  • Close up look at my new shiny Asus Zenbook Duo UX482 14” dual-screen laptop while I talk through my usage experience and how functional the second screen really is.
    In this video, I focus on things that are not covered in other videos like USB C port misalignment, keyboard typing sound and backlit keys, hinge mechanism, ScreenPad Plus second screen functionality, useful features of the ScreenXpert software that compliments the ScreenPad Plus, touchpad demonstration (button clicks, two fingers drag and zoom), Australia version power (brick) adapter, and the case and active stylus pen that comes with the laptop.
    ⚠️Correction at 11:53. The stylus uses a AAAA battery, not AAA battery ⚠️

    Greetings.
    No loud shiny lighting setup or thousand dollar camera to record.
    No yo yo yo whats sup language.
    No benchmarks
    No sponsorship
    Pure simple straight forward usability. I feel less is more. With these modern you tubers I end up buying things above my budget most of the time. Your voice and explanation is soothing and simple. I got more than I wanted. Your review still single handedly beats all the reviews and reviewers on youtube platform competing with major players.
    Thank-you for this.
    More power to you.
    Good luck :)

      @kc, Oh Wow wow wow! No words can describe how much I appreciate this comment of yours. You have so eloquently described my videos that even I myself did not realise all these. It's difficult to get feedback and many times I have wonder why subscribers watch and subscribe to my channel. I don't think my videos are any good because they are low production videos. Little did I realised it's the simplicity that made my video unique and appealing. I woke up this morning and saw your comment, and you have made my day.
      Thank you so much for this encouraging comment that came at the right time. It's not easy to be a dad, work full-time and still make videos on TH-cam which I love doing.
      Hey KC, you have given me inspiration for another video idea. Can I get your permission to make a promotional video for my channel using your above comment? Would you like me to mask out your TH-cam Icon and name or happy for me to show your "KC" name? Thank you in advance.

      @@SkyPerspective Hello Sky Perspective's, I am glad my comment and feedback made your day. I can understand how cumbersome and difficult it can get with production value. Being a filmmaker and photographer myself I am aware the kind of hard work it takes to produce good content. I believe no matter how much competition is, a good content needs no production value. Basic message should be delivered, rest the world takes care of. I seriously want Asus to take note of this review and you for sure. Even I have learnt so much from you as being youngster. You have conveyed something more than the product review. I am sure a lot of people agree with me who have commented.
      Yes please you can use my comment however you wish. Name is "Kunal" .
      Everything starts small and with the right support keeps on progressing. No matter what happens don't stop, keep moving slow and steady. Your approach is rare and unique most of the channels lack it and we need more like you.
      I wish all the support and wishes for your channel to grow.
      Have a rocking day :)

      I can't back this up enough.
      It just feels like every other TH-camr only cares about some weird dumb lingo and their precious B-rolls with multi-thousand dollars wasted on equipment. Everything feels so artificial, staged, fake.
      Your review is straight down to the point, to the product, to what this is really about. No fancy and expensive stuff, no faking, no staging, just the pure sheer content in the true spirit of what TH-cam once was.
      I've got over 70 videos watched on the ZenBook Duo over the last 2 days. I could have narrowed all that down to one had I found this video of yours earlier. Congratulations.

    Thank you for the nice intro to this Zenbook duo. I just bought the UX 481. What is the significant difference between the 2 besides the bottom screen pad lifting up when the main lcd panel is being opened. Also do a tutorial on the Active stylus if you can. Good Job.

      @SkyPerspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while. When I bought it there is a A$500 price difference, and I did a comparison. As far as I remember, they are very similar. Apart from the hinge lifting the second screen, I think the major difference would be the CPU. UX482 is a newer generation CPU I think. I still went for the more expensive UX482 because I think the hinge lift improves usability and air flow and I need the CPU speed. UX481 is still very capable, and if you can use a laptop stand like this th-cam.com/video/f148dxpzjC4/w-d-xo.html to prop it up to see second screen and improve air flow too.

Don't think this will last as long though given two screens and fact technically more things can go wrong. I love the multi tasking capability and screen sizing options of active window. Hardly using the pen as touch screen is new and a revelation. I was down to get a OnePlus tablet £450 had paid deposit but no need as this Asus with its cheapest part THE STAND (which makes it more ergonomic - you never mentioned?) gives it a versatility to trump a tablet and improve general stability and multiplicity of use. Amazingly well thought out. It makes you want to be more productive for example I am voice typing now.... I know that has nothing to do with Asus BUT SUPER can't wait to do more.... Thank Again

      Wow, thanks for the wonderful positive feedback. To be honest, I haven't used any of the apps you have mentioned except Python, and I am not sure what you mean by engineering works. CAD drawing? If you are asking about doing software development coding, then yes I would recommend getting this laptop because of it's second screen and high resolution. We can maximize one app window (e.g. IDE) to display across both the top and bottom screens as one big screen. What this means is we have more screen real estate to do our coding. If budget allows, I would even recommend going for the 15" Asus Zenbook Pro Duo (UX582) www.asus.com/au/Laptops/For-Creators/ZenBook/ZenBook-Pro-Duo-15-OLED-UX582/

    Hey sir, thank you so much for this review I really like it...
    Can I ask you is this laptop good for programming??

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aymane, yes this Zenbook Duo is very capable and definitely can run programming software and IDE and maybe simulators. However, the screen and screen resolution might not big and high enough. It's only 14 inch and FHD on the main screen. You maybe able to stretch the IDE and tile various pane on the second screen if the IDE studio can accommodate.
      If you intend to plug it into an external (QHD) monitor, then you won't have any issue. I am running it with my Dell QHD monitor ( th-cam.com/video/M97wwlmamtA/w-d-xo.html ), and it works very well so far.
      Alternatively, if you don't mind the bulk and the weight, you can consider going to Asus Zenbook Duo 15" UX582 which has a 4K display. Hope this helps.

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kupof, I travel with it a lot, basically bring it with me all the time to do my work and video editing at coffee shops. Mine is the 14" model at 1.6kg, not 2.5kg. It compact enough to easily slip into the laptop pocket of my medium size backpack, and its not too heavy for me. I have carried it with my water bottle in my backpack and gone shopping for hours. A good body contoured backpack makes it so more comfortable to carry. I recommend Crumpler backpacks. Having said that, "heavy" and "light" can be subjective depending on how much we usually carry on us when we travel. Hope this helps.

    Thanks! Great video. I'm considering the upgrade from my 15 inch Acer...how's the audio and speakers? One video said they were not really that good even with the Harman/Kardon label. Also, is the main screen good or average?

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. Comparing to other laptops, the speakers from this Zenbook duo is very good and capable. Even when I pumped up the volume it's very loud and spacious, with clear mids and highs without distortion, but like with all laptops speakers the bass is lacking. To be honest, I don't hear anything spectacular with Harman Kardon. The speakers are also very capable and sufficient when it comes to video conferencing and podcast. I can easily use the onboard microphone and the speakers to video conference.
      The main screen is great, its the reason why I bought this laptop to do my video editing. The colour reproduction quality is good and above average. However, because it's a matt screen, it's not as beautiful as glossy screens. Touch screen works very well with both finger touch and pen inputs. Hope these answers your questions. Let me know if you have any more questions.

      Thanks. Depending on the type of IDE we are using, and the ability of the IDE to tile internal panes to leverage the second screen, I would say yes its suitable and usable. The horse power should be more than enough to compile code fast enough that won't cause frustration. The limitation is that this is a FHD. If can afford I would suggest going for the 15.6" UX582 bigger size model, the zenbook pro duo, where it has UHD resolution.

We can still type if we push the laptop further away from our body. Not sure if you will have space on a bus to do that. The other thing is the screen bottom edge will be digging into our thighs, near our knee cap. It's not that heavy so it's ok, but will be better if we put it on a flat surface like the case that comes with it before putting on our lap. I have used it a number of times on my lap (directly on my lap) while sitting on the sofa and sitting (not lying) on bed. Its usable, but not great. I can't type if I am lying on bed, can only use it to watch video if lying on bed, keyboard is too near my chest. Hope this helps.

      Hi ege akdoğan , you are very welcome and I am glad this video is useful. I studied computer software engineering decades ago too. This laptop is geared towards video editing, but it should be able to handle programming tasks easily. For this Zenbook Duo laptop, typing on your lap as you sit on public transport is NOT good because the keyboard is too close to our body. Have a look at my "after 7 months" video: th-cam.com/video/UaSXvM2qrrE/w-d-xo.html
      Apart from this, this laptop should be good for your study and programming tasks. You should be able to run emulators and IDE quite easily, and the dual screen is great for multitasking. There is a newer version of this Zenbook Duo: www.asus.com/laptops/for-creators/zenbook/zenbook-pro-14-duo-oled-ux8402/ which I don't think you'll need unless you also do Video content creation.

      It would be great if you can also do a video update of the laptop usage. It's been 5 months? I'd like to know how's it been. I do not see others doing it yet. Thank you

      You are very welcome Arkar. And thanks for suggesting such a great video idea. Yes I can make an after 5 months video on this Zenbook Duo. Can't believe it's 5 months already. I was about to make a video on this laptop driving my new Dell QHD USB C monitor. Maybe I will make the after 5 months video after next couple of videos. Already added to my list of videos to make. In the mean time, just to let you know, this Zenbook Duo is still going strong and I still love every part of it especially the second screen.

      @@arkarbrown5308 Hi Arkar , I am not sure if you have watched it already. I finally got to this video in my list of videos to make, and instead of an "after 5 months" videos, its an "After 7 months" video because I am 2 months late. 😊Any way, here it is, better late than never. th-cam.com/video/UaSXvM2qrrE/w-d-xo.html I have to thank you for giving me this idea. A lot of viewers likes this video apparently. Please feedback and comment on that video to let me know what you think. Thanks.

    Sir what about the tip of pen , what if tip wears off. Where can we buy extra tips of stylus? And is stylus heavy? Can we use for writing for 4-5 hrs or will it give hand ache? Please make a detail review of stylus as well. Thank you.

    Guys, you really need to get the illuminated numeric pad into your 14" models, like you have in the 15" model, I currently own a 15" model and carrying this heavy monster about is hard work. I really want the UX8402ZA, but holding myself back in the fear you might launch a 14" model with the illuminated numeric pad, as that's a very important feature I use.

    How easy is it to write notes via the stylus? And can you use Microsoft one note for that?
    It looks really nice.

    • @SkyPerspective

      Yes it's easy, but for the second screen, the height is very limited and the palm rejection is not great. I made a video about it. th-cam.com/video/LC4fHSTsrYo/w-d-xo.html
      Yes we should be able to write on MS notes, even though I haven't tried it though.

    I didn't realize how many aiding and supporting feature asus is putting out with this. Part of the price premium is definitely associated with this thought out software integration/development cost. I am more willing to pay now that I see it's not just another simple screen.

    Hi! I saw your videos on TH-cam and I'd appreciate it if you could spare some time, if possible. I just bought the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14 UX482EA. The website stated a battery life of up to 17 hours, but when I hover over the battery icon, it shows that at 68%, it will last another hour and a half. How is this possible? I read somewhere that it might be a battery setting. I changed the battery mode to performance and now it lasts 4 hours, but not at least 10. Are there any nuances that add extra hours? Can you suggest where I can find more information on this? Is seventeen hours actually possible on the device? I changed the battery usage mode to 'maximum lifespan mode,' turned off the additional screen, and made mode changes as I mentioned; it was already 4 hours. After a few seconds, 4 turned into 17 battery charge, now again 3 something. What the hell? Can you give some advice?

      In terms of hardware, we cannot upgrade the RAM, only the SSD can be upgraded.

    For this model, is it good enough to edit 4K videos in Adobe Premier Pro and also light gaming?
    Do you have video comparing between this model and the Zenbook flip S13 OLED UX371?

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use HitFilm Express for my video editing. All my footage are shot in 4K and they are edited to 1080p 30fps video to be uploaded to TH-cam. I can confirm this laptop is more than capable of doing this. Apologies on my channel I only showcase the tech I bought for myself, and I don't have Zenbook flip S13 OLED UX371 to compare. By the way, I think Zenbook flip S13 OLED UX371 only has Intel Iris Xe graphics which most likely will perform slower than the model I have. The UX482 model I have comes with Nvidia GeForce MX450 dedicated graphics. I have not used Adobe Premier Pro before, but I heard Adobe Premier is a lot more resource-intensive, and takes a long time to render.
      It can easily handle games such as running Minecraft with complex world rendering.

    Hi kindly tell me can I edit 4k videos easily with its i7 , mx450 version

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi SHOEAB AHMAD , yes it can do 4K editing, but will be a bit slow (1 to 2 sec lag) depending on the video editing software you use. I record all of my video clips in 4K and edit them on HitFilm Express, export as FHD to upload to TH-cam, and I do this editing with my Dell QHD monitor ( th-cam.com/video/M97wwlmamtA/w-d-xo.html ). This Asus Zenbook Duo copes quite well running the QHD monitor and editing the 4K clips. During editing time, when scrubbing through videos, you might need to wait 1 or 2 second for it to catch up. It will catch up eventually. So sometimes I use Windows Video Player to find and scrub through those clips before loading them into HitFilm to edit. No lag when scrubbing on Windows Video Player. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

      The keyboard area in between the keys looks like it's part of the main chassis. I couldn't really tell, it most likely is some form of aluminum. Pretty sure the bottom is plastic.

      Not sure about simulators but it can definitely run games like Minecraft. I have tried launching Minecraft on the second screen. Works well, just a bit narrow. The second screen is a full fledge proper second screen so I think you should be able to do anything that an external monitor can do, just bare in mind the height is quite limited.

    • @SkyPerspective

      I am not very sure, but I doubt so. Usually on laptops, only the storage and ram are upgradable, not the video card. This is because GPUs are usually soldered onto the board, I think.
