    I took dance lessons as a child and a small amount in college. My daughter danced for years. As I age, I have developed painful hip arthritis. I started doing your beginner barre classes and my arthritis became much more controlled. Thank you for providing an interesting way to exercise!

    Please make more No Intro workouts! I got into ballet as an adult and can only go to class twice a week so I do your videos almost every day! I'd love to have more!

    I'm a 63 year old male dancer who has started ballet again after a 20 year absence. Your videos are SO valuable and I just love your arms! Also the way you start the back bends. I do the one without intros because I've never been able to follow the instructions! Anyway, keep up the wonderful work and I hope it's going well with your health. Cheers!

    THANK YOU!!!! I am 54 years old - a former dancer who has not stepped into a studio for more than 20 years! I wanted to find some way to get back into shape without having to stand at a barre next to nine year old girls on Saturday mornings! The so-called barre classes offered at gyms are dumb, and I am SOOO grateful to you for giving me a way to enjoy real ballet again. Your playing is wonderful, too. It all takes me back to the days when I was dancing, and for a middle-aged lady, that's a real gift. Thanks.

      I can’t agree with you more on the barre class at the gym!!

    • @annemelville-blackburn9390
      @annemelville-blackburn9390 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree with N/AN/A. Adult ballet classes are worth it, even if you go once in awhile just to get corrections. But...they can be hard to find. A ballet/tap/jazz combo class is no substitute either. I am blessed to have a great studio to go to, but since I can't make class right now due to my schedule, except maybe once per week, I use this to supplement.

      Oh, and at my studio, you wouldn't be the oldest. The mother of one of my friends is in her mid-60s and started at our studio at 62, no prior experience whatsoever.

    Oh thank you for this! I danced for 18 years and I have been out of college, got a job as a nurse, and am back in school again. The last few months I have been dying to find a barre routine. This is exactly what I needed!

    I am teaching ballet in Bluefields, Nicaragua. We have few resources available and I was excited to find your ballet instructions and the wonderful music you have selected. Thank you for helping me bring the art of ballet to an area that has so little to offer its young women.

    Thank you so much Kathryn for sharing this classic Barre workout. I love the music and your style is just simple and beautiful ballet, nothing fancy or crazy. I have seriously been looking for a routine like this for months. I used to do ballet for some years and loved it, but stopped for a while. I plan on doing your workout at least 3 times a week, it's beautiful. Thank you again. PS: You make it look so effortless, easy and relaxed, you are a beautiful dancer.

    I am so grateful to you for these videos. Dance was the only exercise I ever loved, but after graduate school, I had trouble finding a place where I felt comfortable dancing. I had children, adopted children, got a tenure-track position. Life happened, and I left it behind. But it feels so good to dance again! You are a truly impressive person, both with your talents and with your attitude of kindness and sharing.

    Kathryn, thanks so much for your wonderful ballet classes. I haven't dance in over 25 years. As a tribute to my late mother who was a professional dancer I recently started to do class. Yours are easy to follow and the music is beautiful. It makes me feel closer to my mom when I do your Barre Workout. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

    Your workouts are immensely helpful. I started dancing late in life and only have training in modern and jazz, but my modern teacher used to encourage me to fit ballet in somewhere for strength and she was so right about it! Thank you for the many versions you offer. I am still looking out for a Balanchine version though. I found your information on the differences in style very helpful. Blessings to you!

    I think the points instructors give dancers to remember in order to avoid common mistakes (e.g. Remember to not sink into your supporting hip or work through the parts of the foot during frappe) are very useful to dancers of any ability. Is there a way to incorporate this into your barre videos?

    Dear Kathryn or whoever reads this. This video is amazing and helpful for when I feel like training at home but want to do something else than the 'usual' exercices. I was wondering however why the position of your head is different than what we're taught. Is that because you're showing it to your viewers and want to look at the camera or is it a style thing? Thank you very much!!

    Thank you so much for all these videos, I have done almost all of them actually haha I repeat them from time to time hence I'm here. But while I'm here at least, I have a question, how do you do grand battements while keeping the rest of your body still,not having to bend your supporting leg, and yet the leg that is kicked has so much power and goes all the way to your limit? I always seem to fall over or do "lifts" instead of kicks and its obviously not flattering. Do you have any tips?^^

      Hi Katherine, try lengthening your tailbone toward the earth like there's an anchor hanging off of it and going into the ground while simultaneously lengthening your spine up toward the ceiling. Also check if your head, shoulders and ribs are on top of your pelvis, not in front of or behind it. Hope that helps :)

    HI i just wanted to ask if in balanchine techniqe you are not suppose to change your head in a la second because i LEARN CHACCETI and for example if i do tendu a la second and close it to fifth back i suposed to look to the direction of the barre and if i close to fifth front and the exersice is in right side and its my right leg going to fifth front i suposed to look right. i have sometimes classes with someon who danced in nycb and ofcourse a lot was different but this was prity similar the thing with the head/ so how is it in nycb? I also wanted to ask what you think about it, focusing in one ballet techniqe but at the same time (1/2 in week) also taking classes of another ballet tecniqe sometimes it does confusing but i also feel like it gives me things. thankes:)

    It is a basic rule in ballet that your arm is not suppose to come across your body in any scenario. This lady’s first position has her arms WAY too over-crossed. Also her second position is WAY too wide, she shouldn’t have to move both of her feet to change positions.

    • @rachelmerrill9051
      @rachelmerrill9051 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      C H I H U A H U A M A T E She studied the Balanchine style. Balanchine broke a lot of "rules" because he valued high amounts of musicality and large movements. It involves a lot of crossing in the feet and wrists.

    • @skytheterrible5087
      @skytheterrible5087 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rachel Merrill okay, but Balanchine is not a training style. Balanchine is most closely related to Vagonova ballet, in fact, Balanchine himself came from the Vagonova school. There are even interviews where he says that he didn’t break any rules, but just made the movement faster. Any of the so called “broken rules” are from American people who tried to replicate his choreography. Ever heard of B-plus? That’s what Balanchine’s students called it because it was faster than saying Croisé Serplas (sorry I probably spelled that wrong). The B in B-plus stands for Balanchine, as his American students could not correctly pronounce his name.
