Nice video. I purchased Amsteel synthetic rope from a marina and put 85 feet on the Badlands 9k winch 7 years ago. The homework I did, which is common knowledge in recovery community. That synthetic rope doesn't like heat. So I cracked open my winches for maintenance. I add red tacky grease to the planetary drive. After putting the drive back together, I wrap silicone tape around the bare drum. The silicone tape protects the first wrap of synthetic rope from the winch motor and planetary gear heat generated with heavy use. I highly recommend doing this for small atv winches. I have 4 winches 3 of the 4 needed grease from the factory. Bytheway, I put 85ft of 1/8" amsteel on a 2500lb HF atv winch. 1/8" amsteel hold over 2000lbs. I have used my winches a lot but seasonal, and they have worked flawlessly in the past 7 years. I used the factory fairlead, with rollers, because it was never used with the steel wire rope. But I eventually changed out the fairlead for a synthetic rope recommend fairlead. My 2 cents. Have a nice day.

Thank you for watching! That is a great point about the rope that contacts the drum. The rope I put on had a protector on the drum part, but it only made it about halfway across the drum. So now I will look at putting something over the rest to give that first layer some better protection. Thank you for the helpful suggestion and thanks again for watching!

My Badlands steel cable is getting too many burs. Just ordered a 1/2" 50ft. Should not be a problem if you can fit 100ft of that smaller rope on their.

How did that fit on your winch? Do you think it would have been able to hold 85 feet of the same half inch rope? That's what I'm planning on getting.

You didn't put any force against the new line when spooling it on.
That is why you don't have any room left.
The proper way to install it is tie the end of it to a tree and set jeep in neutral and drag the vehicle to the tree causing the line to be wrapped tight.

I was wondering what those screw’s were for

Make sure to hang onto them in case you want to change out your line. I used the longer of the two for this particular line.

I was given a used 9000zxr that needs some work, can you tell me the thread size of those screws? I’m going to need to source some on my own! Thank you!

Synthetic Winthrope won't look good on your winch . Because the sun will tear a synthetic rope . That's why I like cable a lot better

Both have their place and are good. The rope will get discolored eventually and need replace. Main reason I put it on is synthetic rope is safer when if fails as opposed to cable. I off-road with my family so anything I can do to minimize risk and possible injury is worth it to me. Thank you for watching my video!

@JKJeep I'm with you on the synthetic rope. I've seen steel cable snap and break windshields.
