Wonderful bass on this. I wonder if anyone shares my opinion that Robert DeLeo is one of the most underrated bassists of the last 20 years?
Wade Garrett Most definitely. As a bassist myself, he's quite an inspiration.
Heh I commented on the bass of this song on a different video also, and yea amazing underrated player
Wade Garrett Criminally Underrated
+Wade Garrett I've always thought this. He reminds me so much of John Paul Jones!
+Wade Garrett yes
Miss the hell out of Scott, Layne & Chris.
STP daily played
Don't we alp
Kurt
weiland especially
Me too! 2020 and still listening!
"I am, I am, I said I'm not myself but I'm not dead and I'm not for sale." I don't hear a lot of current music that have lyrics so simple and yet so powerful
YES!!! The chorus is playing in my head almost daily lol
One of my favorite lines in a song. also, nice fire emblem pfp
@@MrGuypi thank you! Canas is my favorite from blazing sword :)
Damn man I get really envious that Scott could write such awesome lyrics. The whole Purple album is a lyrical masterpiece!
1:01 - "so keep your head and keep your dong, just a whisper i'll be gone!" probably not the right lyrics but also so powerful 🤣🤣
In my opinion this is their best song, one of my all time favorites
I forgot how mind-blowingly good this song is. I remember not thinking much of it back in the day but now it's my favorite.
@@arsonne I'm a bassist and I was really happy when I nailed that bass line the first time
This is definitely my favorite song by them and that says alot i love stp
This song scratches itches deep inside my head that I can't even describe with words.
@@crazypatrickteacher I agree, they captured something unique that strikes right to my core
Don't even want to admit what I typed into Google to find this song lol.
I love my self I love my self
I am, I am, I’m not for sell … but tbh sometimes we hear the strangest shit and Google sometime be so CLUTCH
I bet it wasn't Alice in Chains like I did 😂
I typed "deathbed motocrade"
@@aldodavalost 😂😂😂
it's like they all gave their best on this track: Eric wrote the whole song, Scott came out with sone of the best lyrics he ever wrote and provided a solid vocal performance, Robert killed that hypnotic bassline and Dean gifted us all with a guitar solo that's hard to forget
Really good response from you! Some people just say I dig that song but don't explain why. You certainly did and I agree!
ain't that the truth. Features some of their best playing. Roberts playing on that is so JPJ it's like he's channeling him!!!!
Yep. My favorite STP song 🤟
Agreed, but this video is a lost opportunity. Its a meandering pastiche that doesn’t really say anything.
tommaso fuoro , exactly! So many of their deeper cuts still blow my mind today. The musicians are equally important, as are the writer, composer, back-up, and lead singer. The complexity of their music always amazed me. Be well! Greetings from Chicago-land 🍕
One of the best guitar solos of the 90s
Hell yeah mate bass also...
❤️
I was 16 when I got this album back in 1996 and man, 25 years have passed and I'm still hooked, masterpiece!
I'm 14 years old, i Love the Grunge
@@amaralxk you have good taste
My 29yr old son loves STP. I played this cd constantly in the car. I'd offer to play some other stuff but he'd always pick STP.
@@BeingforthebenefitofMrPerkins Apologies if you haven't already, but may I recommend playing their first album, "Core"? I was first exposed to STP when I was ~16 (thanks to Guitar Hero ("Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart from their album, "Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop" - my favorite song to the point I can 100% it blindfolded)), got instantly hooked, and got all their albums, the first of which is, again, Core.
While not necessarily a smash-hit, I believe "No Memory", followed by "Sin" is a solid 1-2 combo that capsules STP at the time. Slow, and not necessarily to-the-point, for lack better terms, but I find they just fit together.
I've also always been a fan of "Naked Sunday" from that album, personally. Now *that* song gets to the point in a hurry - almost uncharacteristic intensity from STP, in my opinion, but it absolutely works, complete with many guitar effects from Dean DeLeo and a driving background provided by Robert DeLeo and Erik Kretz on bass and drums, respectively.
Shout out to ‘96
It's sad that there isn't music like this anymore, songs that just make you feel stuff
Completely agree. Turning 45 this summer and I remember Nirvana, Tool, STP, Soundgarden, NIN, GWAR, and so many other great bands shaped my teenage years. The teens of today get auto-tune manufactured garbage.
such a terrible mindset
@@blowjoe8127fr, you should go out and search for music
@ Joseph ya brother we are the last of a great generation.
The angst and anger of the 80's and 90's never generated any actual mobilization because nobody came together to affect change so the zeitgeist became midwest emo and now we're just in the final stages of absurdist realization.
this whole album is a masterpiece

100 percent right about that Adam happy new years love ❤️ your comment omg wow thanks Loretta
Their best
Yes. From this to 'And So I Know' is a great example of STP's incredible musical variety that couldn't be pinned down to just 'Grunge'.
Stone Temple picked up in the 90s what the Rolling Stones left in the 70s.
Yeah, the Rolling Stones DID pick up some momentum with "Some Girls" ( "Emotional Rescue"? Not so much!)
Yo dude i see you in a lot of comments sections
I see you every where in alot of grunge comment sections. I'm starting to be happy when I see you.... Keep doing it. I like the consistency of it...

One of my favorite guitar solos of all time

Seriously, this song has one of the best guitar solos ever recorded!
ok, i love this song, but definitely no man

"Hold me closer closer let me go, let me be just let me be...." what guy hasn't felt this from time to time???
When life creates a bipolar effect in our souls because nothing makes us happy... Hold me, but let me go. The dynamic of human emotions becomes toxic as venom while the snake slithers around our ankles. I think Scott was feeling pressure of being a grunge icon when he made this song as testimony to his frustration of being something he wasn't. I get the notion his record label was putting pressure on the band to sell out? At least that's what I perceive listening to it.
He was definitively one of the greatest
Truth! 🍻
Robert de leo and his wonderful bass
ABSOLUTELY ALFONSO 💯 PERCENT
One of STP's best
Do you know what would make this better?
How about if the singer died on the tour bus while trying to pay his ex-wife her sheckels and the band just recruited "some dickhead" from the X Factor television show to replace him because death is FakeNews!!!
That would be totally rock n roll n grunge n shit right? RIGHT? :D
Fuck stp.
First Last Why the hate?

The drug junkie shut himself
As long as we keep listening and garnering new fans, his voice will be louder than its ever been
Those bass runs are tight. That guitar solo sounds amazing. Very simple and complex at the same time.
It's crazy how the age of grunge made the best bands and created diverse works of musical art. Like a Pandora's box waiting to be opened and present its existence to the world. 😊
I love them so much, one of my bands from my youth, when Scott died I felt heartbroken, Scott rest in peace brother.
Sickest Bass Guitar player.. Ever!!!!

So....you admit pirating copyrighted music then?
Good times, bands like this dont exist anymore let alone albums like this.......
Easily my favorite STP song. Words cannot express how happy I was when this was the *final encore* song for the reunion concert I went to in, oh God, what was it? 2008? I will NEVER forget Dean looking right at me while I was waving "hello/thank you" for the curtain call before the concert ended. Please forgive me if I sound obsessed here, but Dean matched the speed of my hand waving at him, so I'm convinced he waved right at me. IIRC, I even motioned my finger down to my head like "wait, you mean *me*?"", and he pointed as if to say "yes, *you*" before we kept waving at each other again.
Confession time: it honestly wasn't until Guitar Hero 2 that I ultimately discovered STP. My love for this song led me to 100% complete it, without missing a single note, also without even looking at the screen.
Sometime in the midst of my Guitar Hero days, I proceeded to learn this song on a real guitar, and it opened my eyes and my creativity with none other than Dean DeLeo as a catalyst; my best friend learned the bass for it, and we had such a blast covering it together (we'd 100%'d it together on GH, but that's a different story, but he's not with us anymore, so I have that much more attachment to this song).

Beautiful story op
god bless, my friend
That Dean solo is just the best! Gives me chills every time!
❤
Yep. I wonder how the hell did he come up with that?? It amazes me everytime. It's very unpredictable. When I hear it, I think WTF Dean? You aren't from this world, because normal guitar players don't play solos like that.
Why won't anybody comment on the killer drumming on this tune (skilled, inspired, and energizing). Staple part of its being so uplifting!
Could say the same about the bass playing.
The DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz are criminally underrated musicians.
Scott Weiland once compared Eric Kretz to John Bonham. Pretty high praise for a rock drummer.
Cause everyone is posting cliche RIP comments instead
BilisNegra He always has the best sounding snares. I own about 25 different snares and I'd say a good half of them are tuned to something STP.
I remember hearing this song for the first in my parents car just as we were leaving the middle school sometime in late winter. It’s amazing how certain songs capture an exact moment that you would otherwise soon forget. I’ll never forget the feeling I felt hearing it, too.
Those are the memories you'll have forever
This masterpiece and Sex Type Thing are their best songs. Powerful as hell and yet so emotional. RIP Scott.
That f**king bass line. It hooked me in back in the '90s and im still here today. Too talented of a band.

This is my favorite STP song and unlike most everyone else, I don't mind the video. Love seeing the guys so young even though I'm sure they were higher than fuck when they did it.
The bass line is amazing
Hadn't heard this song in some time and it just randomly popped into my head and then was stuck in my head all day so here I am lol.
Chords from verse to chorus are ripped from Zeppelin's Dancing Days which STP also covered so the guitarist obviously loves this riff. The bassist outdid himself on this one. Walks up whole octave on chorus. Amazing.
bass line very good
