The thing I love about SA2's soundtrack is that each character has their own music stylings, adding to their sense of identity. Sonic has the typical "butt rock" people associate with the adventure games while Tails' is a lot more melodic. Knuckles' rap is pretty self-evident.
Gosh this was everything i could've wanted as someone who is casually interested in music theory and love video game music and especially caters to my sonic addiction. Can't wait for the SA 1 OST reaction, wish I caught this live.

SA2’s soundtrack is a classic. Jun Senoue, Fumie Kumatani, Kenichi Tokoi and Tomoya Ohtani went all out, as with Sega’s fall from a 1st party publisher, it felt like it could have been the last Sonic game. Shame about all the technical difficulties, hopefully next stream is better.
Sonic is great. Not the first game I played, but close. 1. Mario (Sunshine), 2. Zelda (Wind Waker), and 3. Sonic (Adventure) were the first games I ever played (between 5 and 8 years old).

I really love that aspect of the song since i just discovered it as a adult but it really fits since it’s like it’s being suppressed under pressure and it doesn’t come out till the 2nd form because by then that has been lifted and there’s hope that Sonic and shadow can win and save the day so there’s no need for despair, and dark and final story should be in part 2 so he will make that connection with supporting me. “I KNOW MY FUTURE IT WAS MY PLACE TO LIVE BUT NOW I NEED YOUR HEEEELLLPP I PREPARED THIS DISGUSTING AIR OF DARKNESS TO THIS PRESSURE I NEVER LOSE OUT BUT I WILL BE LOSING YOU BEFORE LONGGGGGGG. The beginning of this stream definitely taught Dan a lesson: never minimize chat, because we're typically the ones who are first to notice when something's wrong.
Technical issues aside, we're off to a good start! Things will... Well, I don't know if they'll get better, but they'll stay just as awesome from here on out!
47:48 The first Sonic game I ever played was Mario and Sonic at the London Olympic Games. That being said though, Sonic Adventure 2 is what taught me that video games can be amazing tools for storytelling.
The guitar riff in Green Forest at 59:50 sounds just like the riff in the breakdown of the Offspring song Americana (2:33 in that song), only in a different key. Americana came out in 1998, around when SA2 was starting development, and the Offspring were pretty popular in Japan :]
Oh man I would've loved to see this live, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle was a huge part of my childhood! Can't wait to get home and watch your reaction to every song 😁
It was a fun stream i attended with you dan. The upcoming music for team dark youll probably find a lot more interesting though. Certainly i do. Checking these out mainly because sonic adventure 1 was my favorite soundtrack as a kid and was seminal along with f zero x guitar arrange in making me become a musician and a songwriter, and now, a church pianist. My first Sonic experience is a very clear memory for me as well. My mom, older brother and myself were out garage sale-ing, and we got to one sale that had a Sega genesis for sale. We, being kids at the time, wanted to get it. The guy having the sale offered to hook up the system right there in the driveway to make sure it worked, and the game he started up for us to try, was Sonic 2. We've been huge fans ever since. We probably still have that exact cartridge, but I have no way of telling it apart from any other copy we might have gotten over the years. Still one of my absolute favorite Sonic games. (And unpopular opinion, but Emerald Hill is better than Green Hill.)

I mean, the important thing about “it doesn’t matter” on the SA2 soundtrack is that it’s a slightly worse version of the song from the original Sonic Adventure lol. Well, in my opinion anyway… I guess I never got into that ska punk type style or whatever it is… Oh well, it’s not like this version is bad either way.
Easily the best Sonic Music to happen in the Series. Eggman and Fly in the Freedom are top notch themes for Dr. Robotnik & Rouge the Bat. But always Remember that in SA2, Eggman Pissed on the Moon!

I'm surprised when I checked your channel that you haven't covered either of the Octopath Traveler games, those games have AMAZING OSTs. I'd definitely recommend Octopath Traveler 2's OST, it's so good.
The first video game I ever played was a DVD bonus feature game. After that it was some kind of free to play mobile game. Then it was a game on a bootleg NES console.

It's a niche space shooter game that most probably don't think about but has wonderful music in my opinion! In terms of length it has about a similar amount of songs to Sonic 1. About 20 songs and jingles. Loved seeing this video as SA2 has lots of beautiful music. Theme that plays during the final cutscene always strike me strongly every time.
A funny thing about _Let's Make It_ is that it very much does NOT sound like that in the game itself. Yep, the soundtrack version's very different. The in-game version starts off with just the bassline and builds up to the full band coming in at the third section (when Sonic finally emerges). If you're interested in this type of thing, while I think _Let's Make It_ is the most drastic case of this, there's other smatterings of divergence between the in-game songs and their soundtrack CD counterparts as well.
