You're doing an awesome job again bro 👏! I can't get tired of watching your videos about Ethiopia! You know everything pretty much about our beloved ancient Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and I appreciate for your authentic real videos! Just curious by the way, are you there in Ethiopia today March 23rd, 2023? Greetings all from your proud Ethiopian 🇪🇹 brother in Minnesota, USA 🇺🇸
“Don’t just show the negatives “ Well said …. Thank you for this brother. People show only the bad sides of Africa, not the goods. Every country has good and bad sides …. Enjoy
thank you bro you are introducing Ethiopia very well and I recommend you to go to Diredawa and Harer they are close to each other they are cities that found in the eastern part of Ethiopia
No, it's not. It's full of tribalism and ethiopia is on its to becoming a failed country. Young people are jobless and no skills. A city that is becoming overpopulated and bad traffic infrastructure.
8:46 why only have 2 ( the middle is ? ) car train: that is why its overcrowded. HONESTLY i dont think the people who are in charge of METRO TRANSIT is aware of this issue. The train need double the length
Tnx for all ur videos its been like 14 years since i left addis n more than 20 years for my mom n with ur video we feel like we didnt ms that much❤❤❤❤❤some ppl r sauer faces😂😂
I’m a coffee lover too I can’t wait to drink it. I left Addis when I was 17 wasn’t a coffee driver then but now after living in the us for decades I’m a Starbucks addic so I can’t wait to test it in Addis 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great vlog. I think it would be great if Addis Ababa locals spoke their language and translate using English subtitles. Because it feels they've a lot to say and we would like to hear from them. Thank you
thats funny..i know that exact unpaved road you first walked out of on this vlog...you staying at mellat apts or the pension next door? We just left mellat (and addis) just recently.
@Myer: wow - nice. Thanks a lot. "Mesqel" - literally 'the cross' - is an eastern orthodox churches' festival that commemorates 'the finding of the true [christian] cross' by a Roman empress named Helena in the fourth century A.D. (aka in 500s A.D.). The lighting of a huge bonfire at Mesqel square/festival is meant to reproduce the candle-light that Empress Helena of Rome had ostensibly used to find the "missing but the true cross on which a Jewish man named Jesus Christ was crucified" in his hometown of Jerusalem, but by the armies of his Roman colonisers & their Jewish collaborators. Also, the square itself has had lots of not necessarily glorious history or stories of its own as you hinted in your intro. A century or so ago, the same square was a venue where the indigenous tribe of the area on which Addis is built - the Oromos - carried-out their indigenous African religious festival known as "irreecha", at the hot springs & small lake near the square. [You can visit the hot springs & even take a bath in their thermal waters. There is a hotel near the square dedicated to that pursuit - if you like]. Afte the area on which Addis sits today was conquered & colonised by the Amharic-speaking warlords who hailed from northern Ethiopia, that same spot was renamed & converted into a venue were a Judeo-Christian religious festival called "Mesqel" began to be celebrated (about 140 years-ago). In the meantime, the original indigenous African religious festival (Oromos') was totally banned by the Christian & Amharic-speaking rulers of Ethiopia till another bloody regime change in 1991 sort of allowed the Oromos to resume celebrating their ancient African religious festival near 'Mesqel Square' - albeit on a small scale & in a much-distorted format as the same was forgotten due to the long ban. Before that, the same square was also renamed as "Abiot Adebabay" [=Revolution Square] since when a nominally socialist/communist military junta called DERG deposed the last & ethnic Amhara emperor named Haile Selassie in 1974. [The Ras Tefarian cult was named after Ras Tafari aka Emperor Haile Selassie. Ras Tafari was his real name & Haile Selassie his royal name. NOTE: Nearly ALL of the emperors of Ethiopia were Amharic-speakers &/or members of the Amhara tribe plus members of the Orthodox church]. Since 1991, the old name - Mesqel Square - was informally restored when the DERG junta was violently removed by an all Orthodox christian rebel fighters who hailed from the province of Tigray aka the most northerly province of Ethiopia (next to Eritrea) & the "birth-place of the Ethiopian Orthodox church". Today, there is a strong underlining dispute over the name of the square plus on the issue of 'who exactly owns the land on which the mostly Amharic-speaking people of Addis Ababa live? .. the indigenous Oromos who still live all around the city & beyond OR the Amharic-speaking settlers that dominate Addis Ababa'. So, don't be surprised if you hear about another revolt or an inter-ethnic fighting around this square & the city of Addis Ababa in the future. Thanks again & all the best.
I don't now why security forces are being rude on tourists trying to get money by telling them it's not allowed to film. As Ethiopian 🇪🇹 I can tell you that it's allowed to film in public places. I think when you get near security guards just put the camera away for a second. Great video 👍
Meskel square is huge and so beautiful and the train was pretty packed.I would use taxis. Hope somebody can answer How much taxis costs in addis? Hows the climate of addis? What is the crime situation? Do they observe Ramadan in addis? Is it easy to get halal foods in addis? How much english is spoken there?
its crazy even the police not allowing you to record in public space! i was born and raised in Ethiopia and haven't been back in a while but this seems like after the war the public are a bit paranoid about foreigners recording them and stuff which should not be encouraged at all. Ethiopia is really the best place to visit despite to current climate and hopeful things will get back to normal soon in God's will
Bro u are good 👍🏿, But when u recording the video! The guy sitting near the banana asks you to buy some banana 😅😅😅 . And he said don't record us for free.
That coffee and sambusa looks good! The waitresses should learn how to serve and take orders with smile and good spirit. If they don't speak English they can politely say "no English sorry "...Don't stand with a folded hand or try to walk away and lean against the table...training training simple training that brings more tips!😅
Im ethiopian, and i dont even like many things, for example. Tribalism in ethiopia is shameful, and people are so backward that they fear cameras as if its a gun. You're discriminated against based on your ID card and what region you come from. Many young people are jobless and lack skills for the modern world and have been left behind. The level of poverty is shocking and sad. Ethiopia is the only country that practices ethnic federalism, which will destroy the country. Ethiopians don't understand democracy and think as tribes only. The capital addis is becoming a cesspit of corruption, and infrastructure is lacking. So this and many more. Do you want me to go on?
Hello, Merkel is one of the most popular holiday in the Ethiopia Orthodox church. Meskel means The finding of the true cross of Jesus Christian. Thank you brother.
I would like to say sorry to you on behalf of the rude people you are facing every day, I know most people don't understand how is that important to take care of tourists in the country, I saw even a police officer shouting at you, I feel bad for you. Don't mind such rude people, I wish you the best and most enjoyable spend time in Ethiopia
Truthfully, during my visit, I found most Ethiopians to be cold, proud and quite unfriendly. They also stare a great deal. I have no idea why this is the case.
Now matter how Ethiopia get developed, they will never outgrow their paranoid of making rules in regards to your individual freedom in public. That young police man was wrong of him asking you to stop filming . after all the. trams are public. public means for the people
How lazy those police officers are to get up and help ; they sitting all day doing nothing--be-careful in the train no sham to get in your pockets!!! The police officer might show try to show you their power be careful they none sense
Ethiopia is on its way to becoming a failed country. Ethnic federalism and huge jobless youth with low education and skills have harmed the country. A country where your ethnicity is written on your ID card and can be used to discriminate.
@Beti Ye stop defending them. They said he should buy a banana for him. I feel sad for young ethiopians. They are solely lacking in skills and are jobless. This, generation is being left behind and has been poisoned with tribal politics. Ethiopia will be a failed country in the next 10 years. Corruption, tribalism, ethnic federalism, poverty, and conflicts. all these are precursors for a rapid decline. Ethiopia is a powder keg waiting to explode.
