    I love your videos - have chosen 3 videos that I train daily now in this corona time, where my studio is closed. I am an adult - never did ballet until 3 years ago. It doesn't always look pritty, but I love the training - and your way of teaching is just wonderful and helpful. Thank you so much

    Could you please do some pointe workouts? I am 14 years old and new to pointework, but I want to work on it a lot so that I can get to the point (no pun intended haha) where I can do full dances/choreography on pointe, and I think that you and your classes would be the perfect tool to help me get extra pointe work in. I know that it takes a long time to get really, really good at pointe but I am willing to work on it and be patient with it. Some beginner pointe workouts would be perfect for me, and I'm sure more advanced pointe workouts would be perfect for many others. I only started ballet when I was 13, and have been working on catching myself up ever since. Thank you so much for your excellent classes that I am using to build technique, and I hope you please please please do some pointe classes!

      There is on pointe workout on her channel, and you can do most of the barres in pointe shoes. Sometimes she says (only in the long versions) not to use pointe shoes, but when she doesn't just go ahead and put your pointe shoes on. :)

      I know this was so long ago and you probably don’t even remember making this comment but how did you get en pointe that fast? I’m starting as a 14 year old and I really want to improve fast. I’m just wondering like how many classes a week did you take? And was it really hard to get there so fast?

    • @lissa4750

      @@Bybelial A friend of mine did 4 classes per week at age 14 in order to start le pointe.

I have pinned you to my Pintrest tab in the hopes that other dancers will find you! If you have any tips for adult or beginner ballet dancers, please post them. There are so many of us out here, and not many classes, in the smaller cities. Thank you!

    Hi Katie. I notice many advanced/professional dancers such as yourself bend their knee and place their foot in fifth when closing a fifth from tendu devant. I was taught that I should slid my foot in on a straight leg, but so many professionals do it with a bent knee. I even saw a technique dvd from the Bournoville ballet school where the male dancer did this consistently. Is my teacher just nuts or is closing fifth on a straight leg a legitimate strength building practice. Can you please explain this to me? Is it just different schools? What are the pros and cons of straight knee vs. bent knee?

    • @26LGL26
      @26LGL26 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I'm not a professional ballet dancer (not yet :P) but I think I can still answer to your question. Your teacher is totally right about asking you to close in fifth with your knees straight, but it's unfortunately impossible for most people who weren't born with a natural turn-out. In that case, dancers are usually cheating by closing with their knees bent so they can achieve a perfect fifth position. However, until you are a professional dancer, I think you should try to close with your knees straight, so you can (ideally) get a perfect turn-out in a few years

    • @kathryn_morgan
      @kathryn_morgan  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sherry Wang Well you should always try and close with straight legs, but my legs are so hyperextended that I physically can't. If I didn't bend my knee, I would get as far as about 4th position. So that is why I do it! Great question though! :)

    • @Koljuska
      @Koljuska 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of my teachers recommends to lift the heel of your supporting leg when your closing - just a little bit (a few mm) to make your supporting leg "longer" and create a space for working leg. It's more of a weight shift and it makes you control your posture even more. I think that keeping legs perfectly straight (as it is requested) is physically impossible in general :-) I haven't seen a professional dancer so far who wouldn't bend the knee a bit at some point. I think we need to keep trying, giving up this thought of straight leg wouldn't help :-) And fortunately - it's not the main point of ballet, right? :-)

    • @olyooshka
      @olyooshka 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can only do fourth position with full hyper-extension and it pisses me off)).. If I could master bending it without getting the rest of me out of whack)) - it's much harder then it seems!!

    I had learnt ballet 6years ago and now I am watching your video to correct my positions. I want to enquire how should I correct my sickle feet when doing derriere positions

    • @solar0wind
      @solar0wind 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try to wing your feet, so you can't sickle. I also had and sometimes still have that problem, but you get used to it through practice. Then you do it automatically.

    Hello katie! Well I am not very flexible when i say not its really! When i dance i have an awkward movements because im not really that flexible i look like a dancing stick haha. I badly want to be a professional ballerina but im not flexible enough, should i continue? Please answer it. Thank you very much! By the way I really love your videos, you teach well! :)

    • @gimmepugs6826
      @gimmepugs6826 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +andrea javiniar A lot of people aren't naturally flexible. The secret is stretching, when you're warm. :) Whenever you finish class, stretch (Kathryn has a stretching & flexibility video you can watch to know which stretches to do).
      Flexibility comes with time and practice, and even the most naturally flexible professional dancers wouldn't be as flexible as they are now if it weren't for regular stretching. :)

    Does anyone have tips for how to relax your shoulders when doing port de bras? I tend to tighten my shoulder muscles instead of relaxing them and properly working with my back muscles. I don't know what to do :/

  • @Dindasayswhynot
    @Dindasayswhynot 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I"m in horrible pain (psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia) even on meds but Dr said I can try anything I want to. I used to dance and can remember how good stretching at the barre felt. I wont' be able to manage a gran plie' yet, maybe not a demi at this point.
    I'm brave and forge ahead on things but even this looks like a mountain to me (used to climb them too). Is anyone else using this who is really pretty debilitated? Or was at the outset but got stronger?

    • @olyooshka
      @olyooshka 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of warmth all over your joints, and support helps tremendously!! I am a dancer with autoimmune flares (during which I rest) and when flares begin to dial down to milder stuff - good neoprene ankle braces and knee braces plus leg warmers and something warm on my waist have carried me through the worst of it, considering I have had wise teachers - their daily routines actually have built me back up.. And correct stretching is key to everything, I had to learn to consider my natural imbalances and adjust accordingly, not repeating what everyone else is doing.. BTW i did a dna test for methylation and found a lot of my triggers that way, some common metabolic mutations that can be helped nutritionally and bring some relief!..
