Absolutely loved it. I love cooking, but everytime I watch Jamie, it kind of tells me what an amature I am. By watching him, I am learning so many useful things. Lovely recepies for under a Pound. Will try them all. If our boys dig the vegetable Lasagna, I'll personally award him a medal. Excellent. Thank you from the Netherlands and keep up the good work!
For all the people being negative about this and saying he's not being real. One thing is, he IS trying even though he's rich as all hell ( or rich compared to all of us considering he's shut down his restaurants ) . I don't really see Gordon Ramsey doing something like this. In this day and age of inflation and rising energy costs, i think any way you can save on cooking and saving energy would be good. Yes, if you translate it to your country, mine being Singapore, it's $10 but his is a portion for 5 considering his family size. If you make his portion, just freeze your left overs and your have food for the next 3 or 4 days?
JAMIE, THANKYOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK TRYING TO HELP AND EDUCATE. I appreciate that where you live will differ in cost. But the ideas alone are brilliant. I am an ex pat living in Nederland , had a bbq yesterday and still looked up your salsa verde recipe 🙏🏻. People really need to use their brains. Instead of expecting everything to just fall into their laps, get of their fat arses and do their best. Some of the comments here are ridiculous. It shows our education system is failing, people cannot think for themselves. THANKYOU❤
My favourite chef - delicious food, affordable, don’t have to be an expect cook, not too many ingredients. Encourages seasonal cooking. I google you first, always! Pls come and visit Oz soon.
For the chicken I actually used the stove and instead of rice, did some couscous. The seasoning was the initial curry and topped it with mango chutney and yogurt. It was dreamy.
Just discovered this last week and even got inspired to buy a leek for the first time when passing by a green grocer… then the dreaded C hit so hadn’t been able to get to the shops. Made the Rustic Lasagna using what I had, 100g fresh broccoli, frozen mixed veg and peas. Pizza blend cheese instead of cheddar and we had an easy to put together, nutritious and filling meal tonight.
I got a tip about cleaning leeks from Chef Pepin...he ran them under water and then hit the leafy end on counter to loosen girt..then re rinse....and it works. I had always been taught to cut in half then put in big bowl of water and swish around then repeat.. this is so much faster
Microwave: My parents purchased one of the first microwave ovens, the Amana Radar Range. As young children, my siblings and I learned to cook complete meals for our family of five in it. Chicken and broccoli with onions and soy sauce was my favorite. We learned to cook potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, rice and noodles; cakes, puddings, eggs, bacon, etc. I never found a meal that I couldn’t cook in it, except pastry and bread. Granted, browning meats (meatloaf!) was not really possible, but ketchup, Kitchen Bouquet, soy sauce and/ or brown sugar fixed that. In color at least. But when a seven and a nine year old can cook a whole meal together (the four year old set the table) with minimal supervision, you can skip the maillard reaction once in a while. We are all accomplished cooks today (forty-five years later). Early successes built confidence and curiousity. For baking, fermenting, grilling, dehydrating and so forth. Use that microwave for more than heating up drinks, people!
My previous employer had an OLD radar range still in use 😳 it had a dial, all rotation was manual. Probably irradiated my entire self heating lunch in that thing 🤣 as far as I know it's still there chugging away (I left last September).
Great recipes for real life . I love this concept of low cost meals that are still tasty and healthy. I particularly love adding lentils to beef to stretch the budget. Also healthier. I really appreciate these videos.
I have followed your videos for quite some time, and have just found this series. I think your Christmas specials are awesome and I watch them during the holiday season. Thank you for all that you do, we have bought your cookbooks for our sons, and they love them as much as I do. Keep up the great work and keep creating more videos.
That's great Jamie, thanks for that. We all know by now that we can use the microwave in peace and from time to time, that the food will not be irradiated or change its structure. It's not an X-ray, microwaves don't have an ionizing effect. Cooking is safe, fast and economical👍🏾 and that's great. Curry looks divine😍😘❤️.
I just discovered this series and I love it! I want to make everything but maybe add a bit of cocoa powder to the steamed puddings? Love your work Jamie x
When we make full meals, I store the level-overs in individual containers (left over from deli meat) and freeze it. Home made frozen lunches not full of the preservatives you get from the store-bought frozen lunches.
Well, I hate to break it to the production crew but there's no way most of these are "less than a pound" per portion. That only works if the UK has some kind of subsidy on staple items like milk, eggs and chicken.
Had wondered how our prices in Australia would compare too. 500g pork mince is $5.50 AU… £2.93 (not too much difference). €3.34 . Other ingredients prices might be different, haven’t checked.
@@aliciakerr7639 I thought that perhaps Jamie should have mentioned that an electric pressure cooker was also an economical way to cook. Also I am not familiar with the pressure cooker in his kitchen as it looks very different from the common InstantPot brand we use in Canada. It is my favourite kitchen appliance !
@@aliciakerr7639 I must have missed that! The writing above the appliance that you suggest is an electric pressure cooker identifies it as a slow cooker.
Boring keyboard warrior….move on then…stop over analyzing…the guy is simply trying to help folk on a budget with some ideas, to make home cooked food. In this day and age, marvelous, unlike negative folk like you who have nothing better to do….what are you doing to educate and help the general public to save money and eat well?
But if you make 2 dishes that serves 6 you can alternate them every meal over 3 days, make one more and you have some variety for lunch and dinner and maybe a couple servings to store in the fridge. More people will eat through it faster but if you can't figure out how to make his suggestions work for your home situation that's not really on the format. People with larger families need options to. Maybe use the Google machine in your hands to look up cheap meals for singles or couples 🤷

You’re not the boss of me.
The fact that he cared enough for making this video for people going to difficult times, makes me like him even more, if that’s possible
I'm so impressed by your care for others over so many years. Good, tasty, affordable food in difficult times = wonderful human being!

Thank you for the free content Jamie. These ideas are helping and look yum
I love how Jamie embraces is embracing the microwave as a cooking tool. It’s not just for reheating food.
Love your show Jamie!!!
Love these new series Jamie!!

I just loved thisi video
Thank you
Prices look cheap by plate but you still have to buy the ingredients per container/package and it is well above $6 each for the most part.
But you can make more portions out of them. And freeze them maybe.
I love to see Jamie cooking
This is being made tomorrow mate,Sth London Eddie Sub following from Edmonton Canada :0)
amazing!!
I bought a Ninja flip toaster oven and it has saved me a lot of energy. It uses 1750 watts to 1800 watts. Where a oven uses 5000 watts.
Since I live in AZ and we hate to turn on the oven in the summer when it's hot, we live by the toaster oven in the summer.
What a fairy
Hi hi from Johannesburg south Africa. I've become very allergic to tomatoes. What can I use as a substitute please?
Eggplant, red capsicum and garlic roasted and mushed?

I'm confused, why does he not wash the rice?
Olive jam
Are prices reall that cheap in the UK?? ... 500g of minced meat cost nearly 4€ in Austria in comparison to jamie's 2,20 pounds🙈

I’m not sure why an electric pressure cooker was not included in the list of ways to cook. I would imagine that it would be cheaper than the oven.
The thing on the bench next to the air fryer IS an electric pressure cooker.

How much is Oliver being paid by C4 for this? He sure knows how to monetise the cost of living crisis. There’ll be a book too, no doubt.
All the recipes are available free on the website, or here, as we watch, not in a book.
Did you not just watch and get the recipes for free? Along with everyone else?

Do microwaves really kill all the nutrients and vitamins in meals when u use them
500g pork ~ $2.75
1 egg ~ $0.15
100g bread ~ $0.30
seasoning (oregano, pepper, salt, etc) ~ $0.10
50g chedar cheese ~ $1.00

garlic ~ $0.15

@@zenstories just a thought. If you have 4 friends, invite them to dinner and charge them £1 each, thus cutting you costs even further
