  • I REALLY wanted to do exterior Halloween decorations for the outside of my workshop, but after three weeks of delays and idea overload, I finally landed on an idea using things from the hardware store: concrete tubes and insulation foam. And I can't believe it ACTUALLY WORKED! And it was so easy that I could kick myself for wasting so much time trying to figure out an idea.
    The whole look is brought together with customizable lighting from Ollny. Need lights for an upcoming project but you don’t want to break the bank? Check out the Ollny 100 LED Rope Lights www.ollny.com/products/100-le...
    And make sure to use my 20% off coupon code: FA20 to save some precious money (so you can buy yourself more candy!).

    But most exciting, you can get your very own digital pattern of my Box Bag Pattern
    AND I’m doing pre-sales for my DIY Box Bag Sewing Kit. The listing will close at the end of August, and orders will be shipped in September.
    I’m so excited to share these with you as I’m so proud of this pattern.

    Can you smell what I’m stepping in is my new favourite expression, the paint job on the faux doors and columns makes it look fantastic xx

      I definitely stole that from my husband so he gets the credit there. And now I kind of want to faux finish everything!

    LOVE THIS ❤️ 😍
    You did amazing with the decorating. We live in Georgia, on a hill, so I truly understand your frustration. We've learned the fine art of rebar staking and color coordinating cable ties with our spooky goods to decorate. A sanity saver.

      Thank you so much! I bought heavy yard stakes for one of my original ideas so I have it waiting for the next time.
      I wish I could see your decorations! I bet they're amazing!

    One of the best glues to use for foam is Gorilla Glue and it dries faster than Liquid nails. The other thing is expanding foam like Great Stuff. Great job!

      Gorilla glue would've been great! I'll keep that in mind for the next time!

      I feel like I'm driving the struggle bus on these types of projects! It just gets so difficult to pick a direction and stick with it, especially when obstacles come up.

      I seriously almost quit, but the good and bad thing about YT is feeling like I have to get something done. It's the pressure I need sometimes to make things happen no matter what.
      From this point, I'm writing down all of my Halloween ideas so that next year I can work on things in smaller, more manageable bits.
      Doing one thing definitely feels better than no things, so maybe pick one thing off your list?

      I'm SO hoping that this will be an annual thing. I figured out a lot of the logistical things and think next year can be more about the ✨art✨ rather than the how. 🤗🤗

    It looks great! Good job on the windows, and the window frames. Was frame the word you were thinking of? I love the bats and gargoyles! The lighting looks really cool, too. Congratulations on that, btw. For a stone look, you might try using a sea sponge to sponge on the paint. Just dab off access paint first. Halloween is just too short. I would be happy with three months.😅🎃🎃🎃

      FRAME!!!!! How could I not think of frame?!?
      A sea sponge is a great idea! I want to faux finish my windows and this is the perfect trick. Thank you for the suggestion!

    😅 yes over thinking is the worst thing to do in a project like this, 😊 next time try contact cement to glue foam together.
    🤩 It looks Amazing! You did such a great job! 😅now I want to decorate my house lol! But I don’t really get trick or treaters up on my hill 😅 maybe my house already looks haunted😳. Or, maybe it’s all the stairs one would have to climb to get up here 🤭!

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did use some barges contact cement on a test piece and it melted the foam. It did stick, but there were big gaps in the seam where the glue went.
      However, I think that Tacky glue was great! It cured pretty quickly and fortunately, I don't need it to last forever.
      Now that I learned these things, I can't wait to start planning for next year!! Going even bigger!

    • @countessa222
      @countessa222 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KatieMakesStuff Oh really wow, I had no idea that it would melt the foam! I am definitely going to have to make a note of that and keep it in my craft drawer! I usually use whatever foam I have in my storage shed or whatever I can find laying around so that info will Definitely come in handy for future projects. 😊

      It's a weird cycle of learning how to talk to no one as if you're talking to a friend, then learning how to not talk too much so you don't have to edit out a bunch of garbage nonsense. It's been fun but boy do I say the word "so" a lot (and I try to cut out as many as possible)!
