the very least stabbed the young girl on camera.)
    How much of the rest happened is up to interpretation. My only issue was it was hyped a bit too much.

    This is a really solid analysis. The thing that wrong-footed me is the genre bait-and-switch. This is absolutely sold as found footage, until you realise that the backstage ‘camera’ is almost impossible. And then the shift at the end sells it. It definitely feels like an analogue horror film, and I think the hypnosis element ties in. I also like it’s subtle hints - ie Jack got the role because the previous host died in a ‘freak elevator accident’ according to the opening articles. And seeing Jack mouth ‘Minnie’ at the beginning, opening up the possibility that Christou was actually just hot reading Jack. There are so many layers to this film.

    Sometimes I have the feeling that Jack is darker than we want to believe he is. The first time I saw the movie I thought it meant he had chosen to sacrifice his wife in some way for fame, and that felt like it could be vaguely true based on his intentional exploitation of a young girl dealing with alleged possession, and even if she wasn’t possessed, definitely a young girl dealing with immense trauma and bringing her on solely for ratings. We know he has been in a relationship with June, albeit for an obviously short amount of time, which also adds to the theory that maybe he did sacrifice his wife. Her being on the show before she died being the highest rated episode, then Jack feeling like he needed to top it and keep his success leading to the immediate following with the Halloween episode.
    Him telling the people at the end to turn off their screens is because he genuinely regrets how out of control everything became in a single night and he doesn’t want anyone else getting hurt.
    Jack wears his ring as show but also as a way to deal with his guilt, and Madeline’s way of haunting him is to also get back at him for his intentional sacrifice of her.
    Of course that was just my initial interpretation of the movie on a first viewing. I saw it a second time and still see how Jack became the unwitting victim of it all, especially poor Madeline. I feel it’s a scarier story if Jack is indeed a more intentional villain, but also having your world collapse around you due to making a deal with evil is just as scary,

    How could we, as the viewer, be hypnotized? We are watching the cassette itself. We should have not seen the worms and stuff I think (based on the fact that the audience inside the studio realized that they were hypnotized when they were shown the actual video footage of Carmichael's session with Gus).

    Your analysis of the movie is better than the movie was itself. You go way further in depth and give more thought to the movie than the movie actually did itself. There are slowburn movies that have a solid payoff at the end, then theres movies like this that just go slow all the way and then trail off with barely a whimper. Such a solid premise and idea wasted with the production and performance.

    Saw it last night. Boyfriend didnt enjoy it, said there was too much buildup for an anticlimactic payoff, too much Chekhov and not enough guns. I kind of agree they really wanted to make sure you had every important plot point in your head before it happened, which got a bit annoying but only bc i figured most of the plot out by halfway, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, the performances from everyone were top notch, the characters all had real personalities, it never got boring for me. (and my biggest most pleasant surprise was it was made in in my state! Australian movies are usually hit or miss, horror ones much more so) I do wish we got to see more of what they were doing at the Grove among the Tall Trees on screen, though.

    The way I interpreted was all this did happen and then we see a flashback to jacks past where he sold his soul to be the biggest host
    (Lilly also references this earlier “youre going to be famous very soon”)
    They show how he did the ritual and sacrificed his wife
    It then cuts to him actually stabbing lilly to carry out the work of the satanic church
    The devil uses him as an instrument (which is also implied) and the evil “prophecy” is fulfilled
    The ending is up for interpretation but i believe the cameras cut when the lights went out so the home audience sees nothing that unfolds after
    There will most likely be a headline in the news that jack has gone mad and killed his guests falling into the trap of the devil as he was used and tricked to ultimately become the most (in)famous talkshow host ever
