    This answered a big question for me! I just got the Iridium and I've moved it to pre-delay. Here's a question:
    Signal chain: SP Comp -> Drives (PoT, OCD)->VP JR->Boost (CAE Driver)->Iridium->EP Boost @ unity gain->Timeline->out to mixer (1/4" or DI depending on the gig).
    1. Did you have to increase the mix level on your delays when you put them post-Iridium? I'm noticing mine get lost in the mix, but I've always had them pre-Iridium.
    2. Do you prefer the gain on the Iridium to pedal drive? Should I move the EP to pre-Iridium?
    Thank you SO much! Your demos were a big reason I got the Iridium :)

    Pre-Everything. I’ve switched it back and forth so many times. You can debate which sounds better, but I find the Iridium to be much more user friendly when it’s last in the chain.

    It is worth noting - If anyone is looking to run their iridium CLEAN ONLY, then the iridium being post delay and reverb can add an extra bit of compression to those fx (can be a good thing). The iridium then serves extra purposes of having the mono/stereo/sum switch being the last thing in your pedalboard chain.

    Great demo and playing. I think the delay pre Iridium sounds more vibey and swampy in a good way. Reverb definitely post most of the time for a lush and modern produced sound, but if you want an outboard, retro or surf, reverb tank type of sound I think pre is the way to go. So I guess it depends on how modern or produced you want your tone to be. For more retro sounding stuff a tape delay and spring reverb going in Pre is the golden ticket.

    This is similar to how I run my Stomp and Iridium together. I run into my Stomp first. Then I utilize the Send/Return from the Stomp to go through some drive pedals and then into the Iridium with the IRs bypassed. Then it’s back to the Stomp for my wet effects and then into an IR I’ve loaded into the Stomp. Great tones and inspiring playing!🤘🏻🎸

    Stereo effects after are a dream, like a studio setup. The iridium’s superb verb then models what a miced room or stage would sound like. I don’t understand some people’s concern for an effects loop. FX loops are a compromise made in real amps because putting the FX after the cabinet isn’t easy at a gig (unless you have someone running the board you trust). A loop would add little sonic value over the huge benefit of being able to place pedals after the pedal as shown in this vid.

      The concern for an effects loop would help me utilize the headphone jack when using the amp is not an option. Any effects on the sound after the pedal would not be heard.

    Great video. One thing to be noted with "same settings" on delay though is that the iridium compresses the hell out of what's before it pushing it up in the mix. When delays after it's sending a now compressed signal into the delay. Both ways sound great and it's just what you're looking for sound wise really.

    I use it both ways: H9 in front, Keeley Delay Station after depending on what I want. Good solution since the otherwise perfect Iridium does not have an effects loop. Nice video showing how you might want one or the other!

    For some reason the DM-2W is only come out the left when you demo'd it after the Iridium, but damn, the Iridium sounds so much better with the verb/delays after, rather than before. Great demo!

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that the DM2 has a stereo output and one of those is completely dry?

  • @erikhartley2494
    @erikhartley2494 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use it the same way for reverbs and delays as well HOWEVER, one solution for spread is to use a stereo insert cable PRE Iridium. The gain will still make it dirty (which is a sound a lot of people like) but at least capture the stereo spread. IMO the wet fx can get a bit sterile POST iridium without any sort of preamp before them.

      Headphone direct from iridium sounds great, headphones from the time-line using iridium sounds flat to me, I do not why

    • @KYDY
      @KYDY 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@felipegomabrockmann2740 The Iridium has a headphone amplifier, which probably has a low output impedance in order to drive headphones properly. If you plug headphones directly into the Timeline's output, its impedance is 100 ohms which is too high for many headphones and will color the response.
      A way to fix this would be to use a headphone amplifier (doesn't have to be expensive) after the Timeline.

    • @SPaulAndrewMaertens
      @SPaulAndrewMaertens 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My less professional opinion: after totally works great and is way better for practicing with headphones. It depends on how much drive/gain you're pushing through the iridium I think (and what sound you're trying to get). If you have it before your delays, you need an audio interface to be able to listen to the full chain including delay and reverb and that might defeat the purpose of your having the pedal in the first place. Something to consider.

    • @isaacyork3854
      @isaacyork3854 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I am interested in the iridium but I love my delay and and reverbs and am worried with this unit having no effects loop. I was interested in the simplify but saw the effects loop was noisy when you demoed it.. so my question is..with High gain stuff does the iridium handle delays etc or do they distort?

  • @BadMofoMusicCritic

    Seems like the Iridium can't handle multiple signals very well. I've tried looper into Iridium and I get digital (bad kind) distortion on my dry signal through.
    Other way around and it's way better.
    However, if you run anything mono from or after the Iridium, you will lose your stereo room effect. I've just ordered stereo delay and reverb pedals.

    Thanks for the fantastic video! It is true that when you put the Iridium at the beginning of your modulation effects chain, the result is more clear, but due to the output of the Iridium headphones, you lose the option of being able to listen to all the effects. although if you are practicing at home you can always use the headphone output of your audio interface, right?

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeh exactly. I guess both ways can work, it's generally with higher gain tones that I don't really like how the delay takes over and distorts!

    • @ajbolick08
      @ajbolick08 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you have a delay and reverb that can handle line level, the output on the Iridium has more than enough volume to drive headphones through the post effects' own stereo outs.

      I’ve been trying to wrap my mind around it since getting the HX Stomp last month. So far I’ve typically ran my FX loop with Delay/Reverb pre amp/IR and then I’ve been running a reverb on the HX Stomp as well post amp/IR. I’m not accustomed to using amps with FX loops and it’s quite a different sound playing live especially for me. The more I get used to it the more I think I’ll end up moving my loop to post but all my Volante presets will need to have the mix adjusted so I’m putting it off.

      Should work. I use the ms3 loops to switch between my Katana's preamp and a joyo American, (so I can't see why you couldn't use the Iridium like that too). With ms3 time effects after the loop block and with the stereo out going into my Tempus and into a stereo IR loader (Mod 5 rockboard). Worth checking it out but if you've got a decent preamp etc and ir pedal maybe you're good already! That’s what I mean, it sounded much better post iridium. There are times when I actually might like reverbs and delays to have the compressed and gritty sound and then it would make sense to use it but usually I’d opt for clarity. I kinda wish it had an actual effects loop so you could do post preamp and pre cabinet. Because although the clarity is there post iridium I feel like reverbs and delays after a cab sim sound unrealistically huge and are hard to fit in a mix. The cab takes me down a bit. Anyway, I’m a junkie for this crap so I’ll probably end up with one anyway. Haha

It sounds weird, not like yours. I have an immerse mk2 which has a sum to mono feature which i use to record mono to my interface. It does not sound like how you have it in this video. @@johnnathancordy Thanks! Have you used iridium on a live situation? Did you sum it or send the stereo signals to FOH?

    Just wondering how you ran the delay after the iridium? I have attempted this and found the delay/reverbs to be very quiet and not at all the same volume lvls as pre iridium. If you can give your experience of running post iridium it would be greatly appreciated

      Isn't there a line/level switch on the Volante? Try that. Also naturally the delay and reverb mix will be less than pre iridium as there's no compression post iridium?

    What speaker cab are you plug into ?

      The iridium runs straight to an interface and can’t run to a cab, it can run to a powered speaker or a PA but not a speaker cab.

    • Place Iridium before time-based effects for a different tonal
    character if you prefer.
