A better twist would have been that he wasn't actually the Butcher, but just another random serial killer, but was afraid that as the police were searching, he'd get caught in the same web. Then he figures out who the real Butcher is, and blackmails him to help him escape. The butcher reluctantly agrees, but lays his own trap, where Josh ends up taking the fall, and the butcher escapes kidnapping his daughter. grim ending but hell ya.

If Shyamalan didn't have George Lucas-esque power, control and pretension, something like that could have happened. Or heck, even this version would have been polished up and fine-tuned to a point that would have put it up there with his first Big 3. (For me it wasn't Glass or Happening awful. A close third behind The Village and LiTW.) Unfortunately, he's shielded from constructive criticism or collaboration. Imagine if someone said, "You know all these parts where you think it's funny? It's not. Or here where the merchandise guy is spilling every secret? Don't. And hire a great actress that can sing. Your daughter can write the music. But not star."

Trap had a really strong setup (no pun intended). But it needed just a wee bit more brainstorming to further the plot. The movie didn’t know where to go. The first half, where the movie was restricted inside the concert was amazing! The moment the story shifts outside, there is no trap! The concert was supposed to be a trap to catch Cooper, the moment he’s out he has won! If only they could’ve included the people inside the concert to help the fbi or maybe included some backstory of Cooper’s victim to the plot and still made him win. Then the movie would’ve really taken off!

SPOILER ALERT: the premise is dumb as h*ll. If the mom/wife suspected he was the killer and collaborated with the FBI on a sting operation, why would a loving mom in essence let her teen daughter go to this concert with him with a sting operation where he could freak out and is liable to do anything to evade being apprehended like take the daughter hostage? So you use your own daughter as bait, not to mention you endanger the lives of 20,000 concertgoers. Great writing lol

She didn’t work with the fbi lol she did it anonymously thinking that he could possible be the killer. She didn’t want him to be the killer she hoped it wasn’t true. So she continued to live her life as if he wasn’t the killer and threat is set in reality you have zero understanding of human behavior and emotions. People will do crazy things that those from the outside won’t understand but make complete sense to them. Also it’s a movie not set in reality because if it was set in reality then it would of been over in 10 min which makes for a boring movie. Entertainment isn’t set in reality it’s just draws from it and is inspired by it. Stop thinking to much into shit and just learn to enjoy stuff you’ll be much happier but you won’t you’ll take offense to this and get all butt hurt I bet you just so much fun to be around always breaking down stuff and questioning everything ruining the enjoy, ent for everyone else.

    - the wife is gonna be in on it, right

Ending should have been Cooper hugging his daughter, and she slips him the wheel spoke, and he slips her a usb drive
We re-play the scene of the mom asking the detective what the early signs of Cooper’s insanity were, and she repeats that the signs may have been visible in early childhood but never again after.
We then see repeated shots of Riley acting strange during earlier moments of the concert, and show flashbacks of her acting out at school, threatening and scaring the “bully” girl and showing there is more meaning to that sub-plot.
We then see Cooper’s daughter finding all of her father’s remaining safehouses on a computer via the thumb drive.
One is highlighted over the others.
We splice the ending of him getting free of his chains with seeing the daughter open a door to one of the safehouses, where the mom is waiting with a woman tied up in a chair.
Mom turns the chair to reveal Lady Raven, tied up and crying. And we cut to Cooper laughing like he does at the very end.

Here's what another twist comes in if you notice the colors in the film where red and white Cooper was in red lady Raven was in white it represented Good and Evil Cooper with evil lady Raven was good so then when the time came for him to escape and he threatened her she reversed it back at him and he didn't even see that coming so basically she was the opposite of him
And this movie was not to promote her music career if anybody was paying attention to the interviews she says she only wrote the songs for the movie she had no intention of being in it her father suggested she should be the performer of the film and these are all original songs and not a copy of any other artists all of the music film belongs to the studio so she can't perform none of these songs outside of the Trap movie promotion because these songs belongs to the studio that the movie is produced by they own the rights to it
And if you was paying attention she has worked behind the scenes on his movies before and she was a singer long before this movie even happened and she already had a good night with career long before this even started the reason why people are pissed off is because all their theories were wrong and the fact that the movie didn't get ruin like they wanted now they bashing it
And if you notice it wasn't just based on the whole entire concert that she was performing because if it was she would be in the movie A lot more than she was in it less

The problem with an M. Night Shyamalan movie is. . .HIS FIRST MOVIE WAS A MASTERPIECE! With that said, "Trap" was far from a failure. IMO, the top 3 things about the movie were, 1. discovering Saleka Night Shyamalan! I'm buying that music! I loved every single song she sang; 2. the return of Josh Hartnett! Was that supposed to be a dad bod when he took his shirt off? Josh is like almost 50 years old. He could give Channing Tatum a run for his money as the next Magic Mike! 3. I love surprise casting. It was a hoot seeing Hayley Mills. As an African American, Sonya Massey shown being murdered by a cop in her own kitchen after calling the police to her home because she thought an intruder was outside her house, was devastating to watch. So, in the movie, when a serial killer is tased by 4 different cops, allowed to fiddle with a bicycle, then put in the back of a police van ALONE. . .I just thought. . .must be nice to have white privilege. Anyway, I digress. I'm glad that I saw it. It's worth the price of admission. I look forward to the next M. Night Shyamalan movie!

Shyamalan's movies are supposed to make children mental like the Sixth Sense did for the security state and Trap is like that too. Concerts are about fanaticism and violence and such so they can have an excuse to use more security on us as things get more chaotic. They're at a concert in the movie with a girl as they target kids for violence and securitization and prison. And thats why theres a murderer and the government security agencies in the movie Trap. Thats why his movies usually suck hes probably just an agent. Disney is a part of it. They do the same thing with schools and school shootings. They MAKE it all mental and they add security to get control of everyone.

This movie was peculiar af. Often times I found myself thinking: where is this going? Whats a red herring and what isnt? And the end solidified my opinion that this movie is to troll people who know that M Night is famous for movie altering twists. Everything that is shown which could open up backstory/future paths is always incomplete (Raven's asthma, the milk, m night's cameo). The tone of the movie is also shifting constantly.
This movie enraged me because M Night knew exactly what he was doing. This is a meta movie really. This movie is the equivalent of a poorly performed lapdance. Of a dick tease. It leaves you craving more until you realized that was it's intent all along.
Even Cooper making it out by the end with goofy ass music. Raven just breaking all tension by starting a god damn livestream. No action by cooper as the butcher being shown ever to make you question if he even is a Butcher given that the most damning thing they ever shown from him was that he kept Spencer in his basement, which is hideous but not something worthy of the title of butcher. So yeah, im pissed, but I also can't really fault the movie because I got played. M Night knows exactly what he did.
