I'm currently watching this while the crew is on the Alaska cruise. The idea was hatched here. That is awesome because it wasn't recorded that long ago.
Wow! So the Alaska trip we’ve been hearing out for the last three weeks was hatched out of Just idle chat on this episode? Nice to have the ability to just pull one of these things out of your hat like this!
My wife and I are going on a Disney cruise this July. It will be our 3rd time and we love Alaska. We have thought about taking a cruise with a different company. Thank you for your opinion that DCL is the best option. The Jewel Garden was a memorable time for our family as well. We were fortunate to get a session with the owner. The keepsake ornament is a treasure that will last a lifetime. Enjoyed your show, but wish I had found it earlier.
We did the Sapphire Princess Cruise Ship to Alaska. At the time of our sailing. The ship was only three years old. We had an outside and indoor pool. The food was fantastic. We also went to the top of the ship. For the inside passage. It was Amazing!
This is seriously the best timing for a show ever, last week I checked out a stack of library books on Alaska cruises and I’m planning for next year or 2024.
Ketchikan, The Bearing Sea Crab Fisherman's Tour is a must do. Rated as the #1 Excursion in Alaska, Ketchikan is the only place in the world where you can go out on an actual "Deadliest Catch" fishing vessel and learn about the Bearing Sea Crab Fishing first hand.
Yes, we pay more for Disney but the quality of service is much better. You can buy a Cadillac or a Chevy. They both get you where you need to go. You can buy a pound of hamburger or a pound of filet mignon. They are both meat and both weigh a pound but you pay more for the filet mignon because of the better quality. Disney gives you the quality you will love and deserve.
So he has to sail on the newest ship to have a good experience? That’s interesting. The Magic and Wonder are nearly a quarter century old. RC should be comparable with their older ships too. RC can’t boast it they need their newest ship to compare with Disney’s oldest.
@@mindyschocolate no it is just he is lying when says the ships are old in Alaska! He obviously has no clue about what he is talking about! Disney ships don’t hold a candle to anything Royal has. He might get more business if he would not run down every other cruise line. It is very clear who has better cruise business. Disney has what 5 ships and Royal 20 that are booked all the time! I think we have a winner!
Our Alaska cruise on NCL was actually on one of their newest vessels -- the Encore. The service and on-board experience was excellent, and the enclosed observation deck was great for glacier viewing. On the other hand, for some obscure reasons, they dock well away from the port attractions.
I did the same cruise last year and overall I agree, the food and entertainment were great. I've heard there were some cuts to things this year, but the food is still on par or better than Disney.
Juneau and Skagway, rent a car and go explore (best value), so much to see, well worth it! In Juneau, also try Forbidden Peak Brewery (views of Auke Lake). In Ketchican, take a walk to the totem pole museum. You can independently book seaplane flights to various sites or if it's the right time of the year, see the bears in Anan Creek!
I actually went on an Alaskan cruise for my honeymoon. Fell in love with the state and Juno. Thought it was too expensive to ever live Long story short about 4 years later I ended up moving there and now I live in the interior of the state.
Many West Coast cruise ports require passage under historic bridges that have a fairly low clearance. NCL had the foresight to make it so their new ships can barely squeeze under. RCI did not. The Oasis Class simply cannot pass under the Coronado Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, or the Lions Gate Bridge safely. Thankfully for Disney none of their ships are huge. So this isn't a problem for them.
Leaving for Vancouver 7/31 to set sail 8/1. We are going to Icy Straight instead of Skagway. My last time I sailed on the Wonder going to Alaska was 8/2019. We have to test 48 hours before, so I am testing before I fly out. Cross your fingers I test negative.
We did two insides staterooms, which was still significantly cheaper than one balcony. I took my three sons (all over 6'), so the space was nice. We loved it and didn't feel like we were missing out. I would do an inside again to be able to afford it. This summer's prices are a good deal if anyone can take advantage of them. The verandah is terrific (no pun intended), but it is still worth it if the budget only supports an inside.
With all due respect, Royal Caribbean's Quantum class ships are in Alaska and Norwegian's newest ships, the Encore and the Bliss are also in Alaska. They also run some of their older ships up there at a lower price.
@@ericmanes5154 Pete brought up Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise lines in alaska. If you only want a Disney discussion you should tell Pete not to bring up other Cruise lines.
@@aimeerogers4542 he only briefly mentioned them. He’s not looking at giving a full run down on each ship for other cruise lines. He mentioned them so people can pull up videos and do their own research. He also said his experiences and opinions were his own. He clearly said he prefers Disney based on the ships he was on with the other cruise lines. Nothing wrong with that. Some people will only sail with one cruise line. That’s fine too, but this is a Disney affiliated channel. Of course it’s all about Disney.
Pete is apparently unaware that, while Royal Caribbean DOES sail the older, smaller Radiance and Brilliance of the Seas from Vancouver….they ALSO sail the Quantum and Ovation of the Seas (second largest class for RCCL and all from 2016) to Alaska from Seattle
We just got back from July 11-18 alaska ; so much fun. Tips : tons of people got covid on the trip Propeller problems : they cancelled Ketchikan port We were midship but the people in the aft couldn’t sleep well because of the motor Other than that , so much fun. Great advice , beautiful weather and scenery, shows , they have free Dramamine at the medical center
Let me know if u have any specific questions (Disney offered us 20% off for our next cruise ) not that great considering we didn’t do Ketchikan and the excursions Involved
@@acatismansbestfriend5719 Same happened on our July Alaska sailing. No more testing AT the port except kids who aren’t eligible for vaccination yet. Otherwise testing is now at home up to 48 hours before. Great because you know before you leave home that you are approved to sail. Problematic because it means people are inevitable exposed during travel.
Please do an Alaskan content cruise!!! We are strongly considering an Alaskan cruise 2023 more likely 2024 which we would obviously book thru Dreams. Would really like to see what excursions were worth doing thru Disney and what you found on your own. The cost of excursions add up fast so we’d love to see your recommendations!
We just did July 4-11 DCL Alaska. The prices started to go down for the mid-July sailings. First two weeks more and second two weeks less. Just over $5,000 for an inside and over $11,000 for verandah for 2 people per room when we booked last year. And agree completely on it being more challenging and costly to sail out of Vancouver. That added a fair amount of complexity between passports, customs, ArriveCAN, and constantly changing testing requirements on both sides of the border.
Definitely doing an Alaskan cruise for hubby’s 60th birthday although we will have to either celebrate late or early since his birthday is in January, lol! I have 4 years to plan and save (since will be an EPIC trip)! Does DU book Princess cruises? I have heard Princess and Holland America are pretty good cruises for Alaska but I certainly won’t rule out DCL. Our DU agent was fantastic in getting us on the Wish this September.
Looking at DCL site the Alaska cruises aren't really selling as well as other years. People are watching their dollars with this economy. They probably would sell more if they came down on price. Not like it is the Fantasy or Dream class. lol
We were on the first sailing with RCCI in 2 years and I cannot say enough that THEY WERE NOT READY! It's like they have never done this before. Everything was so unorganized. Staff had no idea what they were doing, entertainment was not ready so they just hired crappy contract entertainment. Everyone was so disappointed. Even as a RCCI diamond member there was nothing that made us feel appreciated. After 6 months I got a reply back from RCCI in response to the emails I sent which was just a pre written script. Nothing to compensate all the shortcomings. Then RCCI canceled Australia / New Zeeland 2023 cruise because it was chartered out. RCCI offered a whopping $50 onboard cruise credit to rebook another cruise. LOL! DCL 4 Life!
Just recently got off the Wonder. Felt like a broken down ship and showing its age. Annoying to miss the port but that is life. You say other lines are sailing older ships to Alaska. Not all. Went on Princess newest ship end of May to Alaska also. Heads and tails better than the Wonder. Wish I had used my DCL credit on the Wish instead. Oh and we all came down with Covid. (Though that can happen with any ship). Agree with Craig save the difference and pick different line. At least until Wonder goes into a desperate needed dry dock. Trying to sleep through the motor problems...ughhh
Yeah Pete is pretty out of touch with other cruise lines and Alaska, they are definitely using new ships now, and with NCL ships and there observation areas, he definitely needs to revisit other lines now that they are doing newer ships 🤷🏽♀️
Sorry been to Alaska on other lines. Do it and do it fast because DCL is drastically overpriced going to Alaska. Royal has both the Quantum and Ovation going to Alaska. NCL has the Encore going to Alaska. Princess has Discovery going to Alaska. These ships blow away any ship other than the Wish.
Oh and for the cost you likely can get a suite on some other lines. Or save the money for excursions. Or just get by cheaper and replace your Caribbean cruising with Alaska. Quantum and Ovation had both family and adult only indoor pools. Which you are unlikely to touch the pool on Disney in Alaska.
We had DCL Alaska booked 2020, cancelled. Booked 2021, cancelled. Booked 2022 - we had to pull out with the Canadian/cruise protocols. Our children have a sensitivity that make them a bad candidate for the shot. DCL’s policy was we can take a long walk on a short pier…so no. We won’t be booking Alaska and putting our poor Dreams agent through that again.
Glacier National Park is in Montana and Glacier Bay National Park is in Alaska. I did the Disney cruise in Alaska 9-10 times in summer of 2011 working for the National Forest Service. Glacier Bay is definitely worthwhile but for cruise ship travel it is really only viewed as you travel the fjords on the cruise ship, so it is essentially just viewing the tidewater glaciers from the ship. When I did the Disney Cruise back in 2011 they went into a different fjord nearer to Ketchikan to do glacier viewing, which is when that excursion in the tender boat they mentioned would have taken place. :)
Wife and I will be sailing this Sep to Alaska on the Wonder. What are the current Covid restrictions flying to Vancouver and before cruise embarkation?
I’m here to say, please send Craig and crew to Alaska! I would love the Dis content. I was just watching some other vlogs about a Disney AK cruise and it was lacking the humor of Craig and Ryno.

Celebrity was amazing to Alaska. food was exceptional and service was also.
We sailed with Celebrity and it was amazing. I will definitely sail with them again.
We went on Ovation of the Seas (Quantum class) to Alaska in August 2019. It launched in 2016 and was very nice. Just wanted to share.
