My daughter who is 42 years old loved this movie. She played this over and over when she was little also. She did the same with Dirty Dancing. She played them both over and over.
But now Grease came out to movie theaters when I was 18 years old. I was dating my ex husband when he took me to see the movie. Gosh I'm 64 years old just imagine how many years have gone by and I can't believe years and years has gone. I loved the movie too so when my daughter would play either movie I watched right along with her.

This fantastic song along with "Hopelessly Devoted to You" were not in the original stage musical. They were written for the film by Olivia's producer John Farrar who wrote many of her hits. And you may already know that the title track "Grease" was written by Barry Gibb. Both this movie and 'Saturday Night Fever' were produced by the Bee Gees' manager Robert Stigwood which is why there is crossover with Travolta/Gibb.

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John had chemistry that was off the charts. All of the characters were so perfectly cast. Stockard Channing was and still is massively underrated. Her performance of 'There Are Worse Thans I Could Do' was, for me, one of the highlights of the film.
The second Grease movie was okay. I admit, I love the song 'Cool Rider' and the character Paulette Rebchuck was cool. (The actress is actually the daughter of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli's half-sister)

Did you guys know that JOHN TRAVOLTA plays "Tracey Turnblad's" MOTHER in the MOVIE musical of "HAIR SPRAY"? He was GREAT in that part and dancing in that fat suit could NOT have been easy. "TRACEY"S mother was traditionally ALWAYS played by a MAN, which was ALWAYS a hoot! I LOVE "Hairspray," "Grease," "Mama Mia" and "Mama Mia - HERE WE GO AGAIN," "WEST SIDE STORY," (the original movie), "BYE BYE BIRDIE," and all the other musicals that have been made into a movie in the past ("CAROUSEL " "THE KING AND I" "OKLAHOMA" "THE MUSIC MAN" "MY FAIR LADY" "THE SOUND OF MUSIC" "FINIAN"S RAINBOW" "SHOW BOAT" "CAMELOT " "BRIGADOON" "GOOBYE MR. CHIPS" (the musical) "PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" etc.

What's great about this song is that it's unlike any other. And, from the first notes, the bass sets the tempo, and we want to get up and dance.

I went to the premiere of Grease in Chicago where Olivia Newton-John appeared along with the Producer Allan Carr. Olivia was mobbed and sat in the audience. This was such a phenomenal movie when it first came out. Afterwards, there was a sock hop at Navy Pier where I met Allan (Olivia didn’t make it) It was so much fun. They gave everyone white socks to wear. Good times!

Of course influence can come from more than one place. I heard it on TCM that it was from Fred Astaire. Astaire wore different colored socks from his pants and shoes to draw attention to his feat...sometimes white but sometimes different colors. Astaire in "girl hunt ballet" in the Band Wagon was the inspiration for the Smooth Criminal video. .Also, Astaire was the one who told Audrey Hepburn to break up her all black outfit in one of her dance numbers in "Funny Face" with white socks. Again to draw attention to her feet.

This movie is brilliant on all levels and honestly I did not see any of the other Grease movies because I have no interest. This is a movie that you should not remake. They should have just left it alone.! Anyway, this song is awesome and I remember when this movie came out I was 10 and my mom took me to see it at a drive-in. She covered my eyes from time to time with her hands, but I remember those black hot pants that Olivia and John were at the end and I wanted those so badly. Such a great movie.

This was a fun reaction to watch, CoreyRoy is rockin' out to this song is such a treat to see! I asked the same question about the package of cigarettes rolled up on the sleeve, Fenom202 is right that is how they did it back then because their pants were too tight! Ha! Well, some of them, I guess. Olli, you are quite too young to know and understand why it happened at all, that's okay, however when I first saw that I asked my mother and she told me that sometime after World War II they guys would not carry the cigarettes in their pants pockets or else they would be crushed, so they were at the ready rolled up into the sleeve and sometimes inside their jacket pocket. I love the move Grease and I enjoyed your video reaction.
