    You younger generation make us oldies laugh. The 45 and so on landcruiser use to have a 4 pot in it originally before going 6 then 8. The 2.8 v V8 in stock form when towing out performed the V8 towing. And the auto does make better use of the torque curve v the manual.
    2.8 for me over the V8.

    • @unproadventures4142

    • @JarradDRS
      @JarradDRS 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You hit the nail on the head, @onedayatatime4232. The key here is the transmission and not necessarily the V8 vs 4 cylinder. Manuals in light vehicle applications are dogs for towing, but people are conditioned to believe they’re driving a Mack truck because of the manual and 4.5 V8.
      I own manuals, love manuals and drive manuals 99% of the time, but I’m not going to fool myself into believing a manual in light vehicle applications makes a good tow vehicle.
      Makes more sense to have torque multiplication from an auto, than slipping a clutch to get a heavy trailer up an incline from a standstill.

    • @thelonewolf666

      the v8 will last 30 years, the 2.8 about 6

  • @mtscott
    @mtscott 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    For all the less mechanically inclined…a gearbox is what’s known as a torque multiplier. So torque at the wheels is driven by the gearbox. Don’t need a V8.

    I think I would prefer to keep the v8 mate and that’s just because I’m stuck in my ways. This test vehicle certainly handled the steep pinch no problems at all. They are very basic cars that judo not come with all the hype of the other brands. I think that’s why I enjoy mine. That and the sitting position.
    It’s funny because Jesse is 2.01m tall and he prefers the 79 over the 200 series for long trips 😮.
    I think the auto and the 4 cylinder will be popular given how well you enjoyed the drive. Most people who buy them just enjoy the tradition. A great improvement would be the turning circle 😂😂. Have a great night guys.

    This 4 cylinder 70 series cannot beat the V8 version of 70 series, not even close. But this 4cyl will surely fill the market gap.
    Its V8 engine and manual gearbox make this vehicle even more lovable. It's a feeling that binds us to the vehicle. And the exhaust makes some of the best music I've ever heard.

    I had a test drive with the LC 79 2.8L, and it wasn't as fun as I had expected. I owned the LC 76 4.5L for 7 years, and after testing, I'll never switch to the 2.8L. Yes, it's pretty much a matter of personal preference, experience, and expectation, but what's the point of an automatic gearbox for severe off-road conditions? I still prefer full control over the vehicle. I'm always keen on simplicity rather than fancy features, which are mostly useless and overpriced. What would you do if your battery went flat in the middle of nowhere? I'm left with more questions than answers.

      You do realise there are Lithium batteries that can replace the standard one with deep cycle charging to run accessories. Invicta and Arb have been selling them for a couple of years. Or a slimline lithium behind the rear seat? Better than a heavy AGM under the bonnet. Why would ya???

    Good review! The 2.8 was fitted at the request of the mining industry which gets better life out of the prado/hilux mechanicals than they do out of the v8. Last yesr i was in Newman talking about their fleet and they said thats what they would like. Here we are. Ive always owned landcruisers (see profile photo), was the Toyota Australia auctioneer etc too, however i didnt like the 300 and got out of it at 15,000km, sold my 70 V8 and bought a SR hilux to see if i could live with the 2.8 and auto. So far so good. I like the fuel economy. Will i buy a 2.8 landcruiser? Time will tell. They are about $20,000 mote than the hilux. Thats a lot of coin for a live front axle. Yes the 2.8 in the cruiser has been beefed up etc. im gunna wait a year and see how they are performing. Meanwhile i will keep driving my fj45 to remind me of what a tuff truck used to be. Keep upnthe reviews 👍👍👍

      The 1HZ is still used in developing countries along with the 4litre v6 petrol. The mining company in Newman still had 2001-2006 landcruisers which they just keep rebuilding. Also new imported 1hz as you say.

    This new four cylinder Landcruiser is definitely going to slowly diminish the V8 Landcruiser for most folk who want a nicer more comfortable yet still capable off-roader - this will include the city based folk who have to deal with the stop start traffic and would rather have a daily driver and off-roader/tourer in one vehicle - I’d happily own a Troopcarrier auto for touring around Australia and city/regional lifestyle especially given the higher fuel costs for the V8 - my Hilux is a regional daily driver/gardening/touring vehicle (that’s three vehicles for the price of one!) - using the same four cylinder engine with an automatic transmission I average 10km/litre hwy and 12-13l/100km fully loaded with camping gear/aluminium canopy or around town - a lot of folk that just bought/ordered a V8 will be trying to sell them or cancel orders so it will be interesting to see which way the prices go for them as Toyota reduce V8 stock in favour of the new four cylinder auto.

What was low reverse like for holding backwards? Does the park brake hold in this model? Did Toyota fix the narrow rear axle or shorten the front to match? its not a 70 series its a hilux engine in the body of a 70 seires... disgusting money grab from toyota.. why wouldnt you buy a hilux... the fact they removed the air hole for the 2024 v8 version shows they want to make them all look the same and indistinguishable. 10 year wait list for a v8 70 series yet they are pumping out 100k units of these shitbox 4cyl around the world with no problems.. makes perfect sense.
    the shape of the 70 seris is so wel kown and they go for 100k$+ with nothing on them due to them being reliable as f**k Toyota want to use the known shape but put shitbox engine inside and sell heaps of them. Toyota has gone to sh*t
    it will drive well but the thing about having more cylinders s is physics this car wont see 500tho km. km easy not at all... gibve it 5 years and we will see heaps pf problems with these things in longevity. and they are pricing the same as the v8 so crazy
