ive been watching these type of shows alot lately its helped me realise how fortunate i am to have a job and not have to live not knowing where money is coming from for my next meal. Dont look down on those people less fortunate than you.
The guy has literally one thing to do all week to make sure he gets his benefits. Literally 1 thing he has to remember is to sign on and he still can’t do that.
Most of them are just daft wayward kids with no guidance. I've known plenty of adults who have done very well for themselves but I wouldn't want them too close to me, for one reason or another.

Watching this just feels very weird for me. I grew up in Wigan and was in and out of homelessness for years, I was lucky to have never gotten into hard drugs but I smoked cannabis every chance I got. When I did get a flat I'd never have enough money for electricity or to eat, would be a regular at the food bank and never really had anything that I could sell to cash converters and the likes. I took every job I could get, lost every job I could get, was just so depressed and fed up with life and lonely that surviving felt like more of a hassle than it was worth. This went on until my late twenties when I was presented with an opportunity by a friend to get out of the country, I figured why not, I'd moved all over the country at that point looking for something to make a life of, and if I left the country the worst thing that could happen is I'd die and fuck it who cared. 6 years later now, I'm the manager of a business that has grown 500% since I started, I live in japan, have a beautiful wife, and earn more money than I know what to do with. I have a kick ass pc, a nice apartment, and between my wife and myself we have about 30,000 pounds saved. I'm actually happy, really happy. I never could have imagined this was even possible. To anybody in the terrible situations that are portrayed in these episodes, anybody that feels utterly hopeless, I hope you find the will power to just survive, and if you're really at rock bottom, take some insane risk to change it around. If it doesn't work out then fine you're back where you started, but if it does, you'll experience a life you never thought possible. It's worth a try. What the fuck else are you gonna do anyway.

I don’t care what you think. These Grimsby people are lovely. Yes they have challenges and problems, but what a genuinely lovely and loving people. There are not communities that could stand up to such poverty and desperation with such dignity and pride. Most middle class people do not have the resolve and decency as they do. I hope my tone is not patronising as I say this with a genuine tear in my eye. I recall my grandparents and family from Castle Street and in am so overwhelmed by the live I used to feel within the family. I haven’t lived in Grimsby sunset I was a very small boy and yes I was brought up in an affluent middle class home, but what I see within these loving people reminds me of stoic pride and dignity that most people throw away for a few bits of silver without a thought. A great video, ironically I moved from Grimsby to York in about 1984, but Grimsby is my home town and I have great memories of growing up in the Town, a lot of thing have changed over the years some for the better and some for the worst, but I’m still proud of my home town and the place I grew up in. I also moved from Grimsby around 1984 and moved to South Cave (Off A63). I was not even aware of an East or West Marsh ! I lived nearer to the Cleethorpes end, we were much more refined ! ha!

People need opportunity to thrive. The system is failing these kids miserably. I never realized how absolutely privileged I was to go to school and get a decent job with prospects right after school. The people in these videos are no different than anyone else as far as their hopes and dreams are concerned...they just want a decent life...and for the fishermen (which is my families heritage) and any workers in now obsolete industries there should be retraining programs. Easy for me to say, but you cannot blame the people who go down if there is no help to hold them up.

I was unemployed in 94 for 18months. As the social deemed I left a job that paid more than benefits on my own accord, I was given £50 per fortnight to live on. I had a car and all its expenses, a landline and a wife and two kids to feed. With no disrespect, these losers have more than I ever did. After 18 months, I was back dated my benefit to one year. Never in my life I vowed to go back to that way of life. Never claimed benefits since. I fed them on beans, bread and potatoes . Never once did I spend money on drink or drugs in that time, family came first. I do hope the interviewed have moved on and done well.

Always a job for young men and even young women now days , get yourself down the recruiting office and sign up , joining the army better than living a life like this , with no future or money. At least if you sign up you will have money in your back pocket and career you can be proud off. I signed up nearly 20 years ago and never looked back. You never be rich being in the army but its not a terrible wage its a secure job . Your life will be better than this lot that for sure and it will keep you out of trouble , you just got to be willing to put the effort in thats all and not give in and quit when it gets hard.

Up in northeast Scotland working fishermen are notorious for blowing a lot of money on drugs and booze when they get back to shore with their money. It's part of the culture for some.

Always a job for young men and even young women now days , get yourself down the recruiting office and sign up , joining the army better than living a life like this , with no future or money. At least if you sign up you will have money in your back pocket and career you can be proud off. I signed up nearly 20 years ago and never looked back. You never be rich being in the army but its not a terrible wage its a secure job . Your life will be better than this lot that for sure and it will keep you out of trouble , you just got to be willing to put the effort in thats all and not give in and quit when it gets hard.
