New series. Documentary following travellers' constant struggle to co-exist with settled communities. Carol and her family cannot understand why her community is so hated and vilified, while local man Arthur is on a mission to understand what brings the travellers into parks and public areas - and Carol's caravan is his first stop. Johnny and his family live in a chalet in Essex but his non-traveller wife Andrea has had enough of feeling ostracised and wants to move back into a normal house

I'm only part Romani, I'm also Tahitian and Japanese, but I don't have a TV so I can only watch shows on my phone on TH-cam.
It's interesting how in the UK they spell non-gypsies "gorger", here we spell it "gorgia". Maybe regional thing, like "colour" or "color"?
I really wish all our neighbors had horses instead of cars! Horses are better for the environment and they don't use any gas. I'd love to see more horses, as long as they're well loved and well cared for, and they obviously love their horse Mary.

I'm an American that visited the UK last year. Long story short..forgot I left my wallet, ID's , passport, everything in my Mom's bag and her and my Dad flew out a day earlier. I was stuck with my phone and the equivalent of $25 dollars in my pocket. Asked a guy if I could bum a smoke since I was stressed and got to talking. Turned out that he was a traveler and by the time I finished the cigarette, he had offered me a home cooked meal and a place to sleep if I needed. Didn't ask for anything in return and didn't try to swindle me or anything. Took him up on the offer and it was the best choice I made the whole trip. Was able to share a great meal and be a part of their family for a night. They were some of the nicest, warmest people that I've met in my travels, so it blows my mind to see them being viewed in such a bad fashion. There's exceptions, but isn't there with all people?

I do have a funny story. About 30 years ago I had just began my career as a dental assistant. In the area I was working we has Gypsies come to town every year. My mom used to always say if I was not good she would sell me to the gypsies. Lol. I thought she was joking. I had no idea that gypsies actually come to town. And that year working in the dental office I was made a believer. Several Gypsies came in to the dental office and several had teeth pulled. And they negotiated the price. They got a deal too. After they left one lady said we got off good this year they didn’t take anything. That’s when a few of us noticed a big vase. Really it was huge. Would take two men to carry it out. But some how they managed to take that huge vase right in front of everybody and no one saw a thing. Lol. The dentist said heck if they could take it right under our noses they deserved it. We all had a good laugh. True story. Leslye

You have no right to it, especially if you're shitting in the fields. It is never acceptable to bury your shit within view of someone's house. The problem that no one ever highlights is that by living on other people's land, or public spaces, is that they are not paying the taxes that every other resident is forced to pay by councils and government. The tax we all pay is for trash collection, postal service and emergency services, no wonder they will not deliver the lady's mail. You can't just park your stuff on someone else's land, can you? There are enough places where (atleast here) they are allowed to go. They pay a small fee wich doesn't even come close to paying actual rent for a house but they pay to stand there. It is allowed that way. The owner's of the land have a small extra income, their land gets taken care off and the travellers have a place. I've never heard any of them complain about paying the small fee since they find it normal.

They bought land and then built their caravan village which the council bulldozed down because of people complaining over zoning issues. It’s like they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t !
I do feel for them. But at the end where Carol said she was going to have to start breaking into/onto properties because there was nothing else they could do??? No! That’s not right either. Rent a space in a caravan park. Don’t just squat on people’s properties You wouldn’t like it if someone walked into your caravan and just started sleeping in your bed or borrowing your vehicle without your permission but it’s ok if you do it ???

It’s owned by the city /council/ state/ parish/ country. There is no longer any land that’s up for grabs !!! If the travellers were like Carol and her family then I wouldn’t mind them camping on my land or “common” land around me as long as they paid for their own electricity/gas/water. I pay mine ...you pay yours. What’s not fair about my response ? Would you like to support another family? Do you want to have human feces on your garden? Pay for what you use

I live in Australia and my husband and I have a caravan and enjoy travelling in it , and we often stay in free camps, NEVER once have we seen human waste and or rubbish. Our van has its own bathroom and to say they think it’s unclean to use the toilet is an insult and stupid. The waste is completely contained and we empty the waste every day into appropriate iether public toilets or dump points. There are authorised free camps often close to towns that we support by buying our groceries ect. Many of us are keen to keep these camps and see it as a privilege to see our beautiful country without spreading rubbish and disease, because that’s exactly what human waste and rubbish spreads! To say it’s culture to be a traveler is nonsense......... if they really wanted to live that way show some human dignity and respect for yourselves and the community by leaving a clean and tidy space. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE to denigrate and rubbish land that doesn’t belong to them. For goodness sake take your own waste with you find the appropriate disposal point , and do it that way. They can change their negative perception by showing they have proper standards.

I am not a traveler, but I have lived in a van with a bed and kitchen in it.... love that freedom!!! After my kids were born.... when they move out I wish to regain my freedom. My hope is that love and compassion will become the most important human connection. We can love, yet agree to disagree... respect is so important.

In America, there is a saying.... pack it in, pack it out. When we lived in a van, we cleaned up the area we stayed, disposed of unwanted things at appropriate spots... the items left behind seem to be the BIG complaint, not much else.

As an Englishman who has lived in many places around the world it is very embarassing and disappointing how soft our once great country has become. Make it a criminal offence. Move them with force. Clamp and take their property. If they trespass and make a mess they dont deserve any leniance. This has been going on for too long.

The fellow that Ricky Gervais brought to prominence, Karl Pilkington, reminds me of these "travelers". He talks about neighbors having a horse in their house when he was growing up. He never went to school, the family would travel around to UK seaside towns throughout his childhood & his Father still steals groceries from a local store in Wales. Although he's never admitted to it, I think Karl's family was Gypsy.

Im from america. My boyfriend was gypsie. We couldnt get along because he was also an alcoholic and ive never drank my entire life. But i must say..he had a heart of gold. I find good and bad in all races and people. But we have lots of racial tentions here in america. I find in life i judge people by how they treat me..not by the color of their skin or their nationality or heritage. I thank god for the diversity of human life on this planet as ive met some wonderful people from all cultures and ethnicities, and i find they have enriched my world and exposed me to many things i never would have experienced if i were a racist person. Frienships comes in all shapes and sizes, and im grateful for that, as it has enriched my world.

the mess left behind really does feel like a middle finger to the town because travelers are supposed to be very tidy. The UK needs to keep it's promise and build the caravan sites then it will be very clear as to where travelers can stay for extended periods, and very clear where the villagers need to mind their own business

I enjoy learning about different cultures. What I can't wrap my head around is (educate me please), what's with the attitude toward camping parks or folks grouping up, or the lifestyle in general?

These countries/ communities wouldn’t have as many problems with Gypsies/ Travelers if they had more camps sites open to the traveling community like specific spots for travelers families to go. I know in the US people do live out if caravans and every type of vans but they have lots of camp sites/ RV parks the families can park at and use.
