When I was a kid Willow Grove Park had 2 roller coasters - The Alps and The Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt had what was then the steepest drop in the country.
Piece of trivia. The shopping center outside where Old Navy and Rally House is was at one time the Willow Grove Lanes, which at one time was the largest bowling alley in the World.
We went to KOP mall after church at Valley Forge on Christmas Eve, probably around the time you were at Willow Grove. You gotta add Washington's Crossing to your places to visit. They have two crossings- on mid December and the following one on Christmas Day.
Went to Washington’s Crossing and absolutely thought the Captain would be there. It’s essential Philly vlog content. Was a great time this year, felt like the boats only just managed to make it across the Delaware fighting the stronger current
i grew up there from the 60's and then opened the mall (Bloomimgdales) grand opening. I remember the trollys stored underground and abandoned along with the park after the late 70's. Hanging out at the lanes. :) 70's and 80's where great.
9:13, i remember years ago a shoplifter jumped from the 2nd floor of the Staten Island mall & landed in the fountain below breaking both legs & ankles, & didn't get too far 😁
I remember when the Willow Grove Park was there. They knocked it down and built the mall while I was in college. They knocked down the bowling alley as well. Only went to the mall a few times because the other malls had stores that were more in line with my cash flow. Willow Grove always had the expensive stores.
17:13 KRS 1 is a nice dude ,met him before at SOB's in NYC years ago, we gave him one of is old official window flyers from the 90's ,he also signed the current window sign flyer that was up on the front board & i took that one home with me after the sold out show 😁
Hey PHILLY CAPTAIN, great video at the Willow Grove Mall..I recalled your last mall video there when Sears was closing forever..Merry Christmas, Enjoy & TOODLES..
I'm sorry but anyone who thinks that mall was busy for the day it was (Xmas Eve) doesn't know much about brick and mortar retail history. Considering most stores close between 4-5 maybe 6 that day it usually was our busiest day of the year besides the Saturday before Xmas (but we were open until 10). I can say our more neighborhood strip center stores were busier than the malls because people wanted to stay more local. We used to have to put cardboard up on those stores doors at 4. People would be banging, begging to get in for that one last gift. When we closed I have out bonuses and had a shot together.
You’re in my neck of the woods now.. Reliving my childhood when it was still an amusement park, but I remember it when the name was changed to Six Gun Territory
@ThePhillyCaptain What you said about the JD stores being in busy malls, actually applies to Apple Stores. I’ve never seen an Apple Store in a dying mall.
@@texavery711 true. and steamtown is not even a mall anymore really. Viewmont is still well alive though. would just be cool to see him check them out. Those malls he was just at were some of the biggest in the country(and deadest by the looks of it for some)
@@justinlalugski2083 I worked at Steamtown when it first opened, I think Steamtown is owned by the same outfit that owns the Lehigh valley Mall and the willow grove one he was at.
Hey Captain, I just saw on the Times Square NYE 2024 website that your friend, Flo Rida will take the stage. It will only be shown on the Times Square NYE webcast. He will be singing from 9:10 to 9:29 pm singing the following: My House, Low, Wild Ones, It's Going Down For Real, and his new song OMG.
There are some not so great things that happened there. First day opening armed robbery guard was killed. Also some one jumped from third floor to their death. I have lots of postcards from the Willow Grove Park. I only remember it closed then mall being built.

Willow Grove Mall is always busy. One of the few malls in the area (along with KOP) that is always busy
Love the mall videos. Keep them coming.

Captain, I was never at this mall, but was at the amusement park as a kid. Please keep doing the mall videos.
Willow Grove Park was a great place. There's a reason it went downhill but you won't find it in any history books....
you were 7 minutes from my house! Merry Christmas!

I remember Willow Grove Park. I fell down in a roller "ride" and couldn't get up. They had to stop it first... 😊
Good gravy
Rolling through this zone for recent history? There are 2 names you should know: John Philip Sousa & Horace Trumbauer
I met a friend there for lunch just before New Year's Eve. It was packed. I had a hard time finding a parking spot.

How often do you get a white Christmas in Philly? Santa’s been and gone here in Australia. It’s 9am Dec 26 as I type this.
I remember one or two in the last decade
They have weed vending machines?
Remember not to call it bloomie’s. Artie almost killed teddy over that

I buy things. I don't put it in the videos. It would ruin the surprise.
