Probably his most conceptual record to date. Every brilliant track comes together to tell a cohesive, relatable story of a disintegrating relationship.
cold roses has been long considered his greatest album. pick it up and enjoy greatness. also second love is hell. would also throw in heartbreaker and easy tiger.
Wow. It is so wonderful to actually hear an artist talk about their songs like this in such an intimate way. To Be Without You is the most personal song on the album, you can tell its hard for him to talk about. Thats why its my favorite song on the album because we have all been there at some point or another; hell, I'm there right now... Thank you Ryan for giving me comfort through your music and lyrics, you have truly helped me and for that I am greatful.
This amazes my wrap-around linear perception of the faithfulness( to the letter) that Ryan adheres to rendering my lyrics: I actually had not edited that thoroughly for the 30+ year accumulation of my storylines that he sourced…I see lyrics I would have rearranged….and Adams does rearrange musically and isn’t that a task with the volume of his production melodically ?
Brilliant and confident songwriter. I love this heartbreaking album. So refreshing to hear great stripped down songs instead of all the garbage that's coming out these days.
I've never met a true Ryan Adams Fan that didn't just know what the fuck was up. Kudos to all of you that share the DRA frequency. Gawd Save the ACoC. - Love Jack
This man is a hero, such a marvelous gentleman, never speaks Ill of his marriage even though Mandy Moore was pretty tough on him, to say the least. Anyway, a personal hero of mine for sure
You expect insightful analysis like this from an artist who, in terms of the consistent high quality of his work and, hopefully, a lengthy future of same, can already be considered, arguably I suppose, as the greatest composer/singer in the history of American popular music. You just can't find enough superlatives to describe what this guy is in the process of accomplishing.
Great piece, ruined by youtube inserting 4 ads in the 17+ minutes. Awful. Ryan probably would be able to write a great song about the mighty youtube interrupting art with needless commercials.
"Shiver and Shake" about the girl he dated while he was in the process of getting divorced from Mandy Moore??? Not buying that for a second. It's such a raw vulnerable song he doesn't want to publicly admit it's about Mandy Moore. Understandable.
Ivan Lendl it is about another girl dude. It's about Natalie prass. He dated her for a short minute after. He had photos of them a lot on his Instagram but took them down and she also did the same with her photos of them together.
Chris Gyetvai Ryan also told people on Twitter several months back that he he'd never listened to The Beatles until just that moment. And he went on about it for a few days. And some people actually believed that. He misleads - sometimes to protect his privacy and other times just to mess with people to watch them flip out.
Pretty much everything I want to say about this video, this album, and Ryan himself is going to sound cheesy and cliché, so I'll just say: This has changed me. Damn. Still cliché. Oh well. Still true.
I still listen to this album from beginning to end. Prisoner is a songwriting masterpiece.
Probably his most conceptual record to date. Every brilliant track comes together to tell a cohesive, relatable story of a disintegrating relationship.
This
To me, Ryan Adams might be the one and only new living link to the classic rock era. He has taken a little bit from all the greats and made it his own
Yes.
More on the center post than you may believe
This is an incredible video. So cool that he'd open up about each song like this.
16 albums in just over 20 years, all of them good, several of them transcendent, classic, and awesome.
I hadn't listened to Ryan Adams before getting Prisoner last week and I love it, what would you recommend as a second album to pick up?
consider picking up "Gold" or "Love is Hell". Some of his strongest songs come from those two albums and I consider them classics!
cold roses has been long considered his greatest album. pick it up and enjoy greatness. also second love is hell. would also throw in heartbreaker and easy tiger.
Nah man Cold Roses! Timeless beautiful album
Absolutlety agree... Heck even his albums with Whiskeytown are great!
I'm pretty sure I would give a vital organ to have such a loyal fan base AND write such God damn awesome songs.

Great album 👌
hardest working artist found him in 2003 so much music over the years love everything
So many artist will not be this honest with their records love it ! come on he never had a bad record
“Didn’t fit in my chest, so I wore it on my sleeve”. That’s an unbelievable line.
One of the best musical artists in the business today.....maybe THE best!
David Gena with u on that statement dude
Much too old to be a "dude" but glad to know we agree.
Jack White is definitely the best one right now, but Ryan is up there right behind him with Josh Homme.

Would loved to of heard the stories from all the bonus tracks
Brilliant and confident songwriter. I love this heartbreaking album. So refreshing to hear great stripped down songs instead of all the garbage that's coming out these days.
Thank you for posting this. I love hearing stories about the inspiration for creativity. Ryan Adams truly is one of the greats.
Hi mate just wondering where u stand with him now?
Great video.. Prisoner is one of the most precious albums ever
Incredible interview!
Brilliant dialog from Ryan. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.
Ryan is a musical and poetic genius. The end.
Ryan Adams is a genius.
I wish I could hear all 80+ or whatever many it is now songs of Prisoner ... I so badly want to hear them!
The man is an artistic genius - plain and simple.
I never comment on videos but like idk I wanna be like this album came out at the right time for me and I love it .
i hear ya. sometimes a record you wouldn't normally seek out just grabs you and says "you have to hear this now!"
I love this so much ❤️✨
One of my favorite pop-rock albums of the year so far, I loved Ryan's 1989 and this is a great follow-up to that!
Judezki92 1989 was a track by track cover of Taylor Swift's album actually. They weren't his songs, but he covered it.
I would imagine that since Judezki92 has heard that record that he is aware of that.

The Prisoner and B sides is a work of genius. I don't know how you can have more than 1 magnum opus, but he does!
B Sides are just as good!

I like this guy. I can relate for sure.
Banger of an album. Up there with Cold Roses and Gold imo.
Im cheering when he mentions Eddie & the Cruisers I’ve loved that movie since I was a little kid.
Awesome video!
This is brilliant!
me resulta muy interesante encontrar infos . sobre la personalidad de ryan adams, que permiten conocerlo mas allá de su obra musical ¡¡¡¡

Love the record except for the sound quality. It’s got some midrange sound issues that really makes my speakers creek a bit
So my lyrics from decades before you graduated from high school just came to you ?

I'm not sure he actually said anything the entire interview. Love the album though.
is it just me or the album cover does look like Santa Claus??
