Hi yes, personally I think this is a better design, especially with the sabre grind and the swedge helps to lighten it. I hope they make some scales with a textured grip as an option for this knife too.

For me the Linder Trapper is the go. The back spine is perfect for hack work and this knife is much lighter but no less versatile than the Chaman and yeah now they are making in N690

I think if the Nieto Chaman you get is the one now made with N690 then it will be a good knife but I have to be honest here, the ER grips are superior for handling and the balance I feel is better all around. because the Nieto has a leather scabbard, u must def look after it, if it gets wet at all. Look towards the long term for many years of satisfaction.

That edge retention tho... sick. In my opinion edge retention isn't the most important thing in any knife, the design is. But heck its great when knife can go whole week working without sharpening. Great vid.
Strugglin'ToSurvive Yeah edge retention is great. I love how well my CRKT holds an edge, but knives that hold an edge well also take longer to get razor sharp :/
Yes and not many people state this when they test knives, ie when and how many times, if any did they sharpen it during their tests. I purposely left my marks on the blade (the black ink) where I noted when I touched the edge and it was just on one weeks use. And that was just touching the edge, no full sharpen, like 30 seconds because I'm crazy about deadly sharp edges LOL!
Yes that's true but with the lower HRC of this knife, it took no time at all to touch it up and if I had to do a full resharpen (doubtful after a week of use- unless totally abused) then I guess it would be much easier than my HRC60 knives i've got.
At the time of writing and producing this video they told me it was around 54-55 although for this steel I doubt it and it can be with the right heat treatment between 55-57 upper limits as you mention. Maybe there was something missing with translations as the staff I was speaking via a translator, my Spanish is worse than touristic Spanish and their English was about the same, so all communication were via a teenager (who I understand was not into knives/metallurgy at all! LOL!).
Hey Francis, have you got the new Nieto Semper Fi models with Böhler N690 in your hands? They sure have a very interesting design and look like a hell of a bargain for that steel. Would love to hear your take on them.

@@leggaschmegga4657 Hi there, I haven't looked into this model fully yet but whilst N690 would take that high HRC one will def compromise on the corrosion resistance. i know this from speaking directly with the technical staff at Böhler who said there would be less soluble Chromium to fight against corrosion, plus 60-62 it will be difficult and time consuming to sharpen. Maybe this is why they coat some of these models too to help fight the corrosion. It can be done but its a back at base sharpening situation in reality i reckon. Of course 60-62 for a mass produced blade really means it may get to 62 HRC not that the spine is say 60 and the edge is at 62. i'd believe this for custom jobs but not mass produced blades, i doubt it.

Interesting but I prefer knife with guards like the AMF however seems an all round good performer. 440A being the most rust resistant of the stainless steel in the 440 series.
Yes I think that is also a great knife, although I'm always at a miss as to why it should cost so much for a 1095 blade but then again if made in the USA that could justify it.

Hi, sorry you did tell me before and I forgot. Ok so a tropical environment I'd personally go for a stainless blade to help combat high humidity rusting up a knife. I know many machetes aren't stainless but that is of course OK as one would be using them a lot and they never get a chance to rust up. This Chaman macro is good but with a leather scabbard in the tropics it could easily rot maybe? Depends on how wet you would get it and if you plan to work in tropical rains etc. The FKMD trapper and or the FKMD Trapper 2 are good choices I think for where you are. What do you think about those knives? I've reviewed them here on my channel too. Or the Smaller Nieto Security SG2 is also a good choice with a very grippy handle.

I think the problem with 1.4116 is that quite often it's used in the bog standard cutlery industry for say making cheap (and not so cheap kitchen knives) and there is quite a lot of garbage knives out there. It's always possible that either the steel is not what they say it is and or the heat treatment is just rubbish or even non existent to save time and money, however, I hear what u are saying for sure.
yeah unlike the M7 which also has a rounded spine but which also has a very acute machined edge where a steel can be easily struck, it's not the case here. But one can use the gimping instead.

@@tiberiumnp8030 Does the WTG Campo interest you? No choil cuts like no tomorrow, acute spine edge but no exposed tang/pommel. Or you would never break (it's heavy though) the ER MK2.1 although the spine edge is not acute enough to strike a steel, no choil. I think longer about it for you.
I have the chaman xxl in n690co with black g10. Terrible knife... The handle is very square and narrow and tapers away, very insecure. Blade is meh. Obtuse tip, obtuse grind. I would stay away from the chaman line
Personally I don't mind it but the small version is not right as easy to bang up ones hands without a guard I think. These guys i did a lot of early "testing' for because they released all these models with 1.4116 then later after my vids with N690 same models, never heard from them again. Hi thanks for watching. The spine is thick for sure but the blade geometry I had no problems cutting stuff up with with and no worse or better than my trusty M7. Remember, it's not a filleting knife or hunting specific knife but an "outdoors" knife.

When I got mine they had just gone into production (I think?) for the N690 version of this knife.

yeah I was once not into the guards but there certainly have distinct usefulness for sure. AMF is a classic example as you give.

Hi supposedly they are making the same models in N690 but I have to say the steel here is very serviceable and actually held a good edge.

I see the rounded spine as a minus. Shame really, this was almost a perfect knife for me.
