Great video! I had never heard of or used affinity before and now I’m hooked on making these silhouette portraits!
I’ve probably watched your video 15 times in the past month and found it very helpful to get started making these silhouettes.

Useful video. After seeing this I made several silhouettes which turned out quite well. I'll be doing a few more to try to improve. Thanks for your efforts.

Thank you! I am so thrilled to hear this! I hope you continue creating silhouettes!
If you want to sell them one day, I made a second video with tips for selling and details about how to set up your documents for easy printing: th-cam.com/video/wd4zd5tP-8U/w-d-xo.html

Really enjoyed your tutorial on Affinity Designer software. I do Scrollsaw work and wondered if these Silhouette patterns can then just be printed out for use as patterns attached to wood for Scrollsaw cutting? Thanks

Hi! Oh I love scroll saws! If you create your silhouette in affinity you can then print it, absolutely. If you're printing on a home printer, I would start with a letter-size (or A4) artboard and then hit print when you're finished!

Thank you for this video! Is there some way to turn the black silhouette into an outline? Sometimes I want a black silhouette but sometimes I just want the lineart of that silhouette without the black fill.

Sure! You can just apply a stroke to your silhouette curve, and then set the color to "no color" and you'll have just the outline. If you plan to cut your silhouette outline on a machine like the Cricut or Silhouette, don't forget to expand your stroke.

Great video. I do most of my silhouettes in Inkscap (free app) with Trace Bitmap option much easier, then I export them as SVG and complete the editing with Affinity Designer.

Definitely another great option. I like to create them completely from scratch like this, but there are tons of great tracing options out there, as well.

This video is not for a absolute beginner. I didn't even know what background, should ir be a photo background workspace etc?..where the oval selection tool was, the little nodes were etc...I gave up and now I am off to find something step by step...you have to know your way around the program for this video to be of use. I will come back when i know the program more.

Good luck to you. You do need basic competence in AD to create anything IMO.
