Most people didn't start using them until 2010, they were really expensive and people were used to flip phones for so long that they didn't see the point in upgrading when their home computer could do what a smart phone does already. Even though it came out in 2007 most people still used flip phones for years.
It was absolute torture to have to wait over a year to find out what happened next after this scene. I envy the people who found this show later on Netflix

Actually it was Walt Whitman's parents who did it by naming their son "Walter". Had they given him any other name not starting with "W" then Gale doesn't make the WW association and give Walt this book with this note.

It counted weeks and days until the second part of the season airs. I remember many fan theories and jokes. So many memes were shared there. One weeks before the second part ( EDIT: or the season finale, I am not 100% sure), they posted a huge FB "banner" that featured every important character from the series, yet they were all heavily photoshopped and parodied. I remember some of the details vividly: Walter White in the centre of the photo was pouting his lips, Skyler's screaming face, Walter JR. with fried eggs instead of eyes, Hector's head (with his *ding ding ding* facial expression) was wearing propeller beanie.... As I said, words cannot describe it. That FB page was awesome and made me laugh often. ..I must have tried to find that photo again for at least a dozen times, but I had no luck.

The simple reuse of the "You got me." line in this scene was so powerful the first time I watched it. The context took on so much of a different meaning and was a powerful cold close to the episode.
They have to invent a pill that makes you lose your memory of a certain show. I’d buy 20 of those pills so I can rewatch this masterpiece over and over again.
I don’t know if it’s the closeup camera angle, makeup, lighting or Norris’ acting but in the last seconds of the scene, Hank looks like he aged a few years in his realization. Which I’m sure anyone would feel like they would, since nothing would seem to make sense within that moment.
I find it incredible how his tone and his mannerisms exactly convey a perfectly realistic reaction by someone who fears they have been busted but wants to fake through by awkwardly pretending they are who they know they are but don't want their peers to know. It is even hard to explain let alone acting it out.
AlbertOrnstein yea the little nuances in acting are what make it believable. That reaction IS REAL it has to be. That’s why Bryan Cranston was truly recognized as a great actor. But also the writing of the character and script played a huge part. Everything came together on this show to create epic drama.
Absolutely insane. I still vividly remember all the emotions I felt watching this show. I've never been so invested in a piece of fiction my entire life. This is the greatest show of all time.
This scene had my jaw on the ground. The end of "One Minute" I will never forget. My heart was pounding out of my chest. This show was easily the last peak of television drama before streaming came and introduced new styles and creators and gatekeepers. VG absolutely knocked it out of the park with this show.
I think the line delivery of "Walter White?" is even better to be honest. That little tone change, like something in Hank knows "you really should consider it, come to think of it..."
That’s almost as bad of a Cliffhanger as when Negan on The walking dead killed somebody with Lucille only you didn’t know who it was because you saw it from the person who was getting murdered eyes xD
Dean Norris is one of the best actors who can show multiple emotions on his face just look at the scene before his death or the scene where Walt tells him he has cancer you can see the sadness, rage, denial, shock all on his face No doubt this show has the greatest acting.
-equipment from Walt's school used in a cook -looking for Walt out of concern and finding a dangerous drug dealer (Tuco) -Walt blocking the scene with James Kilkelly and then Badger suddenly being on the other bench -"half a million in cash" Those are all things Hank witnessed. It wouldn't be a twist at all. It would need to be reworked so Hank catches Gus, who from Hank's perspective is a minor character that funds the DEA Fun Run and owns a fast food joint he loves that he really doesn't know much about otherwise, reworking Walt to be a red hearing for the audiance. "Walter Heisenberg" would be a twist too obvious to the audiance if we saw it from Hank's perspective.
They'd need to change a lot of the writing if that were the case since fans will literally find out that Walt is heisenberg as soon as the crimes start happening.

This was one of the biggest cliffhangers to end a season of all time. I actually remember being grade 12 or so waiting for new season to come out. Oh how time flies.
This scene makes me feel some form of pity for Hank. Right at this moment, his perception of Walt changed COMPLETELY. In my opinion, he was rather shocked and heartbroken than angry, mainly because Walt was a family member and lied to him for so long. In the beginning, when Hank used to tease Walt about not being "man enough", he didn't do it for sadistic pleasure- he was just playing (at least, in his own mind). Hank always viewed Walt as a brother and never actually wished him any harm, and at this moment, Hank just refused to believe that such an honest and hardworking family man (again, in Hank's mind) could be a drug dealer and a vicious murderer. It probably even destroyed his faith in humanity, as he probably was thinking "man, if a nice guy like Walt can be this way, what hope is left for other people?" This moment just gave him an existential crisis.
When you go to fill in the answer for the last multiple choice and it's already filled in, and you see the one you skipped 30 questions back with 1 minute left
Hank’s face at 1:30 just completely shows the amount of shock he’s in. Walt literally gave himself away multiple times and Hank never caught on. He must’ve felt humiliated.
walt didn't lie is that hank just never thought that such a nice guy like walt could never achieve something this big i mean a drug kingpin how could hank ever thought of that
no, he just assumed that because walt is not a tough guy DEA agent or some wild criminal that he's simply incapable of these things. i think the moral here is to never put anything past anybody.
I remember in an earlier episode Hank states how "the universe is trying to tell me something and I'm finally starting to listen". everything he went through from killing Tuco to almost dying for him to be humbled and grow as a person and with that the universe rewards him by pretty much handing him the one he's been after only to angered and heartbroken to the fact that the monster he's been chasing was a part of his family all along
This scene always give me chills. The same person Hank always thought was so weak was really the criminal mastermind he was chasing for over 2 years, who was just hiding in plain sight.
I love how in the end, like with everything else, it was Walt's hubris which brought him down. That book an any connection to Gayle should have been incinerated but what Walt desired beyond anything was recognition and respect. In Gayle he had someone who honestly recognized his brilliance as a chemist so that note in that book meant the world to him. It stoked his ego and for that reason he kept it.
@@Onmysheet I mean if you don't feel safe and secure in your own home's bathroom there are serious problems. In Walt's mind that was probably the only place he could open it up without repercussions despite that being his undoing.

Was that the only bathroom though? Surely there isn't a 'common bathroom'? Where does Walt Jr. go? I figure the reason Hank went there wasn't because it was the only one, but because it was the closest one to the back entrance and he knew about it/was lazy/really had to go.
I love how when Hank walks back out to the patio we hear Marie say, “You are the devil” as the camera focuses on Walt holding Holly. Love those kind of details. Makes BrBa and BCS such wonderful pieces of cinema ❤️✅
I remember the feeling i had when this first aired: The family all reunited again by the pool like the good old days, even Walt and Skyler truly smiling to each other. You could felt that the inevitable was coming. Less than 3 minutes to the chapter to end knowing that i would have to wait many months to watch the last 8 chapters of the serie, and this scene with Hank just left us millions of fans all around the world whit ours mouth open and hearts bumping like crazy....What a feeling....What a masterpiece...
@@gustofing No. This scene is from the 5th season, chapter 8. The pool scene you mentioned happened 4 chapters before, it was done to make Marie and Hank take the kids OUT of the house. I just realized that this line is a parallel between that time that he's describing with Gus and the family dinner that Walt tells Hank that Heisenberg is still out there because he's too drunk on wine to not say anything. Man, every time I revisit this show I find out some other neat little detail that they worked into the script or story. Vince Gilligan and his writers are gods among men
I went to a theater viewing of this episode when it aired - the whole place was packed, and the crowd erupted in gasps, guffaws, hollering, screams, applause, and everything in between when Hank looked up at the end and the credits started. One of the best and most memorable theater-going experiences I’ve ever had! Just came back to this video again and saw all the responses to this comment. 😆 It was just at this little theater in Portland, Oregon and they sometimes had free showings of highly-anticipated episodes of popular TV series when they aired - usually just the first ep of a new season or a finale, it wasn’t a weekly occurrence. Not sure if they still do that kind of thing, but I’m glad I got to experience this moment with so many others in real time!
This was always my favorite scene. The expression on Hank's face is so powerful, especially when you watch the whole show in context. The build up is fucking hair raising.

well.. we missed the build up and anticipation of an episode once in a week..it was mid series finale..guess the tension and anticipation. It would surpass anything. Having said that, I too binge watched it because I watched it in 2015.
I didn’t mind all that much. It was a good time. I no longer have cable, and my only frustration with Better Call Saul is that the episodes I will not see until they are released onto Netflix could possibly be spoiled before I finally gain access to them. 😤
This has to be the greatest cliffhanger between seasons of a show of all time. I've seen a lot of great shows, but nothing comes close to this cliffhanger when you have all the context. This is like when animes try to capture that moment when the protagonist suddenly pieces together all of the different pieces of the plot twist, but it's done so, so well. The setup, the feeling of relief that the viewer has as the "protagonist" finally has everything under wraps to be the happy-ever-after, and then.... I can't even fathom what early watchers of this show felt when they had to wait a whole year for the new season after this episode.
Then Hank ran out of the bathroom, pants still down. He rushed outside and looked at Walter straight to his eyes. "Son of a bitch!" he yelled and grab him by the collar. "What the hell, Hank?" said Walter. "I know who Heisenberg is." Walt said nothing. "We need to get a Golden Ticket. Fast."
The cut to walt and Hank's conversation from so long ago (upon his now slow realization) is so well done with it's eerily quiet atmosphere. It is the best climax in any TV-show ever made. The absolutely nailed it.
You KNEW it was on right then and there. Every single episode from there on was just a masterpiece. This whole show is a body of work that is just pure art.
Dean Norris (Hank) was such a phenomenal actor in this show. I was always pretty amazed with how he played out some of his best scenes. And I certainly don't think it would've been as great a show as it was without his 10/10 acting.
To pile on with what the other guys said, it's extra fun 'cause you have to imagine the bewilderment and fear in Hank was a lot stronger when he's like "why does this random book THE DEA HAS NOT SEEN have almost the same W.W. message in it?"
It's phenomenal what Dean Norris does in these closing episodes of the series. I genuinly had the feeling he aged 20 years while lifting his head after figuring out the truth. I don't know how he does this, but I have never seen anyone else acting a thousand negative and crushing emotions at once so convincingly.
The look he gives at the end is priceless. It's a mix of shock, anger, horror, you name it all in one expression. Superb acting and directing in one of the greatest shows of all time.
The flashback to the scene where he and Walt are discussing Gale's notebook and Walt says "Heh... You got me" with his hands up is so eerie. I love this show!
@@aperson7303 it’s actually a different take according to the director cause it’s edited differently in that original episode. They play it on Walt a lot more but this time it’s all Hank’s reaction and talking straight through so they had to use a different take
Stan I think he was just making a point that walt was caught by such a silly little mistake and that walt was really good at getting away except that tiny mistake
MMM, I don't think so. Few reasons why. The first theme of the show is that the descent into evil and madness is subtle and starts small. The second theme is that you don't get to manipulate reality without it catching back up to you. Because that theme is so pervasive in the show... I think it's acknowledged that justice is coming for Walt one way or another. There were other clues for hank to find. He would have figured it out eventually. And if not Hank, someone else.
TheJeffreyJellyfish not to mention there are times where Walt all but told hank he's a drug kingpin "what's in the bag walt?" "Half a million in cash." Or: "maybe the real Heisenberg is still out there" (when he had dinner at Hank's). This is a combination of Walter's weathered state, (he has been dealing with the threat of death/arrest for the better part of a year) and his ego (a recurring demon throughout the show). As a result, Walter has had momentary lapses of self preservation instincts, such as his decision to leave evidence in his bathroom. (P.S. with the absolute ASS TON of huge problems he constantly grappled with, it is entirely possible he could have simply overlooked such a minor detail)
I watched this live as it aired, commercials and all. My mind was absolutely blown. I don't think I slept that night. And I knew that I would have to wait months for more episodes.

Walter's ego wouldn't let him. His ego was the driving force behind the entire show. The show should have ended at season 3, but his ego wouldn't let him resist Gus' offer. "What does a man do? A man provides." He should have chucked the book, but he kept it as a memento of the time he outsmarted Gus and took out the only chemist who could possibly rival him.
The way the episode just ends on this scene. Definitely made whoever was watching this it this far come back to see what the hell is gonna happen. Great viewer captivity!
I was literally jumping around in shock and anticipation when this happened. You could say it's dissapointing that it was so random how he discovered it, but I disagree. Life is random at times and the show had already proven its credibility in story building, without resorting to random chance regularly to write itself out of trouble. It's an earned and plausible shocker, exactly because of that.
To be fair, I think that the discovery occurring due to something random and unintentional is an interesting ironic moment. Despite the year of effort and dedication Hank put in to finding Heisenberg, it was revealed to him at perhaps the most inopportune moment. Walt retired and was, to some degree, ready to put that life behind him and yet, by accident, he got caught (as criminals tend to do).
I've never thought that at all. The way he finds out is too perfect. It's so poetic the randomness of it on top of Walt officially retiring in the background.

My parents had the Sopranos, I had Breaking Bad. I was on my feet during this scene. Breathtaking. Hank just realizes all the times he had Walt and never assumed.
Honestly, this show had a lot of moments that scared me more than any horror movie. When walt says "ha, you got me" it's scarier than you think. Hank's reaction was priceless
After all the hype of Game Of Thrones I wonder if everyone now realises how great this show is. From start to finish they held it together and just simple things like Hank taking a shit can give you goose bumps. Amazing show with never ending amazing and timeless moments, nothing will ever top it.

I don’t know if it’s the closeup camera angle, makeup, lighting or Norris’ acting but in the last seconds of the scene, Hank looks like he aged a few years in his realization. Which I’m sure anyone would feel like they would, since nothing would seem to make sense within that moment.

I find it incredible how his tone and his mannerisms exactly convey
a perfectly realistic reaction by someone who fears they have been busted but wants to fake through by awkwardly pretending they are who they know they are but don't want their peers to know. It is even hard to explain let alone acting it out.
AlbertOrnstein yea the little nuances in acting are what make it believable. That reaction IS REAL it has to be. That’s why Bryan Cranston was truly recognized as a great actor. But also the writing of the character and script played a huge part. Everything came together on this show to create epic drama.

This scene had my jaw on the ground. The end of "One Minute" I will never forget. My heart was pounding out of my chest. This show was easily the last peak of television drama before streaming came and introduced new styles and creators and gatekeepers. VG absolutely knocked it out of the park with this show.
The biggest problem though was waiting a year for the second half of the season.

Those are all things Hank witnessed. It wouldn't be a twist at all. It would need to be reworked so Hank catches Gus, who from Hank's perspective is a minor character that funds the DEA Fun Run and owns a fast food joint he loves that he really doesn't know much about otherwise, reworking Walt to be a red hearing for the audiance. "Walter Heisenberg" would be a twist too obvious to the audiance if we saw it from Hank's perspective.
Would perhaps work as a movie. Or a mini series.
They'd need to change a lot of the writing if that were the case since fans will literally find out that Walt is heisenberg as soon as the crimes start happening.

This scene makes me feel some form of pity for Hank. Right at this moment, his perception of Walt changed COMPLETELY. In my opinion, he was rather shocked and heartbroken than angry, mainly because Walt was a family member and lied to him for so long.
In the beginning, when Hank used to tease Walt about not being "man enough", he didn't do it for sadistic pleasure- he was just playing (at least, in his own mind). Hank always viewed Walt as a brother and never actually wished him any harm, and at this moment, Hank just refused to believe that such an honest and hardworking family man (again, in Hank's mind) could be a drug dealer and a vicious murderer. It probably even destroyed his faith in humanity, as he probably was thinking "man, if a nice guy like Walt can be this way, what hope is left for other people?" This moment just gave him an existential crisis.

I remember in an earlier episode Hank states how "the universe is trying to tell me something and I'm finally starting to listen". everything he went through from killing Tuco to almost dying for him to be humbled and grow as a person and with that the universe rewards him by pretty much handing him the one he's been after only to angered and heartbroken to the fact that the monster he's been chasing was a part of his family all along
This scene always give me chills. The same person Hank always thought was so weak was really the criminal mastermind he was chasing for over 2 years, who was just hiding in plain sight.

I love how in the end, like with everything else, it was Walt's hubris which brought him down. That book an any connection to Gayle should have been incinerated but what Walt desired beyond anything was recognition and respect. In Gayle he had someone who honestly recognized his brilliance as a chemist so that note in that book meant the world to him. It stoked his ego and for that reason he kept it.
But why keep it in the bathroom? Bedroom would've been ideal.

I remember the feeling i had when this first aired: The family all reunited again by the pool like the good old days, even Walt and Skyler truly smiling to each other. You could felt that the inevitable was coming. Less than 3 minutes to the chapter to end knowing that i would have to wait many months to watch the last 8 chapters of the serie, and this scene with Hank just left us millions of fans all around the world whit ours mouth open and hearts bumping like crazy....What a feeling....What a masterpiece...

I just realized that this line is a parallel between that time that he's describing with Gus and the family dinner that Walt tells Hank that Heisenberg is still out there because he's too drunk on wine to not say anything. I went to a theater viewing of this episode when it aired - the whole place was packed, and the crowd erupted in gasps, guffaws, hollering, screams, applause, and everything in between when Hank looked up at the end and the credits started. One of the best and most memorable theater-going experiences I’ve ever had!
Just came back to this video again and saw all the responses to this comment. 😆 It was just at this little theater in Portland, Oregon and they sometimes had free showings of highly-anticipated episodes of popular TV series when they aired - usually just the first ep of a new season or a finale, it wasn’t a weekly occurrence. Not sure if they still do that kind of thing, but I’m glad I got to experience this moment with so many others in real time!

I've seen a lot of great shows, but nothing comes close to this cliffhanger when you have all the context. This is like when animes try to capture that moment when the protagonist suddenly pieces together all of the different pieces of the plot twist, but it's done so, so well. The setup, the feeling of relief that the viewer has as the "protagonist" finally has everything under wraps to be the happy-ever-after, and then....
I can't even fathom what early watchers of this show felt when they had to wait a whole year for the new season after this episode.

The ‘you got me’ part gets you so much more than when that part originally played. It was so well planned and so perfectly executed.
You KNEW it was on right then and there. Every single episode from there on was just a masterpiece. This whole show is a body of work that is just pure art.

From here on out all Hank wanted woth his research was to try and find a reason why it could not be Walt. He really didn't want it to be Walt.
Dean Norris (Hank) was such a phenomenal actor in this show. I was always pretty amazed with how he played out some of his best scenes. And I certainly don't think it would've been as great a show as it was without his 10/10 acting.
They were all great actors for the show, but I think Hank's really stands out the most. IMO
He really sold the transformation of that character. When you watch the series again, it's so striking how different he was in the first season.
The fact that he found out from the same book Walt trolled him with makes this legendary.

It's phenomenal what Dean Norris does in these closing episodes of the series. I genuinly had the feeling he aged 20 years while lifting his head after figuring out the truth. I don't know how he does this, but I have never seen anyone else acting a thousand negative and crushing emotions at once so convincingly.

Of course... if Walt did a lot of things differently, the series would have gone differently... that's the point.. it was completely in his character.

MMM, I don't think so. Few reasons why. The first theme of the show is that the descent into evil and madness is subtle and starts small. The second theme is that you don't get to manipulate reality without it catching back up to you. Because that theme is so pervasive in the show... I think it's acknowledged that justice is coming for Walt one way or another. There were other clues for hank to find. He would have figured it out eventually. And if not Hank, someone else.
TheJeffreyJellyfish not to mention there are times where Walt all but told hank he's a drug kingpin "what's in the bag walt?" "Half a million in cash." Or: "maybe the real Heisenberg is still out there" (when he had dinner at Hank's).
This is a combination of Walter's weathered state, (he has been dealing with the threat of death/arrest for the better part of a year) and his ego (a recurring demon throughout the show). As a result, Walter has had momentary lapses of self preservation instincts, such as his decision to leave evidence in his bathroom.
(P.S. with the absolute ASS TON of huge problems he constantly grappled with, it is entirely possible he could have simply overlooked such a minor detail)
They were trying to show that Walters intelligence was also his undoing because it also contributed to his arrogance.
I could only imagine how it was for people who watched this live waiting a year for the next episode after this absolute wild cliffhanger

I was literally jumping around in shock and anticipation when this happened. You could say it's dissapointing that it was so random how he discovered it, but I disagree. Life is random at times and the show had already proven its credibility in story building, without resorting to random chance regularly to write itself out of trouble. It's an earned and plausible shocker, exactly because of that.

To be fair, I think that the discovery occurring due to something random and unintentional is an interesting ironic moment. Despite the year of effort and dedication Hank put in to finding Heisenberg, it was revealed to him at perhaps the most inopportune moment. Walt retired and was, to some degree, ready to put that life behind him and yet, by accident, he got caught (as criminals tend to do).

Thrones has nothing on BB. Earlier seasons maybe, but not the show as a whole.

My parents had the Sopranos, I had Breaking Bad. I was on my feet during this scene. Breathtaking. Hank just realizes all the times he had Walt and never assumed.

Honestly, this show had a lot of moments that scared me more than any horror movie. When walt says "ha, you got me" it's scarier than you think. Hank's reaction was priceless
After all the hype of Game Of Thrones I wonder if everyone now realises how great this show is. From start to finish they held it together and just simple things like Hank taking a shit can give you goose bumps. Amazing show with never ending amazing and timeless moments, nothing will ever top it.
I like to think that as Hank realizes its Walter, Walter is saying, "You got me" over and over and over again.
