- An exploration into the journey of building a home, the work of Whiting Architects and how their vision for the project has seamlessly integrated contemporary design into the heritage fabric of the original Brighton home.
This feature video and interview takes viewers on a journey through the stunning interiors of the Connect Six project, allowing them to truly understand the design and building process behind the project through the testimonies of those who created it.
We speak to Steven Whiting, founding director of Whiting Architects, and Josie Somerville, project architects on the Connect Six project, who give an in-depth breakdown of their process into the contemporary design that they've applied to their Connect Six project. Whiting Architects wanted to create a modest contemporary addition that perfectly matched the original heritage façade.
Ultimately Connect Six is a triumph in understanding the process of building and designing a contemporary home and integrating with Australian the existing heritage architecture.

One of my favourite projects, I love how the kitchen is almost hidden and nooked away. And that living room chair 3:02 is beautiful, the high ceilings in the walkway and the stairs all well done. Would love a part 2 of the full house.

This looks like an amazing house. Unfortunately, the focus on F&P results in a wasted opportunity. So many nice creative spaces are left unexplored. They got some fancy appliances though...

This looks a fascinating house but you only seem to want to show the kitchen. A proper tour of the house from the front to the back showing how it all fits would have been really informative. Oh well.

Another beautiful project. Clean and modern but also wonderfully complex, full of interesting textures and contrasts. This is truly what "modern" can mean in contemporary life. A little bit heavy on the appliance product push, but...

Nice but one thing I dislike about some of your videos is how you give the viewer a glimpse of some the design details but not the full view of the the project. How can one really appreciate what you are talking about. It's more to videography that architectural design.
Appreciate your feedback, thank you. It's tricky to capture the whole has just over a day (which is usually the amount of time we have access). However, we are pushing harder to get more of the house and even extending to two-day shoots for highly detailed projects!
I do not like the exterior elevation of the space. Its way to dark and sombre. The interiors though is exceptional, albeit totally disconnected from the exterior.
I don’t know if I would like those windows between the play room and the downstairs living room. Not a lot of privacy! Otherwise beautiful, love the staircase.

Music. If you (The Local Project) is open to feedback, I wanted to express that the background music competes with the person speaking and it's too much work to try to hear the words. And yes, I do use captioning, but I prefer to look at the house than spend all my time looking at the words; plus, it doesn't make sense to have to compensate for the music. I see this with museum channels too (Tate, Portland Museum of Art). I recommend checking out the "Hunting for George" channel. They play vibrant, upbeat music AND turn it down every time the host is speaking. There is great value in being able to relax and hear the person speaking. Thank you for considering this.
I was gonna comment about this. Editor, please do a better job. I don't know but I think it's common sense to know that background music shouldn't even be loud...
Interesting that for me there was a moment I was completely immersed by the melody in the background that I had to consciously force myself to pay attention to the images... the words, after the video end, got lost in my memory, just like the images together to any idea I was trying to have about this house floor plan and design... kinda like a dream, after wake up... Does anybody knows what music or composer was playing in the background? I'm really curious...

It is a great house in the end although my first impression of the front was rather depressing.
The way the interiors are presented they look way too perfect,with every table chair perfectly positioned at an exact distance from the table and other chairs.Life is not like that and even for the purpose of the presentation it does not make sense.It makes the inhabitants of the space rather boring and superficial.
