  • Welcome to my vintage cookbook TH-cam channel!
Today I'm making Festive Canapés, a recipe from Pillsbury's Convenience Cookbook.
I'm so happy to share my love of mid century cooking and old recipe books with others. I'll be cooking vintage recipes, sharing cookbook reviews, and even showing off my latest vintage cookbook hauls every now and again. I'm cooking through history and you're invited!
Follow along as I prepare a recipe from one of my many vintage cookbooks. Will the results be delicious, or disastrous? There's only one way to find out. Thanks for checking out my vintage cookbook review and recipes and joining me in my vintage cooking corner.

Every year I still make a huge batch of 'home made' Chex Party Mix and include Cheerios like from when I was a kid. Gotta love those dark, sticky, almost burnt salty blobs from the bottom of the roasting pan.

I make mini hash brown frittatas with cheese, spinach, cherry tomatoes and of course eggs that are very popular. They're great as an appetizer or a side at brunch.

Nobody is more terrified than we are when we have to open up a can of biscuits! It's like a dough bomb in there that needs to be gently defused. We'd send in the robots to do the opening for us if we had that kind of thing available to us. Balloons are kinda scary too. Hmm... reading this comment objectively, guess we're kind of wusses 😁 This was another fun to watch, even if the Canapés slightly disappointed. And love that apron!

It was the most powerful biscuit explosion I’ve ever experienced! Really happy it was captured in camera. 🤣 I kept making changes to this recipe in my mind (swap the biscuit dough for puff pastry! more seasoning in the sour cream!) until it was something completely different. Oh well! Can’t win ‘em all in the appetizer game. Thank you for watching!

Hi Anna, thanks for the videos. I think I was almost as shocked as you with the biscuit roll. You did a great job with showing this cookbook. I had a great time watching! Although the recipe was lackluster (not your fault!), your video was awesome. So are you! If I’m feeling down, I know I can visit you. Your smile and warmth always make me smile. Have a great day! 😊🌸🌷

I put the biscuits into a cold oven, and by the time the oven is preheated, the biscuits are done, has worked for me for years. Then having the oven warmed up makes you want to make something else, in the winter time anyway. I am going to absolutely HOWL with laughter if I ever get to see you accidentally blurt out" wow this sucks!" ROFL!!!!

Okay so I’m late and just found you and I am having SUCH fun so thank you.
Crescent roll hot dog things and not using all the crescent rolls. My people like hot dogs and I do not.
I’ve wrapped ham and cheese in the crescent rolls too and they really do reheat incredibly well in a toaster oven OR spinach dip OR cream cheese and pepperoni, red peppers, olives (I’m with you on raw onions. Hard nope lol)
But the BEST thing I ever made with ‘extra’ crescent roll dough was slathering with melted butter, sprinkling with cardamom/cinnamon sugar and a bit of raspberry jam and rolling them up.
Not vintage but, main course and dessert all from one package. I think my grandmothers would be proud 😂

I enjoy when you go through these vintage cook book ideas dinner for a vip untill the early 80s my dads boss and my dad would all get together for dinner . it was common through the 60s and the 70s also bridge and recipies for a bridge gathering was popular among young couples from the 50s till the early 70s parents and their neighbor friends used to always have a monthly or even a weekend bridge party and you would serve a deseert or finger sandwhichs . teen parties Why yes i always went to a teen party and my mom would have them . Burger bundles stuffed with cheese cookies cheese cake and themed parties for Halloween and Christmas school breaks . that was how life was back then i was born in 1963 grew up as a child in the 60s and 70s and all these commmon pratices were always done . Jewrely parties and football parties and tupperware parties my mom would host with alot of food many were believe it or not made by pilbury cressents rolls aand other things like taking the dough from cressent rolls and bakinng it off in a pan and then covering it in a vegetarian creamcheese spread and many other recipies i remember . sadly we dont socialize like our parents did our grrandparents . we just dont have those gatherings anylonger . back to bridge quickly as it faded only people like my grand parents would still gather .card parties with a spread my mom would make also took over bridge gatherings just a breif history about those olden times . my favorite holiday snack are magic cookie bars . enjoyed this video . great job

Wow, when that tube blew, it really went! Between that plus a cookie down, plus Dottie complaining about how tough the biscuits were, this might be my favorite holiday video of the holidays. Obviously I don't have that book in front of me, but just from watching what you were flipping through, I was having a heck of a time placing its era... some things looked totally like you said, maybe early 70s, but then some of the photos- like the superprop woodenspoon series- looked way later to me, and then some of the graphic art felt like a full decade earlier. It's a weird one! Got some interesting stuff in it anyway. Like I say, this one's making my holiday tops list. Great video Anna, as always.

That biscuit can was out to get me, I’m sure of it. These Pillsbury booklets are sometimes puzzling when it comes to publication year! This one had some strong similarities to The Busy Lady Bake Off from 1966. My guess is between 1968 - 1973 maybe? So glad you enjoyed this one! 😁

Don’t know if it’s because congestion agrees with you or that festive canapés are the most exciting thing, but so glad to have seen this one! I would like to make a good modern version of this recipe. I may experiment since holidays are approaching. Thank you, Anna.
