Also worth checking your skates. New beginner skates often have very tight wheel nuts and the wheels don't spin unless you lose the nuts. Also, rubbish bearings don't help with a roll. And yes, don't "bend your knees." Relax them - that's enough.
"5, 6, 7, 8, find the outside of your skate", "outside, together, outside, together", are my new mantras for the next few months as I continue to relearn how to skate. Just got back to it after 25 years, and lemme tell ya, it is NOT like riding a bike. Phew! This body is radically different these days, and I don't' know what the hell to do with it when it is on 8 wheels! This is a great video, thank you I will certainly play it before I lace up!
I love this! Thank you so much for posting. Im just coming back from a big fall....and this basic thing helped keep me out of my head and keep rolling.
Hi. I just had a big fall this weekend. Fell right on my tailbone HARD! I can barely move. 😩 How long did it take you to get back at it? I'm so scared to get back at it.
This was super useful. I am reasonably comfortable skating forward but this really helps me feel more in control and flowy. I think it makes me look better at skating than I am!! 😁
Hi Dirty Deborah. I'm very happy for you for your roller skates boots on TH-cam video. My answer is yes. I'm your side. I'm always support you as your roller skater. Thank you? I love you?
Hi Debbie as a kid I was always at the rink every saturday.I want to start again.i am now 70 im In good shape.I just purchased new skates.Im watching you everyday.Im nervious.I'll let you know how I do.Your helping me greatly. KEEP TEACHING.❤️
This was so helpful ! I can glide a few second on each foot but it still didn't feel natural and I was wondering why. Next time I go to the rink I'll practice finding the outside edge because I definitely wasn't doing that. Thank you so much for being helpful!
Thank you! Part of my problem is there are cracks between each section of cement in the back area of our apartments and I’m having trouble timing the steps of this video with stepping over the terrifying cracks. 🤣
You rock…and roll! Thank you for reminding me how much I love skating. It’s been over three decades since I’ve been on a pair of skates but I am having so much fun. You make me laugh all the way to the ground! 😂 What indoor drills are good for small spaces?
Thank you! I am back skating as 57 after a bad rink fall. Feels like starting over, this video was great. (I've seen all of your videos) What helps is when you turn from the camera. It's like follow the leader. I'm a visual student. I love your face lol but really get it faster when I can see 👀 your steps.
Deborah, why i just couldnt move smoothly when backward sissor(lemon). always stop halfway n not able to do a full one. was it due to my leg is too weak.. i am already 58yrs old.
Crossover question..and it sounds silly...but....do you actually have to cross your feet over to do the "cross over"? I've seen others( myself included) where the feet are more in line with each other at the crossover point. Is this acceptable? Or maybe its just style?
I feel like a good way to get over that initial fear of falling is to put on your padding and just... Fall a few times. I remember my sister telling me over and over, "it won't hurt! Just fall." And it took me a week to actually do it. When I did, it took that fear away immediately. Padding is there to protect you during those falls, and sometimes, you just need to use them on purpose to get the hang of them. This is just my advice, though. Deb has a lot of videos on here that are super good for getting over fears n stuff; Helped me get past the barrier of not wanting to move, LOL
Objects always roll downhill... throw your hands in the air - wave 'em like ya just don't care! Just be sure there's a grassy place to crash, I mean 'come to a stop', at the bottom of the aforementioned hill 😉😂
? I have a hard time practicing backward skating with gummy wheels outside. ShouldI I be on hard wheels or gummy for outside practicing moves? Is it easier in rink with hard wheels to learn moves?
Soft wheels are for indoor for smoother surface like wood or sports tike so they can grip. Hard wheels are for concrete or asphalt to prevent the wheels wearing out so fast.
I'm pigeon- toed, and I imagine this is why it's hard for me to roll forward. I'm actually going to have to try rolling my whole foot outward, and then pushing out. Otherwise, I push and go absolutely nowhere, lol
YOU SAVED MY LIFE 🎉 genius way of teaching!! I have been binging every video on TH-cam and only now I get it. when I practice it just happens that I get things right but I can't explain why so I can't decide when and how to replicate them. thank you so much ❤ you got me hooked on your channel after one video🛼💙💪🏾

Ha! Same.
Same same same!
I'm actually going roller skating tonight...first time in over 40 years. Gonna take your advice and see what happens!! Thanks for the vids!!

You're an awesome teacher. My daughter is 6 and she has got the mechanics of skating because of 2 of your videos. Good job

My lovely teacher it was really fantastic
Grew up on inlines but this is only my second time on quads and this was so helpful! Thank you
Dirty Im just starting to skate after many years. I'm working on balance how do I overcome this fear of falling
Hi Dirty Debbie, you make me so happy when I watch your videos
I love all your videos. Do you have a written list of levels and names of the different steps we need to learn to be a great skater like you.
Thanks for putting these videos together…skate fairy godmother ,magical things happening 🛼
Thank you! Part of my problem is there are cracks between each section of cement in the back area of our apartments and I’m having trouble timing the steps of this video with stepping over the terrifying cracks. 🤣
This lady taught me how to roller skate 🛼!!!! I’m doin spins!!
exactly the info i needed! first google result 👍
Thanks!
Thank you for teaching skating ❤
You rock…and roll! Thank you for reminding me how much I love skating. It’s been over three decades since I’ve been on a pair of skates but I am having so much fun. You make me laugh all the way to the ground! 😂

Thanks Debs, great tutorial as always. I find all of your beginner guides very helpful and motivating.
Fantastic tutorial “love it” 👏 👏 👏
This is excellent - thank you.
Idk about anyone else, but I would love a video on ankle protection. Seems like every time I fall, my ankles touch the ground first X.X

Can I skate at a school on a running track?
I recently switched to rollerblades and i wish someone could teach me like you do, you explain so well 👑

I need another lesson in forward and backward cross pulls. I mean to say I suck at cross pulls . Please help! 🙏
❤❤

I need the answer for this too because it’s been yeaaars and my crossovers are still trash 😅
Excellent.
Sounds so good and easy. I guess I need to fly out and take a lesson. I need a lesson on FEAR OF FALLING.
I feel like a good way to get over that initial fear of falling is to put on your padding and just... Fall a few times. I remember my sister telling me over and over, "it won't hurt! Just fall." She has a video on how to fall and one about fear of injury 👍
Thank you Debbie! Love you! ❤

I love this.
Does this work for backward skating too?
안녕하세요~~~~ 영상 잘 보고 있습니다. 좋은 하루 보내세요^^

Soft wheels are for indoor for smoother surface like wood or sports tike so they can grip. Hard wheels are for concrete or asphalt to prevent the wheels wearing out so fast.
The problem is that I don’t have a big space in my room and I don’t have the bit where I can make myself free
Commenting for the algorithm! 😅💜

5, 6, 7, 8 😊😊😊
Awesome 🤩 🛼💯
Thanks 🤗
It's not that I can't roll I can't turn on ice skates I can but these dum dums just want to go straight. What is going on?
