    Another great anecdotal story of the rise and decline if not fall of the finest State Institution not Department to be fair.As a Civil Servant I started my career in Pak Railway Accounts Service in 1975.The rot that rapidly engulfed PR had just set in and as Salman Sahib rightly pointed to ' brick by brick distantlement of Institutions' is sad saga of our country.

    Such an sorbid tale of Mandi Sadiq Ganj. I prey that the Railway in Pakistan regain its lost status.. it's part of the heritage and must be preserved.

      Pakistan Railway can never be a profit making entity unless National Logistics Cell and much of the powerful transport mafia are abolished.

    As far as I know, you belong to a railway family, and so do I. I have been enjoying your articles pertaining to NWR published in various newspapers. Very informative indeed.
    I'm deeply perturbed & shocked to see the current state of affairs of our railways. As I gained sense, I saw railway tracks at my doorstep. My father served as VCO/PWI in the Indian Maintenance Engineers Company of British Indian Army in WW II. Later, he joined NWR as APWI as the war ended. Therefore, there exists a strong bond between me & our railways.
    Please share your experiences with us to reminisce on the good old days of our railways. Thanks a lot. Stay blessed always.

    The 'Bamba mail' is a bit strange. There was (and is) a Punjab Mail which runs between Mumbai and Firozpur. In the pre-independence days, it went to Lahore, but via Kasur, and nowhere near Mandi Sadiq Ganj. It was GIPR's attempt to rival the BB&CI's more famous Frontier mail (now called Golden Temple Mail, terminating at Amritsar)

    @odysseuslahori
    Salman Saheb. Another great story. Thank you
    I have an NWR time table from pre partition days ( October 1946) and several more from 1950s. McLeod Ganj certainly had 8 up and down trains going through it in 1946 - but there was no Bamba Mail. As you have also alluded that railway employee may have been mistaken.
    There was a Bombay Express and a Frontier Mail but they both crossed (present day) border at Wahga-Atari.
    There was a Bombay mail but it had a Delhi-Bombay route so that wont come to McLeod Ganj
    There was atleast one passenger train in 1946 between Fort Abbas and Ferozepur via McLeod Ganj but it had a 20+ min stop at McLeod Ganj so it cant be that 2 min stop express train
    Now - from nearby Gandasinghwala several fast express trains e.g Punjab Mail and Rawalpindi Express crossed over between Raiwind-Kasur and Ferozepur and to Bhatinda.
    It is possible the old railway employee you talked to had memories of that route and mixed it up with McLeod Ganj.
    I am your big fan Sir., and I have seen each and every video you’ve posted. I eagerly wait for your new posts every week.

    Not sure how important the line between Bathinda and Hindumalkote was in pre-independence India, but the line was extended southwards to Sri Ganganagar, which now sees fairly heavy passenger traffic, and is in the process of being electrified(but not doubled)

    Very nice episode sir. This station looks very similar to older stations in Rajasthan places like Sikar, Junjunnu. North Western Railway exist in India HQ in Jaipur.
    Pakistan should develop railways, its cheaper and convenient for general population.

      The station design was a British template. Most stations in one part of India were from one template.

    Sir Jaipur now has headquarters of North western railways.
    Second I m still not able to understand how an Army man decides against railways. We see lot of military hardware moves by trains and second thought is that development of railway by britishers in Indian sub continent also had military aspect.

      The old HQ of NWR was Lahore. That premises is now the HQ of PR.

    • @ranban282
      @ranban282 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The NWR of India has nothing to do with the NWR of Pakistan. India's NWR was carved out in 2000 from the Northern and Western Railways of India, which in pre-independence India would have been the Jodhpur, Bikaner & Jaipur State Railways, and a bit of BB&CI.
      The erstwhile NWR on the Indian side would roughly correspond the Ambala, Firozpur and a bit (or most?) of the Delhi division of IR's NR zone. The border between the NWR and EIR was at Saharanpur, where some of my ancestors decided to settle.
